Cheating on WoW
Most of the other WoW gamers I know are simply gamers that play WoW, meaning that they play other games in addition to their Azerothian addiction. My guild forums often have a thread or two going about other games that members are playing, recommending them to everyone else, and there are many references to other games within the world of Warcraft itself. It's obvious that the core audience for this MMO plays other games as well.Personally, with an aging computer and a smallish gaming budget, I've missed out on a lot of the "must play" games of the last few years. World of Warcraft has served me well in that regard, since I haven't really needed to upgrade my hardware to keep playing it and it's a good value for the amount of entertainment it provides. Nonetheless, I have played other games from time to time, but I still find myself logging into Azeroth (and/or Outland) most days of the week, sometimes just to check auctions and mail. Oftentimes, playing other games gives me a needed break from Warcraft, even if only for a week or so. Undoubtedly, these short breaks are one of the things which have kept me playing WoW all these years.
All of this leads me to wonder how other players balance their WoW time with their other gaming pursuits. Are you a WoW purist, only playing the one game? Do you own multiple consoles and buy every table-top and computer game that's released? The last few patches have coincided with the release of some pretty big titles and there are more on the way this holiday season. Have you had to make some difficult decisions about how to spend your time and money?

I cheat on WoW regularly with Team Fortress 2. The Medic class gives me my fix on those dangerous fantasies of which my druid could never fulfill.

I often play CoD4 and I have been thinking about Hellgate: London lately. But no promises. I loves my WoW.

I have neither a lot of time nor a lot of money to buy a console, so I'm a WoW purist be default. I have given some other games a shot if they have a free trial period on offer. Asheron's Call, EQ2, City of Heroes/Villains, LOTRO. I actually just bought Guild Wars tonight, figuring I'd give it a shot especially since it's Free To Play.
So I wouldn't say I've cheated with other games, since I've never really stuck with anything else. It's more like...flirtation, really.

I use to be one of those who owned every single console. before the release of the recent next gen hardware. However since WoW I really dont play anything else other then, like you, for a break. The last new console game I bought was FFXII and I think Ive played all of about two hours in it. Before that, I couldnt tell you. I stick to pretty much WoW and my PSP when Im not near my computer. Played HG London demo and it was meh for me. WoW has me hooked /sigh. And for 15 bucks a month by far the cheapest Ive spent on games since it came out. Being someone who used to buy a game at least once a month. WoW4LiF :)

I cheat regularly, it's in my blood. Currently I'm juggling three games right now: WoW, EVE Online, and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Eventually I'll finish up the first Sly Cooper as well, and I've nearly beaten several other games that I'm am taking a break from at the moment. Ones that come to mind are Pokémon Diamond and Kingdom Hearts. Until I can afford to upgrade my computer and/or get a next gen console, my cheating on WoW will be severely limited, though ;P

I'm a WoW-purist. It's a miracle that I even play this one. Chances are that I'll not play any other game (nor do I have the inclination to)

I've been WoWing it up since release but every few months I take a break for a week or so to play my Xbox 360, these breaks help keep WoW interesting for me.

I've been playing WoW for an year and a half, and I've bought a 360 two months ago as another effort to break my addiction.
It's collecting dust atm.
I'm even wondering about selling it to give my computer a very needed upgrade.

I generally play WoW, but there is an Xbox 360, a PS3 and a WII sitting on the shelf under my 62" Sony Vega. I do sometimes divert my attention to play some new games for a while.
Lately I've spent a little time playing Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed, Guitar Hero 3 and Mass Effect.

Assassins Creed is flavor of the week for me at the moment, its a great diversion/change compared to wow.
Nothing like something totally different that makes your eyes bleed from it's HD goodness.

I always have been a gamer, and I've become more hardcore with the years, and it has become hard for me to balance out all the games I want to play and WoW. I bought a ton of games this summer of which I have beaten none because of my intense raiding times. Although I do love WoW, it blocks my time for the serious gaming I have wished to take on.

Hellgate: London and Rock Band are my shameful vice. O_O

I was 5 when i played my first game: Mario 3. Since then ive owned a super nintendo, sega genesis, sega gamegear, N64, ps1, ps2, xbox, wii, Ps3, and nintendo DS and of course PC.
Games currently playing: UT2K4, WoW, CS:S, Guitar Hero 3 (PS3), Call of Duty 4(PS3), Zelda:phantom hourglass and Tabula Rasa.
Games I occasionally pick up and play for an hour or less: Zelda twilight princess (Wii) and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
Games collecting dust: There are so many but ill just list the recent ones: Rise of Legends, Everquest 2, Quakewars- Enemy Territory, Sword of the new World, Guild wars, Black and white 2, Oblivion, and Fear.
I just realized i waste a lot of money on gaming LOL.

Alongside with WoW, I play a few other games such as Quake 3, Call of Duty series, Warcraft 3, Settlers II, and Grand Theft Auto series it's all about managing a wide repertoire of interests, in order not to get bored of gaming in whole. :)

Good thoughts; I tend to play mostly WOW for the same reasons the author writes. I don't really have time to play anything else, aside from a dabble in lego star wars on the PS2 with the kids.
Side note: I was pretty disappointed to find at the footer of the RSS feed an ad to Buy WOW Gold from Game Goody. I'd like to suggest WOW Insider carefully consider what ads they allow with their RSS publications, and if it's something they can't control (such as Google Ads perhaps) then remove them altogether.

As a friend of mine once said, any time you're not playing WoW, you're losing at WoW. So right now, as I type this message, I am losing at WoW, which makes me sad.
I've been playing WoW since Beta and have recently moved abroad and so am leveling another character to 70 (at 63 so far!) but the challenge is that since I work in the game industry, a lot of games pile up, unplayed.
I have Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Naruto and Skate still in their shrink wrap. I'm two levels into Bioshock. I'm three levels into CoD4. I'm level 6 on my Hellgate character.... You get the picture... But I'm losing at WoW every time I play these games!

As uninteresting as it may sound, I don't play any other games aside WoW. I have a decent gaming pc (HD2900XT Equipped with 2GB Ram and so on) but i still can't get myself to do anything else except wowing. Why? there's so much to do in WoW. Get honor points, save up badges, horde daily bgs and honors and etc etc..
If there's nothing else i have to do, a trip down to Wizard Row to gather Primal Mana or Blackwind Lake to rob surgers off of their motes, is what i like xD
With all the daily bgs, farming has been the least of my concerns. Which kinda refers to how fun WoW has been since 2.3.

Thysmage

hahah i was expecting a different kind of article, but I suppose that would have supposed to been "cheat IN" rather than "cheat ON."
Yes I do cheat on WoW, frequently. I was playing Bioshock almost exclusively when it came out and the same for when Portal did. Now I have UT3 installed but that game is much more demanding in a smaller span of time. So I dunno if it would be a good "break from WoW" game, emphasizing the "break."
