WoW Moviewatch: Moonkin vs. Prince

This is hardly the only Moonkin tank (Panzerkin?) video you'll find on YouTube, but this video of a Moonkin tanking Prince Malchezaar strikes me as one of the best done, complete with strategy tips. As a healer, however, I have to wonder about this strategy -- with sufficient gear (i.e.: outgearing the content), good enough healing, and a raid group disciplined enough to manage their aggro, you could probably get by any class tanking. But that doesn't mean any class ought to tank. What do you all think: is a Panzerkin a viable way to tank, or is it just for novelty value?

That video (Vengeance 3) is even more impressive if you watch it till the end. He's tanking not only Prince but Gruul too!

Um, one question, what "surviavl cooldowns" do moonkin actually have? I know barkskin and trinkets but... what else?

Let's throw him in something he doesn't have a wide gear gap on...ya its cool that people can use a caster dps spec to tank...I bet shadow priest wouldn't be out of the question either. This is no more revolutionary than people 3 manning Ony at 60 with full t3 and BC talents. Ya its pretty cool but nothing more than a novelty. Next video, boomkin tanking najentus...then I'll be impressed.

@2: I wouldn't call S2 arena gear vs. Gruul a wide gear gap, but his healers certainly were not running around in blues either ;-)

@5... assuming you meant @3, ya S2 gear is better ilvl than t5 and the resilience itemization isn't wasted but needed because he's only at 350 d.
So I guess you can make the argument that it isn't a wide item gap because its subjective but you are comparing top SSC/TK equivalent gear to beginning level raiding.

i don't think any class can effectively tank, the moonkin form gains the same armor bonus that bear form does, which makes this do-able. Any cloth wearers or regular leather wearers would have a tough if not impossible time doing this

you need health, armor, and mitigation to tank, any class/spec that can get their stats in these three categories can do it.
So its pretty limited to pallies druids (including boomkins), warriors, and rogues. Rogues are a stretch, but ive had a rogue MT heroic SP before fine. All other classes are pretty much out of it, because the itemization just isnt there. Hunteres and Shamans have Armor and Health, but they dont have mitigation,making them bad tanks. And then clothies dont have the armor at all to do it, just because there is no itemization. Yes maybe a frost mage could kite some bosses, but get to close and *bam* hes dead, even with alot of health.

So true - I know for a fact that Prince can 2 hit my warlock and she has 11k hp raid buffed.

Lithanial was grouped with Aztecs for Gruul iirc, who are coming to the end of their T5 raiding and about to move on to Hyjal / BT, so when Gruul was done (and maybe Prince?) the rest of the raid would have been in, I guess, mostly T4 with some T5 bits.

Looks fun (not for the healers). But a boomkin in feral tank gear has tons of armor too. Once thing I'm curious about, the undead warrior(?) duel weilding Sun Eater and something?
