2.4 on PTRs this year
World of Raids is reporting on a recent interview the German site WoWszene got with J. Allen Brack, lead producer for Wrath of the Lich King. While there isn't much in the way of new Wrath-related info in it, there is one bit that makes me happy: they plan on getting patch 2.4 onto PTRs before the year is out, which gives them less than a month and a half. So far, we don't know a lot of what's coming in 2.4. Here's what we do know:
- New area: Sunwell Isle, situated north of Eversong Woods, and featuring:
- A 25-man raid, probably with Kil'jaeden as the final boss, with better loot than the T6 raids
- Blizzard have said that a legendary bow will drop here
- A 5-man instance, with normal and heroic modes
- New daily quests
- Improved combat log
- We should probably see that trainable Ice Block by 2.4, although it may come sooner

Sorry if I misunderstood this, but didn't Blizzard say that the legendary bow would drop in Zul'Aman?
Todd Nov 19th 2007 10:40AM
I think Blizzard is rushing things.

Woo, I get to download all my mods again!

Blizz must make their employees work like horses! Give em a break!

No, they never said the legendary bow will be in ZA. That rumor stems from the two items being included in the same slide in a Blizzcon presentation:

A legendary bow that you can take out of the instance?

@6 LOL

Yeah, they wanted to give hunters something. We've had take-home legendary melee and caster weapons already, but never a ranged weapon.

Kil'Jaedan? Running out of villains a bit rapidly aren't they... I'm betting the expansion after WotLK will have something like a 100-man raid on Sargeras. maybe in the next-next expansion i.e., if all goes right, level cap becomes 100.

Casters have a legendary weapons in helps in combat, dont think so? This is like saying the hunter weapon will be used for helping to tame pets or something rather than combat.

According to www.wowjutsu.com 4.17% of the registered guilds have entered the Black Temple. Less than 1.3% of them have downed Illidan. And I believe it's pretty safe to assume that people that are that far make damn sure they're listed there.
Let's assume only half the players that venture into the Temple actually registered on Wowjutsu (but the epeen factor tells me they all did). That'd mean that only 8.34% of 1,852,872 players (154,529) go into the Temple, and 2.56% (47,433) have downed Illidan. Worldwide. 154,529 players of 9,300,000 is less than 2%. And this is if only half the guilds that go into the Temple registered.
Blizzard need not rush things. A new instance after Black Temple already will mean nothing to most of the players. Maybe they could for once concentrate on RP content, that'd please about the same amount of players.
2.3 was a pleasant surprise, as it came with content that the majority of the playerbase can actually reach. ZA was a great addition. Sure, people who are already smacking down on Hyjal or the Temple need not worry, and they are already QQing about the "crappy loot" in there. But you are a minority, and for once you should all STFU. You represent less than 5% of the raiding comminuty (once again, www.wowjutsu.com statistics). The majority is at or around Gruul's Lair, and there and just above is where the content should land.
Peace, love and understanding. And carrots. Yeah, I love carrots.

I hear you there. Which is why I'm glad 2.4 is going to have some new outdoor quests and a 5-man as well as this unattainable raid.
Hybrys Nov 19th 2007 12:41PM
The reason hardcore raiders would 'QQ' about ZA, is because it IS so accessable. There is some gear in that ten man that is best in slot for many classes, and I think that is very unfair for the people that actually worked into Hyjal/BT.
You're getting easymode epics, comparable to or better than BT epics, for none of the work.
ZA gear and the Arena gear are ruining our work. BT/Hyjal gear needs a buff, or those gear sets need a nerf.
Eliah Hecht Nov 19th 2007 12:44PM
I probably should know better than to get into this, but...I don't understand your reasoning. How can new gear in ZA make your gear worse? Why does it hurt you that more people now have top-quality gear?
Todd Nov 19th 2007 12:48PM
Heh, casters and their legendary weapon. Sure. Hopefully Blizzard will revisit this "so called" legendary caster weapon for the new expansion. If so, maybe Hunters will have two legendary weapons at their disposal.
Matthew Rossi Nov 19th 2007 12:48PM
@13 - I'm sorry, but you're simply incorrect.
The only thing that is 'ruining your work' is the attitude of entitlement you have towards it. It's a game, it's not a job. If you're playing like it is a job, and you have at least 24 other people willing to play that way, you'll progress faster than other people. But begrudging smaller guilds a chance to get some decent gear in ZA when they don't have enough people to do the 25 man raids is, in fact, your pettiness showing through. It's not enough for you that you have nice gear, and have had it longer: you want other people to have no path to gain except the one you took.
That's small minded and rather cruel.

Verit Nov 19th 2007 1:14PM
@14 because his self esteem depends on it. Believe it not - ZA is actually a challenge for most guilds (definately is for mine...)
amasen Nov 19th 2007 1:20PM
Well once again blizzard makes the Naxxarmas mistake. Sunwell will be released and almost no one will see it. It will be the same statistics, 1% of the wow populace will ever see sunwell (the raid).
10 Mans are clearly the popular thing in wow (after 5mans), and yet blizzard heavily neglects them while continuing to focus on the minority of their players... Good times...
