BoE Epic throwing weapon pickpocketed
Pickpocketing is one of my favorite things about the Rogue class. It adds some nice texture and a bit of extra cash to my grinding routine, keeps me stocked in Super Healing Potions and Flash Powder, and best of all, I can easily macro it along with my opening attack (usually Cheap Shot), so it doesn't even require an additional keystroke:/cast Pick Pocket
/cast Cheap Shot
Now, according to a few different reports around the official forums, there's a new reason to pick those pockets: epics.
The BoE epic throwing weapon Spinesever was, allegedly, found in a lockbox picked from a random mob in Shadowmoon Valley. There seems to be some debate over whether it's real or not, but it is on Thottbot, and it looks believable enough. Edit: it's real. It does have rather high stats, and is probably the best throwing weapon in the game. I wonder what the skin looks like. What do you think? Is there a better throwing weapon out there? And how much do you think this is worth? People are suggesting that this is considerably over-budget; I don't know the item level formulas well enough to verify that claim -- can any of you?
[Thanks, Gonçalo]

It's on the Armory, so I would have to assume it's real:

It's legit. A rogue on maelstrom got it. I've seen it linked and what not. It's real.

Its probably just my perception, but when I open my own boxes I never seem to get anything valuable in them...just poison reagents and some flash powder.
When I open for others they almost always get at least a green...sometimes blues.

@3 Are you sure you're not thinking of lockboxes and not junk boxes?
I can't see another rogue asking you to open a junkbox that they pickpocketed.
@OP
I've certainly pp'd a few greens out of junkboxes, so I guess it is in the realm of possibility that you could get an epic out of one.
If that's true, WOW.

I wish thrown weapons were more abundant because there is a huge lack of them between levels 40 and 55.
What does everyone else think?
navalpha Nov 15th 2007 6:43PM
well there are a few new throwing weapons that blacksmiths can make, besides that, get a high stat bow/gun of the monkey/bear/what ever

does that macro you had in the body loot the stuff you pick pocket too, b4 casting the cheapshot?
sizzle Nov 15th 2007 6:57PM
If I did the calculation right this has a DAEP score of 52 and AEP of 48 putting it higher then Vengeful Gladiator's War Edge, and Arcanite Steam-Pistol by +9 Agility Equivalence Points.
How much is this going to sell for? 3k gold?
Eliah Hecht Nov 15th 2007 7:02PM
jr: It does if you have autoloot turned on (and why wouldn't you?).
Dan Nov 15th 2007 7:26PM
Mug'thol-H someone was asking 2500g for it this morning.
Richard Nov 15th 2007 7:36PM
@7 no.... you need to have Auto Loot enabled.
ALL rogues should have it on, and have /cast PickPocket on all their openers... (ie Ambush, Garotte, Sap and Cheap Shot)
Occasionally it won't grab all the items you PP before you use your opener, but 9 times out of 10 it works as it's supposed to.
Grind the ogres in Nagrand... you can PP a lot of Super Healing Pots from them, and I average about 8-10 silver from each. It's a really nice way to make an extra couple gold an hour, on top of the other items (most of it is vendor trash) you PP.

Not its... it's true. It was gotten on my server, Maelstrom, and they will not stop posting it in trade channel. Once every 5 minutes, on the minute.
Athmeno Nov 16th 2007 5:02AM
I wonder if this is an oversight to be "fixed" in the upcoming server restarts?
Blorg Nov 16th 2007 5:58AM
Yep.
Turn on auto loot.
Make macros that pickpocket then do your opener.
Make a marco that saps then pickpockets too.
At the very least you'll save money on poison reagents, and it's invaluable while levelling as you can usually get enough boxes to keep your lockpicking up to your level.
I'd strongly recommend that for tricky pulls in instances and the like, you keep a non-pickpocket-macro sap on your action bar too.
Nothing worse than sneaking up to a group of nasty elites, hitting sap, and getting "pick pocket was resisted". Better hope vanish is up and you hit it fast enough!

Is it just me or has the number of junkboxes found gone up? I was on my rogue last night (taking advantage of some no-longer elite quests I couldn't solo before 2.3) and noticed a lot of junkboxes showing up. Maybe I just noticed them becaue it has been a while since I played my rogue???
Ommalt Nov 16th 2007 9:46AM
@15 I think you might be right. I was running some quests in Netherstorm last night and got 8 - 10 junkboxes. Thinking back, 2 - 3 was about my normal for those mobs.
Hank Nov 16th 2007 10:22AM
@14...solution to this...sap first, THEN pickpocket...
Eliah Hecht Nov 16th 2007 10:24AM
Hank: Unless this was changed recently, sapped mobs still have a chance to resist PP. Sucks, but that's how it is. I think.
Hank Nov 16th 2007 10:25AM
Eliah, yes, but even if they resist, your CC job is already done.
Milktub Nov 16th 2007 10:57AM
@17 -- FYI, a pickpocket can be resisted by even a sapped mob. If there's a nearby mob (such as in an instance), they will then spot you and pummel you.
I pickpocket only in instances where i'm higher level than the mobs. No sense causing a wipe for a bit of spare change.
And regarding this weapon: Holy mother of me. But I'm still unclear, was this from a Junkbox (those things that you get a ton of and have some snuff, some cash, maybe a healing pot and some poison reagents) or from a Lockbox (those things that only other classes seem to get, but that rogues open all the time)?
