Breakfast Topic: Do you know the patch guy?
In every guild, there's that guy. You know the one I'm talking about. He was around for awhile, enthusiastic about the game, wanting to jump in on guild PuG's and have some fun. Then he wasn't around much. Then he wasn't around at all and you forgot about him.A big patch goes live and he's back. "Hey, how's it going, man? Long time no see!" You think hard to remember when you last grouped with him. It's all a blur, it's been so long. But there's new content and he's raring to go! Fair enough, but you know he'll drift away again in a month or so.
Do you know that guy? Are you that guy?

I gotta admit, I'm a patch guy for both 2.0 and 2.3. My first ever character was a hunter. Got him to 60, ran MC, BWL, AQ, Naxx, got bored, so I spent more time on alts. Then when 2.0 and the new talents, I dropped my alts for PvP'ing on my hunter. But when BC came out, I went back to an alt, a warrior, and got him to 70 before I even touched the hunter again.
Even more recently, a friend asked me to join her on her server, so I have a squidbilly shaman over there (I still like Horde better, just something seems to click with me there). Got him to 45 pre 2.3. Once 2.3 came out, I gained 5 levels in three days on him, and with the knowledge of the BG dailies, I've been working more and more on my underleveled hunter and under PvP-geared warrior. Working on three characters while holding a full time job is kinda hard.

hey, I know that guy !!
seriously, I don't like him/her, because you can't build anything. they will always disappear.

it's impossible to play 3 characters with a full time job.
just have ONE character, play it for fun in free time and have a happy full time job :)

Yeah...I have a whole part of a guild of that type, unfortunately. They get all excited about doing things and then when they realize that it takes effort consisting of more than 8-10 hours a week, they claim to get bored and drift away to basically say, "See you next expansion!!". Really annoying.

"they claim to get bored" ....no, i'm guessing they probably really are bored. but you know, hey, if you like spending your life doing repetative game grinding, then have at it.

I like those ones that go off to the PTR cause they are bored... they are bored because by the time new content does go Live, they done it to death and fade into the distance.
Dont know anyone that obssessively goes to PTR, a few in guild have a mindless play around... but raids and building Live assets is more important than wasting time in a PTR that will be deleted

Thats me...but not in regards to patches. Whenever I start to read a lot about different aspect of WoW I get excited and start in, and then after a couple of days I back off. I only have one 70, my priest. Almost three years old =)

I AM that guy. At least lately, I have been.
With Christmas break coming up, all of my classes have been packed with work and I wasn't able to play. When 2.3 hit I was right back for for a week and a half or so, but at the moment I've fallen out again.

I don't know anyone like that.. However I'm the guy that spams guild chat and ventrillo with ZOMG Patch so and so is letting us do this!!!
I'm usually the first to know anything about patch notes in my guild, so I like to pass it along. The guild i'm in doesn't respect me though so i've stopped it. But in my new guild they know how good I am and in turn luv to chat with me about WoW :)

Yep, I'm that guy. Quit for a while, came back for the Expansion. Quit in May, came back last week for 2.3. Who knows how long I'll stay this time.

I'm that guy! (err, girl)
I got my husband to start again right before 2.3, we started some new draenei and have leveled them to like.. lvl15.. over the past month... I know, pathetic. But he works full time and I'm a full time graduate student. We get really bored if we don't play together so it ends up being limited to time we can both play.

Our guild is a raid guild. 'That guy' comes back on after a patch to find that his lack of attendance has pushed him down to the lowest rank, and that raid invites are very very scarce for players at that rank. Nothing wrong with 'that guy' per se, but not only will they not help with raid progression, their very participation in raids (on those rare times they are around) will actually hurt progression in the long run. 'That guy' is welcome to hang around and run 5 mans and offnight 10 mans, but has no place in progression raiding.

It's sad to say but I'm becoming "that guy". As much as I love the game and my guild, I honestly don't know how much longer this game will keep my interest. I'm finding that I'm playing less and less every month.
I'm quite used to the old "carrot on a stick" method most MMO's employ, yet it appears Blizzard has removed the carrot and the stick alone just isn't that appealing to me.
I've been stuck in limbo on my main, a protection spec warrior, which I've been playing since the day this game released. I can't reliably get heroic groups to get badges and I don't have enough gear to tank KZ yet, so I feel as if I have zero ways to progress. I am beyond frustrated with this game at this point.
Sorry for the rant. I just wanted to give my reasons for being "that guy." I know many other players that feel as if they are in the same boat as I am. It's hard to justify spending the money every month for a game you feel you can't progress in.
