The end of the (patch) day
It's the end of the day (or nearly there) and, if you've logged on at all, you've patched WoW up to the latest version. Oftentimes, patch days are fraught with server instability and all sorts of other issues in game. On top of those problems, UI mods get thrown out of whack and usually must be updated in order to avoid screens filled with annoying error messages.Personally, this patch day was one of the smoothest I can recall in recent memory. Once the servers came back up, I was able to log on right away with no queue and no apparent latency. As the afternoon wore on into evening, there were a few rough patches of lag, but they smoothed out after a little while, never to return. My most important mods were already updated and I can live without the rest for a couple of days. I purposefully try to avoid a reliance on UI mods, which is always helpful on patch days, so I'm not sure that my experience was shared by many other WoW players. Even so, my guildmates who rely on mods more than I do also seemed pretty happy with the transition to the new patch, so hopefully things went well for the majority of WoW fans. How did the patch treat you today? Did you bother logging on at all? If you did, have you had a good experience thus far?

Only mods I had problems with were CT_Mailmod (because I forgot to just disable it, as it hadn't been updated yet, at that point in time) and Gatherer. I imagine it will be a few days, or longer, before we see a Gatherer update. With all the new tracking stuff I imagine it's going to need a nice chunk of code rewriting.

Being Oceanic I'm still at work, I'll find out in a few hours.
I read in the forums that Ghostlands and Silvermoon flight Paths now connect to wider Azeroth with a loading screen. I can't see this in the patch notes. Is it true?

Oh my god all my addons just exploded, I got an Error Message in the middle of banishing demons, hecka large dialog box:
"Addon 071xa3.1231 has not been working for several minutes and is slowing down World of Warcraft. If you do not shut it off the game will crash."
And 2 options, Disable and Ignore.

Patch day has gone very smoothly for me also. I am happy with a lot of stuff. It is a great patch!

AceUpdater for the win! Some of my stuff is "out of date" still--I'm looking at you Auctioneer--but the only fix I had to make was a last minute update to Cartographer.
Mailmod was the last CT mod I was using, so that whole folder hit the Trash bin this morning.

Well Gul'down was down for about 4 hours this afternoon, the BC (outlands and silvermoon) zones at least.

Cenarius' instance servers just took a dump.
First it was a bugged Nejius now it looks like we have to reclear trash to Supremus :(
BTW, Shaman were able to get full T6 resto set w/o tokens :P

this is pretty much the worst patch ever.
all my spells now have my latency attached to them before they even start. So instants take 2 full seconds to spit out. They removed the real lag compensation for some new absolutely craptacular system meant to stop people from using /stopcasting macros FOR NO REASON AT ALL.
I can't play as a mage at all right now. It's really pathetic.
AV is completely busted on my group too, with 300+ms lag and absurdly nerfed honor gains if you don't win. It's pointless to even try anymore I guess.
I'm trying real hard to like anything about this patch, but I sure don't like much right now.
Bobby Hansen Nov 14th 2007 12:49AM
AV was very tough here - I kept having teams sitting at Drek, with only Galv and one or two towers down, waiting for a tank. Tanks, being generally more knowlegable I find, knew that single-pulling is not possible any more, so these people sat around like morons waiting for something that wasn't going to happen. Meanwhile, the Horde had 5 people (including Hunters and warlocks) at every tower they capped.
I'm not thrilled, but hopefully, Alliance will pull it together on Ruin sooner rather then later.

AV is definitely a completely different game now, all the games I've played have been a straight turtle at SH GY - we didn't make it anywhere near a general - but even so it's quite fun to walk out of the BG with over 400 000 healing done lol.
Regarding the changes to latency/gcd/spellcasts however for myself at a ping of around 400-500ms I have experienced nothing but good things [only tested on mage, priest, paladin, and rogue so far].
So far my only complaint is the lag that the battlegrounds are suffering, but I'm sure once the novelty wears off it'll get better :)
Kevin Nov 14th 2007 1:31AM
My only complaint is what we knew was going to happen. Poorly geared people thinking they can run Heroics. Its going to be very, VERY hard to get a good Heroic PUG from now on.

Bah, speak for yourself. Smolderthorn was a mess. World servers up and down. Instance servers up and down. I barely got my dalies done today. Close to the worst patch ever.
onyx.ceilican Nov 14th 2007 8:02AM
Smolderthorn went offline 3 times last night. The instance servers kept crashing and eiter lagging people out inside or booting them out. Portals from Shatt were frozen and wouldn't work.
But through it all I was able to farm my Azure Whelpling... so I was still VERY happy.
Michael Nov 14th 2007 10:31AM
I suppose if you call World Server going down about every hour tonight; yeah, pretty smooth. :S
Nijle Nov 14th 2007 8:44AM
So far i'm loving being able to see talent builds on players, its really fantastic to not have to pull up armory and look at possibly outdated stuff when trying to find a warrior who is really prot. or a pally who is really holy!!
Now we know, and knowing is half the battle.
James Nov 14th 2007 9:18AM
AV was so laggy you couldn't play. Instant lock dots took around 4 seconds to go off. It was a nightmare.
Golgothen Nov 14th 2007 9:44AM
Umm..yeah, last night sucked. Got the Heroic Daily for Ramparts and right at the first boss, the server crashed...fine no big deal. Log back on, finally get back into the instance and hotbars weren't working and no spells would launch. Server crashes again, this time with the lovely "Instance Server" error message that spits me back to the character screen. Suffice to say, we did not get the daily or anything else done. Bad Blizz, BAD!

My farmer's broom got nerfed back to its boring pre-2.2 look :< /cry /cry /cry
(But lots of other stuff to like :>)
Nannou Nov 14th 2007 10:25AM
Patch day sucked for me, as I saw several warrior guild mates quit warcraft forever due to being totally fucking nerfed. I think this is it, the last time fury warriors are gonna stand for it.
Sylythn Nov 14th 2007 10:48AM
Very smooth night - DBM was causing trouble, but I hear there's an update already. And Cartographer is a little glitchy, but other than that I had no mod issues at all.
The only really sucky thing was that just before midnight on Elune...right as we were doing the Chess Event (cleared everything except Prince and Netherspite in about 2.5 hrs!) the Instance servers crashed - we blame ZA of course. :)
