Design: Chaotic Skyfire Diamond
One of the most sought-after items in the latest patch is undoubtedly the design for the new meta gem, the Chaotic Skyfire Diamond. On my server, the Coilskar Sirens who drop the item in question have been camped incessantly since players were able to log into the game yesterday afternoon. This is understandable, since the gem is now the best of its type for most raiding DPS casters and is in high demand.Unfortunately the recipe may be bugged. Most patterns that drop off of specific creatures are bind-on-pickup and can only be farmed by those characters that actually have the profession required to learn the recipe. For instance, the pattern for Ragesteel Shoulders can only be looted by blacksmiths. Recipes that can be looted by any character tend to be world drops and do not bind-on-pickup. The plans for the Eternium Runed Blade is an example of this type of item. On the other hand, the design for the Chaotic Skyfire Diamond lives up to its name and doesn't follow the trends already set in WoW. It is not bind-on-pickup, but it drops from specific creatures and only seems to be appearing for jewelcrafters, at least according to the data and comments on Wowhead.
What have your experiences with this pattern been like? I wasn't able to farm it up on any of my characters aside from my jewelcrafter, even after spending quite awhile killing Sirens. Did you experience something similar?

This took me about 2 hours to farm, but the requirements for the Meta are terrible. Exactly two blue gems. That's ridiculous, I have multiple sets of gear, all of which use more then two blue gems.

Took me about 2 hours to farm it as well, and I put it straight on the AH too see what idiot would buy it. With its requirements (exactly two blue gems) and its odd combination of 12 spell crit and 3% extra crit damage (ie. not spell) making it only usefull for some shammies and Pali's and as you can understand I am not hopefull but you can never tell.
Fortunately I got alot of good greens and another blue for my time.

err @2... its spell crit damage according to bliz and PTR testing... they just couldn't fit it all there.

After reading this article I decided to farm for it. I got it after killing 5 of the Sirens! I was happy; but the requirements are so terrible I doubt it will be sought after.
But I am a JC tho, just another recipe to have for free.

I am confused.. it having less requirements to work is a bad thing? If as the article says, this is good for caster DPS, and it has less requirements, meaning you can put whatever you want in your other gem slots, wouldnt that be better not worse?

oh, nm, I missed the exactly

I went to coilfang yesterday to get the recipe and at the same time helping a friend to get som cobrascales.
It droped after about 30-45 min. of killing.
I was the only one that could loot it (friend was not JC) but I did not notice if the recipe was BoP.
Also got a blue cooking recipe from the cooking quest, so it was a nice patch day for me :-)

I've looted two of these so far. Took about 50 or so kill each time (less than an hour). There were usually only 1-2 other people there so I could find a Siren constantly. I'm a jewelcrafter, but sold my 1st one on the AH for 600g since it wasnt BoP. I went out and picked up a second today and guess I should sell it again while it's 'hot'.

@5: Just because it requires "only" 2 blues, doesn't make it have "less" requirements! The problem is that you can have no less and NO MORE than 2 blues! But Wowhead doesn't clear this up, so we'll have to trust #2 for what he says...

If I was a destro warlock, I'd quite happily replace some blue gems so that I could get the bonus from this, since the gems most casters (especially destro warlocks) depend on is the +hit, +spell damage and +spell crit - and they all happen to be orange/red/yellow.
All you'd need to do is put in 2 token +6 sta +5 spell damage nightseyes and you're sorted!

Do WoW Insider posters actually PLAY WoW?
Almost every JC dropped recipe is BoE. In fact, there's next to no BoP ones that are drops. The ones that are are in Black Temple, or for stuff like rings/trinkets.
I mean geez people. Take a look at the list of dropped blue gem patterns, they're all BoE:

Got mine after killing around 20 naga, was only one other player there this morning.
Dipstick Nov 15th 2007 6:43AM
@11
Do/can you actually read anything? It's pretty clear that the point made is not that it is BoP, but that it's BoE for Jewelcrafters.
i.e. only Jewelcrafters seem to be able to get the drop.
It makes me laugh when I see comments like yours :)

I got mine after about 20 kills, which is pretty nice. I encountered a fellow guildie there when I got there, and he didn't get his for at least another hour.
The fact that it has such a weird requirement (only 2 blue gems allowed) is a bummer, but then again, there aren't many blue gems that you'd want to use in your DPS set anyway.
There are purple gems that'll give you spell damage, and green ones that'll give you crit, but it'll be pretty easy to avoid those if you need to.
Still, if I need to switch out a piece of gear for a piece or two of mana-regen gear, those are loaded with blue gems, so I guess I'll have to switch out whichever helm I'm wearing first.
Not that I have much of a problem with helms, since there are only 2 or 3 that are better than the Shamanistic Helm of Second Site for elemental spec.

Oops, my bad. Thats what I get for posting in the early morning.

Bronzebeard US.
8 minutes, Probably 15 mobs (I was amazed).
I put a cut stone up on the AH for 175. There was 1 other stone up for 180ish and the recipe up there for 1000g
I Shoulda' sold the recipe :-\

The gem cut patterns may not be BoE, but my Engineer/Miner Paladin recently got the pattern for the Citrine Pendant of Golden Healing while soloing. It is a little annoying that I've got a BoP pattern world drop in the middle of Arathi Highlands that I have absolutely no use for. I've banked it, as I might go Eng/JC whenever I have more money than I know what to do with.
Still. BoP patterns as world drops? No thanks.

I had the bad luck of having the Relentless Earthstorm Diamond pattern on my bank alt and in this last patch it turned from BoE to BoP...
D'oh
(never saw that on the patch notes either)

Took me about 30 min to farm the design. Made up for the 5 days I had to kill Sunfury Bowmen for the Khorium Scope schematic on my engineer...
blitzkrieg999 Nov 15th 2007 4:48PM
I got my first within a dozen kills, and immediately put it on AH. Got 1000g gold for it, getting me that much closer to an epic flier for my alt. Second drop was within 2 hours, used that one for myself. As of this morning there were 2 more designs on Kilrogg's AH, for 775g and 800g. I can't decide if it will be worth farming for another one later on down the road to sell.
