Hunters no longer have FD Drink in 2.3: Bug fix or nerf?
There is a new uproar on the forums, this time from Hunters -- petitions, titles in all caps, threads being moderated, etc. What are they all upset about? It seems an important item was left off of the Patch 2.3 notes:- Fixed a bug in which Hunters were able to disengage from combat using Feign Death during boss encounters.
The Hunters are upset because they were not just using Feign Death to drop aggro during boss fights, they were also restoring mana by drinking.
It has been suggested that this was actually nerfed because not only could you drink during a boss fight, you could also change gear. Nethaera agrees that this functionality was not intended, but still maintains this is a bug fix and not a nerf.
Along with the standard flame posts you would expect in this thread, there are also some constructive comments with possible solutions. Nethaera has promised to pass them onto the development team, particularly these two points:
- Hunter mana efficiency needs to be increased so that they don't need to drink during boss fights.
- Hunters should be able to feed their pets after being revived during a boss fight.
The fact that this "bug" is only "fixed" for boss fights is interesting. Also, did this just go unnoticed by players on the Test Realms or was this a last minute change added after the PTRs closed down before the patch? The details do seem a bit fishy.
What do you think? Bug fix or nerf?
| It's a nerf! Where's the petition? | |
|---|---|
| It's a bug fix. Hunters shouldn't be able to kick back and relax during boss fights. | |
| Ooooh! Polls are pretty. |

I've always felt this method was cheap, so I never really used it anyways. It just felt wrong. Just use a stupid Fel Mana Potion like every other hunter with integrity.

ok let me get this completely right... does FD still drop aggro during boss fights? I don't care about being out of combat, that's what mana pots and aspect of the viper are for, I'm just concerned that FD has become useless during boss fights.

not being able to trap 2 mobs at once (albeit for a limited time) is a far bigger nerf than this.

Hunters can exit combat to and regain mana and change gear all by the press of a button? This is news to me, seems very unfair to the other classes.
fLUx Nov 15th 2007 8:47AM
I honestly hate when they remove something like this, don't care if its a bugfix or nerf, if a class has got used to something, and it brings no super amazing advantages to the hunter class, let em keep it!!
Did I here people shouting "huntrz are easy, nvr die cos you can eat 'n drink in boss fites - nrf nurf nerf!!!1!11"......no I didn't!

i find it funny that being able to FD and change gear and drink is fine in PVP and on trash but is only wrong during a boss fight. i can understand the change but why isn't it changed for all aspects of the game?
this isn't even the biggest stealth nerf in the patch for hunters. the biggest issue is no more double trapping and making a 41 talent point utterly useless.

@7 - all bosses have special measures to make sure that the group or raid has the right setup and gear to not exploit it and kill it in some unconventional way. enrage timers, debuff slots etc makes sure bosses are equal to everyone.

Mosst huntards are prolly to stupid to know they can use fel mana pots and to use them before they actually run out of mana. I guess now they will have to work within the system every other class mana using class has too.

this along with the chain trap nerf is complete bs imo. oh well at least we can get welfare epics now since our raid utility just went down the crapper. gg blizz gg

Mage's invisible works the same way, leave combat and aggro dump in everything but boss fights. In boss fights, it's just aggro dump. Levels the playing field a little, huh?

huntard QQ ftw

L O L
L2P the same game that everyone else plays.

...i hadn't heard about not being able to double trap anymore, that really is a slap in the face. Its not like it is even easy to do without readiness, it requires lots of forward planning.
Anyway back to topic, if they do keep this change to FD it would be nice if they adjusted the low mana regain on viper a bit to make up for it.

Rogues lost the ability to get out of combat on boss fights using Vanish a long long time ago. Mages don't get out of combat using invisibility. I fail to see why hunters should be treated differently.
Todd Nov 15th 2007 9:12AM
Wow, overpowered. I would call this a fix to something that was not "working as intended."
Matt Nov 15th 2007 9:15AM
I feel sorry for you guys. This reminds me of the stealth dot nerf from several months ago.
Coanunn Nov 15th 2007 9:19AM
Good grief.. as was said earlier, there are mana control systems in place. Use those before crying foul.. freaking huntards!
Oh and not being able to trap multiple targets isn't a NERF, it's an adjustment to a skill no different than not being able to sap, sheep, or any other cc method multiple targets.
HUNTARD QQ FTW - Make room for decent hunters who are hurt by the reputation that is built by the idiots.
Wraeth Nov 15th 2007 9:21AM
@14: Mages have evocation to regain mana as WELL as mana gems and potions. Rogues have no inherent advantage to gain through not being OOC in vanish for bosses; you can still reopener on the boss. Hunters have....yeah, pots, same as mages, but no evocate/mana gems. Aspect of the Viper regens *some* mana but that works regardless of combat ofc. Thus leaving mages with 3 in combat mana regens and hunters with 2. And rogues with 0. No mana for the stabbers @_@!
Basically comparing mages and hunters might work in terms of both have aggro dropping moves which lose them combat, but hunters had the greater use for it as they lack the mana-regeneration abilities of mages.

Damn, this just made my Jumper Cables even more useless. I loved my super hunter FD battle rez! That was the main reason I leveled engineering in the first place... At least I still have my rofflecopter.
