Until you reach higher levels (40-ish) your life as shadow doesn't really start. Only at that point can you grab enough talent points to put you deep enough in the tree to do some real damage. If you're hellbent (shadowbent?) on running shadow all the way, I'd suggest you spec to this at 40:http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxMhzhZZgMxzM The support skills are useful, but the thing you need is mana return. Spirit tap is immensely useful, but it can't keep up with your mana costs as your spells rank up. Dots are your friends... use them. When I rolled my priest I would start with pw:s (start that cooldown ticking), then holy fire to pull, sw:p and wand to death. Toss a smite if you need one. Mind blast does more damage, but it will suck down your mana. Mind Flay is wonderful. Holy Fire, sw:p, 1 or 2 flays and a little wanding should take care of most mobs. Mind Flay is incredibly mana efficient, plus even though it is tagged as a 'channeled' spell it really works much more like an instant dot. You pay all your mana up front and it does damage over time. Why is that so wonderful? The time it takes to cast a full Mind Flay is just about the length of your spell timer on mana regen. At the end of a full Mind Flay you'll be regenerating mana at your non-spellcasting rate. So... if you can end a fight with a flay and then some wanding (which is a ranged 'shoot' attack and not a spellcast), your Spirit Tap will double your NORMAL mana regen and not your crappy during-cast mana regen... severely reducing downtime. I'd suggest you then level from 40 to this at 54, at which point you have arrived:http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxMhzhZZEMxzMxohk Fire up Shadowform and make the Argent Dawn proud. From there pick up Vampiric Touch as soon as you can and max out Darkness and Misery. Pile on the spell dmg and spell hit and once you get to about +950 damage you'll need to start speccing into Shadow Affinity to reduce the massive threat you can push out. I took points from Blackout for this purpose. Once you reach +101 spell hit and above you can start pulling points out of Shadow Focus and start speccing up even more damage-oriented portions of the Shadow tree. In short, it seems the Shadow tree really doesn't take off until the later talents. Until then DPS as Holy until you can snap up Mind Flay, then move full speed for shadowform. You can then fill in the gaps in your Shadow tree while laying waste to the Plaguelands... well.. laying them even MORE to waste I guess...
