OneBag, Autobar, Omen and FuBar are my top addons. I absolutely can't deal without the first two, and fubar has so many functions I rely on that I wouldn't be sure what I'm missing till it goes away (auto repair for one).
I was ushered kicking and screaming years ago into addons. I had huge problems with addons in other games and didn't like the idea of screwing something up by using one with WoW. But like you point out in the article, just go in and disable/delete it and it's gone.
I made it to 60 without addons playing a holy priest. My first experience was in the middle of Molten Core when the group made me download CTMod. It screwed -everything- up on my screen and I was totally scarred for life, immediately disabling it and going off to cry in the corner. Later my guild convinced me to try other addons, I don't quite remember which ones I began with, but I started to crave more. Now I am probably too dependent on too many, but such is life.
