I guess the Shrine of the Fallen Warrior in the Barrens is a sort of Easter egg; a memorial for deceased Blizzard employee Michel Koiter.
There's the Prairie Chicken companion pet, and a bazillion references to popular culture (Star Wars at Toshley's Station in Blades Edge, etc.)

There are also two memorials for Blizzard employees (or family, I don't know.) One South of the dwarf area (The bottom right corner of the map) and one in the graveyard of Southshore.

@3 In addition to the Star Wars references there are Starship Trooper references as well.
Also. There are a load of nintendo/classic game references. Empty Barrels from the monkeys of Un'Goro. The whole Linken quest line and the loot from it.
and so on.
