Wowhead adds new item links
My favorite database site has recently added a new feature to their item listings. When you look an item up on Wowhead.com, you'll notice a new link to the right of the item's name which says "Get in-game item link". When you click on it, a new window will pop open with some highlighted text. Simply copy the text into your in-game chat window and hit enter. You'll be given an in-game item link for the equipment you looked up on Wowhead, so you can check yourself out in the dressing room or pass the info on to another player. This is certainly a cool feature and one I'll probably play around with quite a bit. This may allow me to do away with some of the item database addons I currently use in-game. I'm already alt-tabbing out to read Wowhead all the time, so it won't be much hassle at all to copy their links into the game when necessary.
Will you be using this feature at all? What do you think about it?

That's pretty cool. I wonder though if the issue with getting d/c'd when an item has not been seen on the server still exists. Atlasloot had a warning about "unsafe" links.

That's a good question. If the rules haven't changed, links to stuff that no one on the server has will cause you problems. So yes, you'd have to be careful looking at stuff that's datamined (e.g. profession recipes), or if you're on a less progressed server and bent on spamming your /g with T6 item links. If you're feeling brave, try this not-yet-implemented tailoring recipe:

It was changed in 2.2 now if you click an unsafe link it does nothing, so you can click your atlas loot links to your hearts content.

That's an AWESOME feature. Now, when I need to check my Auctioneer for the recommended price for some item and I don't actually have one to look at in-game, I can bring the link INTO the game instead of having to bug guildies for it.

Wow! I'll totally use this! As class leader/guild officer, I get peppered with questions about gear and loot all the time..

Checkout the add-on LightHeaded as well. It modifies your quest log to include comments from Wowhead automatically. I rarely have to tab-out anymore thanks to that lovely plugin!

I second this, I don't think I've come across an addon yet that is as simple and awesome as Lightheaded:-)

Another method for item links is a mod called Linkerator. Just type the name of the item in square brackets and it will become a real item link. It even does autocompletion if you start typing the name of an item.

Just tried that item Green Armadillo brought up. What happens is that it still puts the message into the chat box with the item link, but when you click it, a tooltip never pops up and if you shift-click it to link it, it turns into plain text. Very cool.

If you link a item thats unsafe, it just wont be linkable.
You can change the script code to add enchants and stats.
Just change the first zero to the enchantID like this:
/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Shift-click this link to put into chat: \124cffa335ee\124Hitem:33688:3225:0:0:0:0:0:0\124h[Vengeful Gladiator's Greatsword]\124h\124r");
The Vengeful Gladiator's Greatsword ID is 33688, and then i changed the first zero to 3225, the Executioner enchantID.
Here's a list over the enchantIDs:

Is it me, or does this do the same as Lootlink and many other add ons? In fact, it seems more complicated if I read correctly - you have to Alt-Tab, copy and paste some text to get an in-game link? There are already numerous add ons that store in-game items for you to link to.

Yes there is, but my experience with those show that they usually suck the living crap out of your memory
Mokona Dec 4th 2007 8:44AM
Ah... great... another way for the scammers to easily access item links... I would be more cautious of enchanters now.

That sounds pretty cool! I'll try it...
