2.3 on the Blizzard Background Downloader
The first official installment of patch 2.3 is now available to the Blizzard Background Downloader. While it may still be several weeks until the patch is activated on the live realms, this is nonetheless a sign of hope for many players who have been eagerly anticipating the new content. I have no doubt that the patch release date guessing game will come up at least once in guild chat while I'm online tonight. (I might even be the instigator.)Many people I've grouped with in game have complained of extra latency while the Downloader is running. If you start to notice this problem while playing tonight, you can always alt-tab out and suspend the download. Also, you can always access the options for the Downloader through the WoW Launcher which, in turn, can be enabled/disabled from your login screen. Additionally, if you'd like to start downloading without starting up WoW, you can use the Background Downloader icon in the WoW folder on your hard drive. For further questions, be sure to check out the Blizzard support page for more help on the subject.

Is the patch still live on the PTR? I thought there was traditionally a 2-week windows between the PTR coming down and the patch going live.

This is also a sign of horror to the elemental shaman community.
If their are elemental changes as Eyonix had posted they were "looking into it", elemental shaman will not have the chance to look them over on the PTR and bring up any issues like they did this time.
For example, the issue that was found by elemental shaman on the PTR that proved the "increase in DPS" promised was actually a DPS nerf.
Anyway, we'll see what happens. If the 2.3 elemental changes go through as is, expect an uproar.

I'm stuck at 5% right now. The servers must be jammed.
This is definitely great news. I don't think it'll be weeks. More like days till its live.

VERY slow download, after about a half hour I'm only at 1% (3 mb of 225). I may not experience patchy goodness until tomorrow...:(

Either Nov. 20th or the 11th of December.
There is a week or so of PTR being gone before the patch goes live and plus there are so many changes still being made that it would be a joke to bring it out any earlier.
Rowan Nov 1st 2007 8:19PM
Well I got to 45% in about a minute! :D
but alas its now stuck on it ;'(

I have more trouble with lag when I alt tab than I do when I just let it run.
Silvertip Nov 1st 2007 9:30PM
Topped off at 91% - 204 MB

The PTR actually goes down the weekend before the patch, usually.

I predict November 13th or 20th.

probably just a partial as the other large patches have always been, biggest part this week, middle part next week, then the final activation bit on patch day, so yeah end of the month sounds about right.... but thats just a guess:P

Blue posts on the forums have said we will get 2 weeks notice before season 3, so we know we have that long to wait unless they don't enable it this patch.
Guernia Nov 2nd 2007 1:33AM
87% right now.
This is just the "fixed content" download. So, all the Zul'Aman stuff, probably models, textures and whatnot for guild banks etc. All the changeable stuff, like the new Discipline talent they may or may not tweak further, any Shaman changes and anything else will most likely come through is a secondary patch to be downloaded on Patch Tuesday.
So expect more PTR builds before the patch goes live.

yall should stop wasting your lives
Grotesk Nov 2nd 2007 8:38AM
This could also be the first part of more patches. Like stated in "blue posts". The patch day may not be the start of season 3. This is probably very well the fixed content as stated above.
