Gallery: Turbo-Charged Flying Machine

Patch 2.3 injected a whole lot of new life into the game -- from unexpected class buffs to nasty jungle trolls, the latest patch from Blizzard gave a whole lot of bang for the buck. When it comes to bang, however, arguably the loudest, most spectacular one comes from the new Engineering flying mount. This whirling, sputtering thingamajig -- which Blizzard poster Drysc has called "the best flying mount in the game" had Engineers scrambling to get their Hula Girl Doll from that purportedly perfidious peddler Griftah as soon as 2.3 went live. Don't believe the hype? Check out our latest gallery to get up close and personal with the Turbo-Charged Flying Machine. Don't get too close, though. That exhaust can get really nasty.

I built mine last night and a lot of time buzzing around the Outlands. Its a blast. The only thing that will take some getting used to is the amount of exhaust... Nice effect, but possibly a tad overdone.

I love my new mount (see http://erbodie.wordpress.com/), it it really good fun to ride. But I agree that the exhaust effect is overdone, and in a world of pollution, it would have been nice for Blizzard to have a more environmentally friendly message.

The best part is the dancing hula girl on the dash. Zoom in close enough and you can see her. Classic!

I love mine as well, although it definitely strains the suspension of disbelief when I land it to tap a mining node and there are enemies nearby. Surely they are going to take notice of the noise. It's not exactly a quiet mount.

Pros: It shows I've reached the pinnacle of engineering, and am wealthy enough to afford epic flying skill. Also, it's loud and obnoxious.
Cons: It's loud and obnoxious.
I briefly swapped back to my Aether Ray yesterday for some peace and quiet. But overall, it adds a new layer of immersion. *I* built this. Plus I can relate to flying around in a machine much more so than on the back of an animal.

It says they're bind on equip, so is it possible to get an engineer to create one for me?

Oh god, the hippies even invade wowinsider. It's a fucking video game, lay off your politics for five damn minutes.

@ johnthorpe: Relax, man. The dude above was joking. And maybe clean up the language a little bit.

There's sound in this game? I haven't played with sound turned on since like 2005 ;)
Aside from the aforementioned Hula Girl on the dash, I like the clattering toolbox, the shark paint job, and the inverted propeller autorotation when the engine dies. Indeed, it's the best mount model so far!

@5 (Erbodie):
It's magic exhaust. It's actually good for the environment.
Now clean up those corpses you left lying around, polluter. You litterbugs make me sick.

Yes a engie can make it but you already know you need engie to use it. I only have the non turbo and i am short about 5k so does anybody wanna give me a loan. Also does the riding crop work with it or do we get a nitrous can or something. It would be cool to use a fel iron casing, some goblin rocket fuel and a adamantite frame.
Flann Dragonblight Nov 15th 2007 3:38PM
@Erika: yes, crops and other speed mods work with the flying machine...it's just another mount. Though nitrous would be funny, though Blizz would probably put some auto-dismount backfire into it...nothing says speed like free-falling from so high that no parachute cloak would help you. ;)

Now all we need is some type of land based eng mount.
I'm sure it would go somethin like this.
