Reader UI of the Week: Kirrina
For this week's edition of Reader UI of the Week, we're featuring a pretty swank layout designed by Kirrina, L70 Night Elf Hunter of <Kiss of Ysera> from Emerald Dream, EU. For those of you curious of all the mods at work on this setup, here's what Kirrina had to say:
The focus here is to clear the majority of my screen so that I can just enjoy the game, seeing the really rather nice graphics that Blizz have made the effort to produce. I'm the raid leader in our Karazhan raids, so I also need to see how the raid is doing, have the healers got enough mana, who's targeting who and so on.
So, on to the addons:

So, on to the addons:
Layout
- Bongos 2* - for the basic positioning of my action bars, map, character menu etc.
- eePanels2 - for the semi-transparent panel at the bottom of the screen. I don't feel the need for some major piece of artwork, I just want it clean.
- AutoBar - gives me easy access to my consumables (bottom right)
- AmmoFu
- ClockFu
- DPS
- DurabilityFu
- ExperienceFu
- FactionsFu
- FriendsFu
- GuildFu
- ItemBonusesFu
- MoneyFu
- PetInfoFu
- ToFu
- ag_UnitFrames -- including aUF_Banzai, aUF_Layouts, aUF_RangeCheck - this displays clean & simple unit frames for myself & my party, but more importantly it highlights the current party member who has aggro.
- SCT, SCTd - for the scrolling combat text (and damage) on the screen
- WitchHunter / Antagonist - spell alerts to see what mobs are casting
- BanzaiAlert - alerts me when I get aggro
- Recount - damage meters (bottom right)
- MainAssist - shows me what everyone in my group (5 mans) or the MT targets (raids) are targetting so I can assist them. I haven't quite figured out how to turn off ORA2 assists, which is why I have both on screen (bottom-ish left) at the same time.
- MobHealth - estimates mob health
- ORA2, sRaidFrames, XRS - CT Raid equivalent
- Deadly Boss Mods* - boss warnings
- Omen / ThreatLib - threat meters (bottom right)
- Incubator - respawn timer
- zHunterMod* - drop down (or up) menus for traps, aspects, tracking etc.
- King of the Jungle - pet feeder
- Sorren's Timers - timer bars, for shots, marks & traps
- Baggins, Baggins_Search - all in one bag, allows you to set up custom grouping of items (i.e. for Auction)
- ClosetGnome - switch gear sets
- CharacterInfo - see all your characters inventory
- Loot: ItemSync, AtlasLoot
- Chat: Prat
- Maps: Cartographer
- Unit Tooltips: CowTip
- Mail: Postal
- Buffs: ElkBuffBars
- Quests: nQuestLog, Lightheaded* - shows you the comments from wowhead for each quest
- DeuceCommander - Fubar config
- EQCompare - allows me to compare items
- ErrorMonster - traps errors, very useful for my Steady Shot/Kill Command macro
- RatingBuster - breaks down combat ratings into real percentages
- HunterAEP - allows me to weight items to find out whether an item is actually an upgrade in real terms
- Mendeleev - lots of information added to tooltips
- BugSack - captures bugs from addons
If you're interested in showing off your UI for all of our readers to see, just drop me a mail at readerui@gmail.com with your character info, screens of your UI, and all the information. Your setup may be featured next for everyone to check out!

I have a fairly clean UI as well. It's the way to go for maxamizing game experience. I can't stand see a screenshot where someones UI is so crowded that you can only see the character.
Heres mine on an alt. Same functionality as on my main >>>http://aycu07.webshots.com/image/33366/2003955086605899506_rs.jpg (Thats with bags out and my tooltip highlighted...lucky drop I know ^^)
Another one without the bag and such out>>>http://aycu17.webshots.com/image/32336/2003927890523528226_rs.jpg

My UI is minimal and causes less headache on patch days.
I'm a caster, (mage & warlock) and I use Omen, and SLS and some utility which shows the sheep timer and some warlock timers, I forget what it's called.
I haven't used anything which greatly modifies the screen or the icons. I did briefly played with the utility which displays everything as nicely coloured rectangular bars. again I forget what it's called. I found it distracting in raids and went back to the standard WoW one which I was familiar with.

#2 is possibly a keylogger and definitely random as heck.
I guess I should submit my UI... I haven't liked any of the ones I've seen in this feature lately.

Not to be an asshole.. But that UI is crap. He spend none time on it, all bars are floating around the screen, chat frame totally out of the place.
arb Nov 20th 2007 4:10AM
I love this UI - can you confirm that this screenshot is post-Patch 2.3 and that the mods all still work?
Chiemi Nov 21st 2007 4:34AM
Hey Kirr, nice to see you around! /wave
While you have tons of practical addons and information around, have to agree with previous commenter that you should try to polish the visuals on it a bit, may it be by aligning bars, grouping buttons, etc... Besides that, great UI!
Linking mine for some tasteless publicity! :P

Hmm, these Reader UI of the week reminds me how i wanna make a new UI meself, i got an almost standard with just a CTmodding and titanbar over it (and no, i ain't showing it cus it sucks)
theremover Nov 20th 2007 7:28AM
Don't mean to knock things,
but in the article it talks about how one of the objectives was to keep the screen clear so the game could be enjoyed. Yet the screen is covered with all kinds of crap, UI things, floating bars and whatnot.
It seems to be contradictory to say the least. The default UI leaves you with more room!
KCV Nov 20th 2007 7:41AM
@4 post your UI
Ryan Nov 20th 2007 7:58AM
I don't get why people want to black out a third of their screen.
irishstu Nov 20th 2007 8:40AM
I have a similar layout (chat, hotbars, omen and DM all at the bottom) and I find blocking out the screen makes it easier to see things and read things.
nativebrown Nov 20th 2007 8:31AM
the UI isn't really working for me.
seems cluttered and random. i'm not a big fan of massive UI reworking as it is though.
Naix Nov 20th 2007 9:26AM
My nice clean UI is Alt+z. I know where all my keys are and have to look for nothing. Clean as you can get with Alt+z.

You know, Kirrina's also a raid leader, so I can see why you would have more stuff on your interface screen than someone who's just the usual guildie.
The center of the interface is clear, and that I like. I would not darken the lower part of the screen, but I like the placement of the buffs and pretty much how the lower part of the UI looks. I would pull the lower outlier buttons lower if possible. Some of the buttons are only used is safe situations, and one can take the time to right click or call them up rather than have them on a visible button.
All told, I've certainly seen worse, and for a leading a raid I think this is a good set up. I will definitely do some modifying of my UI.

@11
If they are using a viewport addon like Aperture, then there is a good deal of sence to blocking out the bottom with a big black bar, it tells the graphics card not to bother to render that area and as such should get you a couple more FPS.
Hybrys Nov 20th 2007 10:34AM
Heh. Reminds me of my pallies raiding UI. Things are everywhere!
I'll get some screens next raid. I think a lot of people would like my UI. It's similar, but, cleaner.
Lastembrace Nov 20th 2007 1:22PM
few tips to neaten it up:
align the chat with the eePanel at the bottom, the way it sticks out at the top is just ugly.
hide the micromenu (character, help, skills buttons etc above the chat) how often do you actually use them?
set your profession buttons on the right side so they at least fade out and fade in when you mouse over them. Again there's no need for them to be there all the time, unless you really need to craft some epics in an emergency situation...
hide the anchor for your elkbuffbars, it's ugly.
Those changes alone would take about 2 minutes and make the whole thing look much better, imo at least.
Here's a RAID shot of my UI, as in, this is as cluttered as it ever gets:

I don't wanna sound patronising or anything, I just like my UI's nice and clean and clutter-free so I thought I might offer some constructive critiscism.
Gabe Nov 21st 2007 12:51PM
Really dig your UI Chiemi, what addons are you using to achieve that?
Kirrina Dec 16th 2007 11:25AM
I've been on hols, sorry for the late reply.
@3 (Anton) - you're entitled to your opinion, but quite frankly I'm afraid you do sound like "an asshole". Try actually saying something, instead of just slagging this off.
@4 (arb) - yes I'm still using this in the latest patch 2.3.something.
@7 (theremover) - I hate the default ui, and certainly don't believe that it allows me more room. Try playing a hunter and placing your aspects/tracking (yes I know the last patch has refined the tracking somewhat) in the 'normal' bars. It just doesn't work.
@16 (Lastembrace) - thanks for the feedback. I admit that my raid ui gets messy, and there are probably a number of things I can do to polish it more. Ultimately this definitely veers towards the practical, as opposed to the attractive. Raid ui is the biggest area of concern, I just need to know what everyone else is doing, particularly with healer mana, threat levels etc.
@17 (Chiemi) - hi fella, hope you're good. :) Nice ui.
