Comment voting is now enabled on WoW Insider

What does this mean to you?
How about the ability to vote up or down on comments. Don't like a hateful comment? Vote it down. Appreciate an insightful response? Vote it up! Spot an annoying gold selling link? Report it!
For long time posters, you are already integrated into the system. If you want to add a picture or otherwise update your profile, just click on your name on any comment and you will be taken to the user control panel. Once there you can choose an avatar, add a URL that will be in all your posts and check out all your past commenting activity.
New posters have only a slightly different process. Post your first comment on our site, you'll be sent an e-mail confirmation. Once you've confirmed your first comment, it will appear on WoW Insider. Click your name and off you go!
Have fun and if you have any questions or comments either post below or use our contact form.

Nice.

Yay for advanced commenting!
This helps to make the user feels like their opinion matters, and getting rid of some of the anonymity will hopefully help to get more productive comments in the system.
FireStar Nov 26th 2007 2:38PM
The neat thing about using the Reply button is that unlike the @1 and stuff like that this should send the user either a notification or the reply itself that was made on their comment. This will help to create more dialog. Just testing on me.

I vote "Meh" so far. The icons for posters and the ability to rate up or down are not needed (the latter would be if we had a slashdot size crowd but there's not a whole lot of comments for most articles).
Having a report button is always good even with the possibility of abuse.
I do like being able to actually reply to someone though.

I totally agree--I'd much prefer a similar voting system for the actual WowInsider writers. The last several months there have been many fluff pieces that seem specifically designed as comment generating trolls. I'm much more interested in voting on the WowInsider articles as a way for the authors to get direct feedback on their work, and hopefully steer toward areas of interest that the readership is best served by.

Sweet! I haven't been checking WoW Insider all last week so I just went looking through old posts trying to figure out when this was implemented and if a post was made about it... 11 pages in and nothing, then back to front and *poof* there it is!
It's way cool that it works on all the old posts too...
Any plans to make the comment background colors more consistent with the rest of this site or vice versa? I looks like it was (understandably) imported from Massively without customization...
Arturis Nov 26th 2007 2:46PM
I agree that the colors need to by changed, but hopefully that will be a simple CSS tweak when the devs have time to get to it.
Ghen Nov 26th 2007 3:02PM
yep, yellow and grey work great on joystiq or massively... but not with this background.
Ghen Nov 26th 2007 3:03PM
oops, white and grey. hey, its monday.
ThorinII Nov 26th 2007 2:43PM
Like Itallian and French are all that different? Seriously, though it's been 10+ years since I've seen it. But, it sticks in my head still.
Richard Nov 26th 2007 3:10PM
I *dare* you to walk up to a Frenchman and tell him he's basically Italian or (especially) vice-versa.
Now that would be fun to watch!
ThorinII Nov 26th 2007 5:50PM
I meant the accent is basically the same. Especially when coming from a Monte Python movie.
Kate Nov 26th 2007 2:49PM
Testing this out to find my profile =)
SirCasey Nov 26th 2007 2:49PM
Oh, and thanks for the addition of the page options at the bottom of posts! Very, very nice not having to click through all the pages of a post if you've already read them to get to the most recent ones...
Kudos to the developers! You guys rock!
Johadar Nov 26th 2007 3:49PM
Hmm, I've wondered why there's that "E-mail me when someone replies to this comment" option was there for a while now. Now it has a reason for existing. Feel free to insert a philosophical comment of your own here [ ].
Green Armadillo Nov 26th 2007 2:53PM
I just made the 20th comment on a post (it was a reply to another comment, if that makes a difference), and the comments section now has a page 1 and page 2 button even though there aren't yet any comments on the second page. Not sure if this is a new issue or not, but someone should take look at it. :)
JediGadget Nov 26th 2007 2:55PM
Spiffy, now I have to find a cool avatar :D
Melf Nov 26th 2007 3:03PM
This is a long overdue and thoroughly welcomed change! Thanks guys!
