To shop with honor
Although Patch 2.3 arrived two weeks ago, it isn't until today that Arena Season 3 will make its official debut. Just like in fashion, the styles of the previous Seasons will go on sale for low, low prices. In fact, in true Filene's Basement style, the items from Season 1 will become purchasable with Honor and Marks of Honor. The once-shiny gear from Season 2 are being taken off the racks to make way for the latest Vengeful Gladiator's fashions, complemented by Vindicator's accessories. Some players looking ahead have already saved up on the maximum Honor of 75,000 and maximum Arena Points of 5,000 in preparation for the new Season. I think I have an idea of how my wife feels when Mango goes on sale and a new line comes in. It's kind of like the World of Warcraft equivalent of Black Friday. How about you? What's on your Honor shopping list? Will you be buying Season 1 gear or spend it on the new Vindicator items? Will you be buying armor or weapons? Are you trooping over to the Hall of Legends or the Champion's Hall before you head over to Area 52 (with branches now open in Nagrand and Blade's Edge!)? Choices, choices.

For my hunter I will be purchasing the entire Season one armor set (i hit the honor cap last night) and grinding out the remainder of the crossbow today and tomorrow. This is such a great way to gear up alts (my main is a holy paladin).

I'm getting the S1 staff and the Gladiator Gloves/Hat to go with my Frozen Shadowweave set. I'll have ~6K honor left to start to saving up for the Vindicator gear. In principle, the Vindicator stuff represents a bigger DPS increase for me, but I'm dying a lot in battlegrounds, and I'm hoping that the resilience from the 2 piece set bonus (plus the individual pieces) will make me a bit more durable as I try to finish the job.

I have maxed my honor points (but sadly not arena points), so I will be headed to the Champions' Hall later today.
My shopping list consists of a 2H Weapon, Helm, Chestpiece, and Leggings, for a total of 70,500 honor points (and the respective marks).

I've only gathered arena/honor points on one of my alts, actually. My poorly geared ret paladin will see huge upgrades after the servers come up today, and she's very happy about it! She'll get the s3 helm & necklace and the s1 chest, shoulders and leggings. Add a lower city helm enchant, an Aldor shoulder enchant and some nethercleft leg armor and wow! Huge upgrade. And a 35s Hammer of Justice cooldown.

My priest will be getting S3 Robe and Helm today and S3 Legs next Tuesday. I will also be buying the ring, belt, and neck with honor this week.

S1 Helm, Shoulders and legs (gloves if I have the honor), and I'll look at other things as well

I had to go out of town for Thanksgiving so I didnt get to farm as much as I wanted but I will have enough to at least get a S1 dagger for my rogue alt and a S1 xbow on my hunter alt. I got a nice little 5k honor head start on my 67 priest this weekend in AV too. If you didnt notice Im having issues sticking to one character right now. LOL

I'll be about 10K short from getting my S1 2handed sword. I should have it by the end of the week.
Other thoughts:
With everyone gearing up with S1 gear won't we all in a sence be back to where we started from gear wise?
eg. We'll have the new shiney weapons to put out the Damage. But we'll also have the new shiney armor to nullify it.

People are lazy. If they weren't then the Auction House would be out of business. The same applies to Battlegrounds and Arenas. Not everyone is getting epics today, nor in a week. The majority of "casual" players don't bg or do it very little so don't worry there will be plenty of undergeared opponents to whoop up on. Myself, I probably have enough honor on my warrior to get sum S1 gear but I'm more interested in my mage, he's 68 and will have 3 pcs of S1 gear in the bank when he hits 70 and perhaps even more at the dawn of 70.
Which brings me to a question. Which is better the spellfire set or the S1 set? My current build is 34/24/0. I do more PVP than PVE but I don't like to limit myself either way. Any helpful comments would be appreciated! =)

I got about 20k honor right now, but I'm level 68! I'm hitting 70 before this first week of the Arena is out and I'll be purchasing the S1 shoulders and gloves (for the 2 piece bonus). Joining a scrub arena team to start racking up the points while I grind out more honor.
My progression is going to be something like...Vindicator 3 piece, 2-rings, 1-pendant and then more S1 gear.
The S2 rings are still on sale, yes? mmo-champion listed them as having a price, I hope they're still around (rock a S2 and a S3 ring!)

My paladin is getting the gift of a Season One healing mace.
The biggest present is my Druid who will be receiving the Season 3 Gloves and Legs.

@8 I had the same thought.
It remains to be seen how many of our peers/opponents in Arena/BGs will have invested the time required to buy multiple S1 items, but there is a very real chance we've all spent hours in AV only to stand still. That said, it should make PvE grinding/Daily quests somewhat easier, and get us closer to those full-S3 guys we'll inevitably encounter in Arena (Rating reset FTL) and BGs.
Bombadilo Nov 27th 2007 11:13AM
Main (hunter) will be getting the S3 2H Axe (1k arena points and no rating requirement!!! Cant pass it up!) and Gloves. I haven't saved up much honor, but I will be going after the vindicator's belt, boots, and bracers first with that.
Alt (mage) is still saving up on the grind toward 70. I hope to have 75k honor by the time he reaches 70 for a few nice end game presents for him :)

Im not a PvPer, but i have been spamming AV recently just for the 25k needed for the S1 1H Mace for my Prot Pally (Which is the ONLY* epic wep for tankadins i have found that is better than the Continuum Blade from KoT rep. with the +40 Spell Dam ill be raking in the threat even more :D) I might do more PvP though, coz i like AV and being able to tank the bosses makes me feel a bit less useless next to all those PvP smegs :P
*By only i mean from any rep reward, instance, heroic or even Kara.
Argent Nov 27th 2007 2:57PM
hum. what's your criteria for prot tanking weapon? cuz unless you're talking strictly 5 man content and pvp, there are some seriously better weapons for paladin tanking, some as early in as gruul.
stuff like the hammer of judgement just cudgels the gladiator's gavel. but i wouldn't even use that to tank over the bloodmaw magus-blade.
Good_Idea Nov 27th 2007 11:37AM
Season 1 weapons for my rogue alt, Season 3 shield and gloves for my shaman main.
Heraclea Nov 27th 2007 11:58AM
For me, the limiting factor is not "honor" points, but the marks you get from the various battlegrounds. I have close to a full stack of AV marks, a fairly substantial number of EotS marks, a painfully acquired stack of 32 AB marks, and ten or eleven WSG marks.
Right now I'm torn between the slower 1H sword and the gladiator's chest piece. The armor will be an upgrade for me, but not as big as the upgrade will be to Bulwark of Kings when I finally get ten primal nethers; so I know when that one will become obsolete. The sword is also an upgrade; I still covet some Karazhan weapons, but there's a luck involved in getting them if they drop. I may just go with the sword, since the path to the armor is within my control, I still have the marks needed to buy the armor, and I can always farm more "honor" points if the nethers don't roll in fast enough.

916,000 lifetime kills? umm where did you get that picture? ive never seen more than 100k.
Tim Nov 27th 2007 12:14PM
Did you forget about people that are on accounts that used to be Rank 14 :)
zookee Nov 27th 2007 12:31PM
no sir I am an old school warlord myself, and I only have 80k or so. 916,000 just seems obscene.
