Breakfast Topic: Would you pre-BC raid with your alt?

While I applaud his attempt to recapture the glory of early WoW raiding, I think he may be surprised how old it quickly gets. The "good old days" are exactly that: in the past and staying there. It's like being a grown up and trying to sleep in your toddler bed. Mostly you're just going to embarrass yourself.
But I know the I'm often in the minority in my opinion, so I throw it out to you, loyal readers. Is it worth the time and effort to recapture the fun of pre-BC raiding or will the lure of Outalnd greens that exceed old world purples doom this guild?

I somehow doubt that gear is what these are after, so why would the better gear in Outland be a factor at all?
It sounds like a fantastic idea to me, and I have no doubt that they'll have lots of fun. The only problem would be actually staying at 60 over time, since they'll keep getting XP.

No it isn't worth the time and effort. I understand the feeling that the pre-TBC raids were some how more epic or grand simply due to the scale of a 40man raid.
However, with the exception of Naxx, I would say that the pre-TBC raids are not as fun or well designed as TBC raids.
But hey... it's they time and money :)

I think it's a great idea. Why not? This game doesn't offer just one path, which everyone needs to follow. In fact, I'd love to be a part of a guild who does that, never seeing most of pre-BC raid content.

I'd have to agree with you Dan, I really don't see the point.

I don't see why doing old raid content has to be mutually exclusive with advancing in BC. I would love to do the old raids on any of my characters, but why leave BC gear and abilities out of it? I think that'd be pretty fun to do; see how the old raids handle some of our new tricks.

Do this on an alt? Sure thing. Absolutely. If I had the opportunity I'd do this in a flash.
But probably only a matter of time before I decided that my alt wanted to travel to Outland and have some fun there too. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the best of both worlds. But I can't imagine be satisfied for very long with self-impose exile (?) on Azeroth.

If he can find 39 other people who want to take part, more power to him. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole though - I honestly don't think there was a single aspect of the game that was not improved by TBC. Dliberately avoiding the expansion content like that seems a little bit like hooking a black-and-white TV up to your satallite dish because you think the shows were better in the 1960s.
Anyhow, I'm wondering exactly how they're going to enforce the talent point restriction, since most of the talent trees were completely rewritten in 2.0. Are Feral Druids still required to suck?

While I do think that restricting gear/talents/levels to Pre-BC content is a waste of time, I would very much like to see some of the old world raiding dungeons. AQ40 in particular sounds like it would be a lot of fun (I can wait on Naxx until WotLK).

"I would love to do the old raids on any of my characters, but why leave BC gear and abilities out of it?" Because bc gear and abilities completely destroys any sort of hardness in the raid. We did 30 man c'thun pug the other week, 90% of the raid was their first shot, we killed him in 3 attempts. Heigan the Unclean who required people learned to stance dance pre-bc was tank and spanked and dead in around 44 seconds. The four horsemen which was supposed to be epic extreme hardness pre-bc was killed in 2 attempts.
But as someone who has raided 90% of all content, pre-bc and in tbc I'd say it would get old real quick once they get stuck on Razagore.

I guess for people who never got to go to these places it would be fun...once. Like someone else pointed out. MC is pretty bad. BWL less bad. AQ40...cthun only fun thing in it. Naxx, lots of fun bosses.

Why not? I'm only on my first toon (L50), and I doub't I will be doing many pre-BC raids (if any), but if they can get the people to do it, good on them! ;)

I like this idea...

Though I sometimes miss the old Pre-TBC content, on certain days, at certain times, I wish things were how they used to be. But a lot of good points are brought up here, and though I'd love to go back to the days of organizing 40 people to log on to clear MC, I'd have to pass it up. *Sniffle* Goodbye old raiding days, you're more gone than the Macarena.
Trapr Nov 18th 2007 11:58AM
I still think that Blizzard should somehow make pre-BC raids like Heroic instances, and once at lvl 70 you can get a key or attuned to run them and get Outland like epics. This could help bring back alot of the pre-BC areas and give people more of a choice as to where they want to raid

I love Trapr's idea

As the GM for a guild that formed just before BC, almost none of us actually ever SAW the old dungeons. The few ding-addicted members we have that went straight into the Outlands are now getting grumpy and feel 'rushed' past so much content, that they're rerolling new mains to take their time and actually hit Onyxia, Black Rock, AQ, and the like. While many folks focus on progression, and see no point to doing 'outdated' content, it's important to remember that for many of us, experiencing the content, the way YOU once did, is our point.
Personally, I'd be tickled if Blizz retuned the dungeons for this new "noob raider" ethic. The 40-mans worked when 2/3 of the server populations were stalled at 60. Now, they need to reset these down to like 10-25 man raids to reflect the actual populations and the worth of the gear relative to stepping into the Outlands. Yeah, the dungeons wouldn't be as EPIC as they used to be, but at least they'd be used and relevant.

I do Naxx/AQs weekly, its great fun.

Return to the days that specs such as Feral Druids and Shadow Priests suck? Return to the days where Prot Pallies weren't viable (wait they're Horde so they don't get Pallies right?)
TBC brought a lot of useful talents that made 'off specs' actually useful.
I would probably do those raids once just to see them, but by punishing specs that sucked pre-TBC, I can't imagine that being very fun. Will Hunters be forced to stand at least 8 yards before firing their ranged attacks as well?

just add 1 heroic badge per old raid boss downed and i think lots of ppl would have fun running old raid content. especialy the ppl who never had the chance to go. i've run MC a few times for fun because i never manaeged to go pre-TBC. Most raid bosses are more about knowing the encounter anyway. if you thik you can just go in and tank and spank your way through you're in for a bit of a reality check. (ye ye lots of caveats in that statement, i know a group of 40 lvl 70's would steamroll, but gl getting 40 ppl together to go, most i've seen is 20 at a time on our sever) Bliz could also scale the HP of the boss based on the combined lvl's of the group, or some other metric, to make it a bit more challengeing if they felt like it.
Verit Nov 19th 2007 1:27PM
What I can't figure out is why Blizzard doesn't upgrade the gear on these old raids? If they upgraded the gear perhaps more people would want to run them.
