L2p Paladin with Eyonix
Earlier today, Eyonix created a rather unique thread on the official WoW Paladin forum. He made it clear that he wasn't asking for feedback to give to the developers on the class, but rather that the questions would come from him as a player of the game. Apparently he made a Paladin alt a couple of weeks ago and is seeking advice regarding the best leveling strategy.Threads like this pop up in the class forums quite commonly. When faced with the grind from level one to seventy, players often turn to the more experienced members of their class for advice on talent builds and leveling strategies. Of course, those players are not also community managers, posting with the hallowed blue text.
As you can imagine, the thread is already quite long and only promises to grow longer since Eyonix has mentioned that he'll be keeping it updated through the week with new questions. It's interesting to see a Blizzard employee posting his talent spec and asking typical player questions and there is actually a lot of good advice on playing the class. Head on over to the Paladin forum to check out the thread yourself and L2p Paladin along with Eyonix.

Maybe he'll see the limitations of the class that need to be fixed...

like he sees the issues with the boomkin he plays? doubtful.

Depends on who he listens to. If he listens to the very intelligent, creative, and knowledgeable paladins he will probably not think there is much of a problem.
If he listens to the morons who think they should DPS like rogues, heal like a sham-rui-eis-adin, CC like a mage, and dot like a warlock. He might push for more buffs.
Jack of all trades, master of none. Isn't that what these mixed classes are supposed to be? Druids, shamans, paladins.
This is not to say that paladins are fine. I am just starting to play one myself so will be interested in that thread.

Geez, what's wrong with Paladins now? I've been Holy since BC came out, but I was under the impression that 2.3 fixed most of our pressing issues (A friend of mine who plays Prot seems happy with the free +Stam). We need better itemization, I know. I'm just waiting to see what drops in the Sunwell instances.
Other than giving my FHP Seal of Blood, I really don't know what we could possibly need at this point.

Some way to be viable in 2v2 and 3v3 arenas would be nice.

To the surprise of few, shaman are infiltrating the boards, trying to hijack the attention.

Eyonix to world: "Hey guys, wanting some good tips for leveling a pally up..."
World of Eyonix: "It's a trap... get an axe..."
Fizzle Dec 3rd 2007 1:17PM
Pfft... that should have read "World to Eyonix"...
I hate Mondays... can't even crack a joke right.

To ninjasuperspy;
Ret itemization was recently changed to be based more on DPS Warrior plate.
But most of Ret's abilities, and the rest of the class' other abilities, still scale with Spell Damage. Crusader Strike had its SD component removed, so we're waiting on with what else is coming up.
Eyonix's question is pretty detailed, he knows what he wants to know...

Yeah, that is what I've been able to gather. I'm trying to avoid the forums (too much pessimism was starting to intrude on my enjoyment of the game). I can see where the new Crusader Strike is a step in the right direction, pending balance test of the effect of the 6 second cooldown on shot rotations and the effectiveness of the 110% damage portion. This leaves Seal of Command dependent on Spell Damage, which is a problem. Alliance Paladins either need Seal of Blood or Seal of Command rebalanced to not use Spelldamage. I'd prefer the latter because moving over Seal of Blood would just make Command obsolete and wouldn't come into play until level 64 anyway.
Leave Seal of Righteousness as Spelldamage dependant, a direct damage spell that scales with spelldamage is still a good niche, but not for melee focused Ret. Plus my Shockadin would be upset at losing one of her main attacks.
The free Stam for Prot and free Spelldamage for Holy were coups. And the fact that the threat reduction is actually deactivated by Righteous Fury is pretty sweet. Really testing for the new CS and making Command more functional without relying on spelldamage are all I can think of for ability/talent fixes. Other than that it is all up to itemization, and that is mostly fixed if Ret can be made less MAD. It all depends on where the Sunwell 5-man wing falls in the progression for "new" gear, and then where other stuff is rebalanced in future patches.
I'd love more generally useful or low level librams, but that's the most minor of complaints.

The only problem I've got with my paladin is how protection fares in pvp when it's not AV weekend. It's not really a paladin issue though, I sure know my share of tanking warriors that'd be spending a lot less time on alts if tanking trees functioned in pvp.
Retribution is just fine, we brought them to raids before they got buffed and we still do. They are obviously not the most wanted class on a raid because they compete over few spots with all the other dps hybrids but it's certainly not impossibly. They are underrepresented compared to their rivals but for some reason it seems tied to retibution paladins being less likely sticking to their guns instead of respecing than the other dps hybrids despite not being noticeably less useful.
Once in a while you'll see a holy paladin bicker and they can do that all they want aslong as they keep healing, because they still make up a solid core of our healing power in every part of the game. ;)

The sad reality here is the blue text earns the bloke decent responses. Too often (if he were a normal "joe") he would receive abuse from other players for being a noob.
Mikezila Dec 13th 2007 2:59PM
Everyone always forgets that the "blues" are players too. They also forget that they are human beings. They do not know every nook and cranny of the game, and it is not their job to know every nook and cranny of the game.
I'm glad the thread is mostly actual discussion and not "oh my god blue is asking us questions now oh god this is an outrage que que".
