Two Bosses Enter: Sapphiron vs. Bloodlord Mandokir

- Sapphiron vs. Mandokir
- Moam vs. the Twin Emperors
- Ragnaros vs. Ossirian
- Kel'Thuzad vs. Archimonde
- Vaelastrasz vs. Hakkar
- Illidan vs. Chromaggus
- Vashj vs. Huhurahn
- Gruul vs. C'Thun

In a combat, Sapphiron will use the following abilities:
- Cleave: A standard frontal cleave.
- Icebolt: A ranged frost attack that Sapphiron only uses from the air. It does frost damage to its primary target and stuns them for several seconds as well as splash damage to targets in the vicinity.
- Frost Breath: A very high damage frost AoE that Sapphiron casts from the air before landing.
- Frost Aura: An aura that does frost damage over time to anyone within range.
- Life Drain: A DoT that (surprise!) drains life from the target and heals Sapphiron. (And be warned -- it heals him for more than it hurts you.)
- Blizzard: A frost AoE that slows movement speed if you're caught in it.

In a fight, Mandokir relies on powerful melee abilities to defeat his opponents. He hits hard, has a dangerous AoE whirlwind attack, and will occasionally charge at the target farthest away from him. Occasionally, he'll whisper to one of his targets, "Don't make me angry! You won't like me when I'm angry!" He'll "watch" this target for some time and if they make any threatening moves... he's right, you won't like him at all when he's angry.
Mandokir uses the following abilities:
- Charge: He'll charge at targets to strike them.
- Cleave: A standard frontal cleave.
- Whirlwind: A high-damage AoE attack for players in melee range.
- Watch: Mandokir is always watching somebody -- and if they do anything, he'll Charge them and hit hard. (Often hard enough to kill a player.)
So who wins and who loses? Though Mandokir's abilities are most powerful on groups of players (which give him leveling fodder), his melee skills are nothing to laugh about. However, Mandokir's abilities won't be of much use while Sapphiron is in flight and sniping at him from above. But who would come out a winner in a fight to the death between these two? Why don't you tell us.
But before you vote, remember -- we're considering these two bosses to have similar health and power. This isn't an exercise from math class and we aren't counting hitpoints. Consider the bosses' fighting abilities when you vote, not their exact levels or health.

I don't believe there'd be much of a contest. The only way I could see Mandokir being able to fight Sapphiron at all would be levelling a few times, which isn't possible for him in the situation.
Sapphiron has many more abilities that will just outdamage Mandokir quickly, in my opinion.

There is no feasible way that the broodlord could beat sapphiron. There is a reason why mandokir is in ZG and Saph is in Naxx :P

Alright, there's been a million comments like this one, but apparently it STILL needs to be repeated. THEY ARE THE SAME LEVEL AND HP. Now, with that being said, Saph would win.
jappaex Dec 2nd 2007 6:07PM
i know that. But this is taking into account the abilities (which saph has mandokir beat on). I like mandokir, i really do but its a lost cause in his case.

All though I love trolls, (not the forum type) I'm going to have to side with Saph on this one.
With the take to the air and send stunning frost bolts, life drain healing more than damaging, and frost aura. So unless someone feels like gearing the bloodlord with frost resistant gear, Saph will sweep him.

wtf is with all the recent match ups. i mean come on = / .

Is there a cooldown on Sapphiron's flight? For me, this fight boils down to how much Sapphiron can be in flight.
Given that the Bloodlord will be "watching" Sapphiron the whole fight, we can assume that he has the advantage in melee. However, if there's no cooldown on Sapphiron's flying, then that advantage is completely negated and the Bloodlord has no chance.
Also, Jappaex, if that's the case, then let's just crown Illidan right now. Where a boss is in progression cannot be relevant to this if we are to make this interesting at all.

Taken all of both bosses abilities, Mandokir is dragon bait. Saph will pwn him

Sapphiron vs. Bloodlord Mandokir?
Sapphiron will simply kick Mandokir's ass from the air.
matrix_dragon Dec 2nd 2007 11:59AM
Wait a minute...
That will simply "evade bug" Bloodlord Mandokir and as long as Sapphiron stays in the air, Mandokir takes no damage and heals back to full health LOL.

Considering there's an exploit (fixed?) that allows you to bug out the raptor and then attack bloodlord from a distance and slowly whittle him down, I say Sapphiron wins hands down. (not saying that I've ever used that exploit myself)
Psychosis Dec 2nd 2007 4:26PM
Sapphiron would win hands down, due to the fact that mandokir or the his raptor have ranged attacks when sapphiron starts flying
also i just pugged ZG with 20 60-70s (only like 2 70's and all rest were under 66) and we took him down first time... no mount though :(
Bill Murphy Dec 2nd 2007 6:22PM
Saph hands down, he guards Kel, there's no way some troll could take him down.

The problem with this setup is that Mandokir's mount hasn't been mentioned. By himself, no contest, Saph wins. WITH the mount the balance changes, at least enough to make it a closer fight. Saph's AoE will kill the raptor relatively fast (though probably not before a good stack of sunders are applied), tripping Mandokir's enrage timer. It would be a close fight with mandokir losing UNLESS saph flies, evade bugs Mandokir, and resets his health, in which case Mandokir would get his most satisfying "Ding!" to date.

A suggestion, for the next time you queue up bosses for the feature:
Edwin Van Cleef vs. Verdan the Everliving.
A lot of people have never been in all of the old 40-man raids from before Burning Crusade. But just about everybody has run into these two.

@7 Technically, nax is higher then black temple, its coming out in next expansion again, havent you noticed people raiding all the old instances except for nax? B/c its closed until re-release.

Mandokir's abilities are most useful when there are multiple mobs where he can do the most damage, and ding from killing the idiots that STILL can't understand the concept of "DO NOT DO ANYTHING WHEN BEING WATCHED" as they take the break from dpsing to bandage.
Sapphie has this one in the bag.

I think the best ways to consider these fights, is to imagine yourself playing Sapphiron engaging Mandokir as an NPC controlled boss. Then imagine yourself playing Mandokir engaging the Sapphiron encounter.
As Sapphiron engaging Mandokir, it wouldn't be too hard. Similar melee damage, cleaves and blizzard to also take care of his pet. You will also lifedrain on your cooldown, and have a frost damage aura. You would also fly up to frost breath often (NPCs can hit flying mobs though, so it wouldn't make you immune to his damage).
As Mandokir engaging Sapphiron, things get alot harder. You can run out of the blizzards and maybe the frost breath (not sure how it works in the encounter). You would also put on frost resist gear to negate most of his frost damage. However, this would reduce your melee damage, and you wouldn't be able to outlasthim.
Clear win for Sapphiron.
LatinViruz Dec 3rd 2007 9:57AM
saph FTW!
Ghen Dec 3rd 2007 1:39PM
Sapphiron would destroy the raptor in a few AOEs and then weather the enrage with life drain.
