New noncombatty goodness
If you have been keeping up with the latest patch news (and who hasn't?), then I'm sure you've noticed that despite some grievances, everyone has something that they are greatly anticipating. If you happen to be a fan of pets of the non-combat variety, then 2.3 is turning out to be the patch for you!Hot on the heels of the latest seasonal pets, the elusive Wolpertinger and the Sinister Squashling, those who obtain exalted status with Sporeggar will be able to purchase the Tiny Spore Bat for the reasonable fee of 30 glowcaps. While Elizabeth did mention the little tike briefly in a recent update on the patch notes, I wanted to give him his own spotlight. As if these two weren't enough, there's also Mojo, the adorable blue frog who is not afraid to show you some love.
If you collected the Tiny Crimson Whelpling, Dark Whelpling, and Tiny Emerald Whelpling, then you'll love the new Azure Whelpling! Based on the original whelpling models, this new pet has a bluer outlook on life. If you want to snag one for yourself, you'll have to hit up Azshara after the patch drops. Park yourself in amongst a group of level 51+ elite Blue Dragonspawns, and prepare to farm for the long haul, as there is no current data regarding this little guy's drop rate.
Whether you enjoy non-combat pets or not, one thing is for sure; Breanni is absolutely right. Azshara might actually get busy! In much the same way that Mr. Pinchy has helped to revitalize fishing, maybe this whelpling will add a little pizazz to the zone - or at least kick its tourism scene up a notch.
Will you be spotted in Azshara post-patch farming 'til you drop? If so, will he be your new pal, another notch in your belt, or a nice addition to your AH-for-mount fund?

I have wanted a blue whelpling ever since I saw the icy blue colored ones in winterspring! I will be there the day 2.3 hits.

It'll most likely be a .1% drop rate like the others. Yargh.
I was lucky enough to actually get the Dark Whelpling while farming for dragonscales one day in the Badlands. I levelled to 60 with Skinning/LW, but dropped both for Eng/Enchant because LW used to be worthless at max level. Then I dropped Enchanting to get Mining, THEN dropped Eng for Mining, THEN I temporarily dropped mining to get Skinning to help farm Silithid skins to help gear up my guild for AQ40, and while levelling Skinning the second time, I happened to find myself in the Badlands, skinning whelplings, and there one dropped.
That was a long story, wasn't it?
Here's a shorter one: there are two items I still want but can't find. A Hyacinth Macaw (the very pretty blue parrot) and an Orb of Deception. But I do have a Green-Wing Macaw and Miniwing, which are arguably just as cool. But I still want me a bluey!

Of course the droprate will be .1%, or lower. The longer Blizz can keep our asses farming for one to drop, the more money they'll make. ^^

I know I'll be farming some Sporregar rep sometime soon. The sporebat pet is awesome, and those little sporeling guys are so cute: how can I not help them!

Still farming for the other whelps. :-( Hopefully I'll have 'em by the time the next patch comes out -- I love non-combat pets, so I'm happy to see Blizzard add a few more! Huzzah!
Everyone seems excited about the Sporebat, but I'm gonna be one of the people farming for the Azure. :)

I still vote for a Skunk pet for my Rogue Stinky

The cave in southern Zangarmarsh is a good spot to farm Sporeggar rep. It's filled with easy to kill mobs with a good respawn rate that give 15 rep each as long as you're level 69 or lower. If you have a gathering profession, there's a few mineral spawns and a bunch of ghost mushrooms to pick. Also, if you're on a PvP server, this spot doesn't see much gank action since it's fairly secluded.

I love the Sporeggar! While I'm usually all about the pets, I think I'm more excited about the existing mushroom tabard. :)

Just wanted to say that the Azure Whelpling will drop from other than just the blue dragonspawns. I got one from a Draconic Mageweaver (a blue dragonkin) in Azshara last night about 12:45 a.m. on the Tanaris server. I farmed out there for about 6 hours straight before it dropped, but wouldn't have been upset if I didn't get it: there were so many people out there farming that most of them weren't skinning so I also got a TON of leather/hide. After the whelpling dropped, I was torn on whether to keep it or sell, so I opted to put it in the AH for a super-high 500g to see what would happen and it sold before I got up for work at 6:00 a.m. :)
Of course I took screenshots of the drop, but not the actual whelpling as it's bind on use.
