Phat Loot Phriday: Bulwark of Azzinoth

Name: Bulwark of Azzinoth
Type: Epic Shield
Armor: 6336, 174 Block
Abilities:
- +60 Stamina
- It's huge! Look at it! You can't even tell what's going on back there!
- On Equip: Increases defense rating by 29.
- When struck in combat, has a 2% chance of
wrapping you in teflon baconincreasing your armor by 2000 for 10 seconds. That's over two thousand! Armor, as you may know, directly reduces the damage you take even when you get hit. So this proc is a damage reducer, and less damage means a tank that's still standing at the end of the fight. - Did I mention how huge it is? Imagine if that thing really was made out of solid metal, with all those spikes and everything. You'd have to have a bonus to strength just to carry it around.
And it includes this, Azzinoth's Bulwark. So to get it, you have to take it from Illidan himself. That's right, be prepared like a Boy Scout, drop the big bad, and pick up this shield at a drop rate of around 10-12%.
Getting Rid of It: Vendors for 9g 45s 38c. Man, when you look at that price versus the price of the ring we posted the other week, it really makes you wonder what's going on in the heads of those developers.

It's a great shield. Good defense rating, excellent stam, and a useful proc. For single target tanking I can't imagine it proccing too much, but if it were in the hands of say, a paladin, it would be up for long periods of time (that is of course unless the proc has an internal cooldown). Did I mention it looks incredibly awesome?
Funnily enough, anyone capable of getting this shield wouldn't actually 'NEED' it, per se. It would make future tanking easier, but obviously they're capable of downing every other current boss in the game. =) However, I can imagine quite a few BT tanks charging into the Sunwell in 2.4, this shield at the ready, prepared to do battle against Kil'Jaeden and his minions. ^^

It's actually interesting that you bring up that point. There's gonna be a lot of gear from the former commander of the Burning Legion that's going to help defeat the current commander of the Burning Legion!
Hubris FTW.

"...he killed Azzinoth, and according to the rules of the Warcraft playground, took all his stuff..."
Great quote.

Hmm, what is it with Phat Loot Phriday always showing stuff I will never be able to get? :(

Hydrocane (to give at least one example).

The Phat Loot Phriday feature has always been a point of debate among its readers. If it's too easy to get then people complain that it's not phat enough. If it's too hard to get people complain they're too phat.
Me personally I prefer to see alternating stuff, one week we get a stuff from BT, another week we go down to the simpler but unique stuff.
Of course, other people aren't as easy to please as myself.

Yeah, this is what I do as much as possible-- alternate between high level raiding gear and lower level interesting gear. If you guys ever have a suggestion for either, feel free to drop a note on the tipline and let me know what I should look for.

Vendor values are what determine repair values.
Rings don't need repairs, so they're inherently more valuable than gear you have to pay for over and over and over. Make the gear worth 30-50g on vendoring? You're going to spend that 30-50g every time you need to repair it in full. (this is why plenty of tooltip addons will give you a fake vendor value for an item that you can't actually sell back to anyone like honor gear).
So, do you really want those epic repairables to be worth 200g when you sell them to a vendor? I really doubt it.

Heh, everyone in my guild calls that shield "the front door."
