Monstrous Kaliri, how I hate thee
Some days this quest is easy, and some days I am wearing six giant birds before I get to the first patch of eggs. Much wisdom flows from my wife, she who tames transparent wolves and gets multiple instance runs the second I log off to use the bathroom. (In my defense, I really had to go.) I myself have also noticed that on some days, especially when the cooking quest calls for Giant Kaliri Wings, the run to complete Fires over Skettis is quite tolerable. On other days, I am convinced that my character must have bathed in barbeque sauce before coming out to drop bombs, because he's intensely popular with gigantic, screeching birds that live and breathe for just the chance to dismount him. Have I mentioned how often they actually manage to knock me off my mount so that I fall with six health left right in front of a wandering Talonsworn Forest-Rager? Because I love that. That sound? That's not weeping. I don't know why you would say that. My keyboard's plenty dry.
Similarly, some times I fly through the air dropping bombs on cannonballs with impunity, a god of the skies, and other days I can't move six inches without getting enough flak that my butt should be magnetic. I'm not sure what the deal is with this. I've done the quest with no one but me in the air, I've done it with the air absolutely thick with aerial bombadiers, it never seems to matter. Some days the fel cannons can't hit me if I stop in front of them, and some days I can't avoid them if I do crazy Snoopy vs. the Red Baron maneuvers. And I have come to dread the Eye of the Storm daily, as no matter what character I am on, I seem to need six matches to get that thing out of my log. But I do pretty well if it's WSG or AV, while I have guildmates who still have the AV one from last week in their logs, staring dejectedly at it.
How are the daily quests treating you? Are you doing them? Please do the cooking quests, especially the one that asks you to kill Kaliri. I don't care if you do the others or not but help a guy out here.
Edited to add: Just took my 70 draenei shaman out, and the spacebar move has either been fixed, or I was somehow doing it wrong.

As a Horde, Im flying through them. I Dont have a problem with the Birds in skettis (as soon as i get aggro i just fly straight up...they cant hit you). BG wise my guild and I are pretty hardcore PVPers so its not an issue:) Patience is the best advice!!!
SweetPoison Dec 4th 2007 12:40PM
Another typical WoW response incoming....
1.) bird aggro'd while flying
2.) hold spacebar
3.) ???????
4.) profit

i've only ever been dismounted once, and i don't even have an epic flapper yet.
i guess it's all about being excruciatingly careful.

I feel your pain with the passion of a thousand burning sun's. To be honest though I only do the Bird bombing run not the one in Skettis. Maybe it's because I see little mini turpster's awaiting to come out of those egg's that makes me want to blow them up which makes it easier. I dont know. Kidding. But, on the 60% speed mount, for me, it's just too hard to avoid the flak from the cannon's. I've tried all the suggestions but still no dice. I commend you Matt Rossi on being able to do these day in and day out!

The daily heroic and bg doesnt seem very random.. I think blizzard wants more people to visit certain instances like heroic crypts..

The more you do the bombing runs, the more you figure things out a little. You kind of get a sixth sense as to the flight patterns. I used to think it wasn't worth it to try to dodge them, but really, it is, as you can avoid detection maybe half the time but flying low under them.
If you're actually there to blow up the eggs, sometimes you have to fight. I always try to hover over the balcony with the eggs as I destroy them so I won't crash all the way to the ground.

Yeah.... I know that one all too well. Epic flyer or not, I've been dismounted once in a while, no matter which I was on. I guess there's a reason they have that Skygaurd cape though.

Of all the cooking quests, I dread the Kalari one the most. However, I have done them every day and now can cook all the rewards... including the delicious chocolate cake (and it really is delicious).

Now, when you see exclamation on minimap, the Skettis dailies are even easier to quickly be done.
With fast mount, it is ridiculously easy to avoid kaliris - just keep the space pressed and go forward - kaliri goes horizontally lol.
12 minutes and 22 g earned, plus potions. It is not so profitable as Nagrand fishing though.

Kaliri aren't too bad if you're a tank, either. With my normal 500+ defense, I'm immune to their swoops (and to daze effects in general when being hit) so I usually just ignore them while they beat on me until the rends+hamstrings get annoying enough that I spacebar away from them.
Tettra Dec 4th 2007 12:52PM
I haven't done any dailies since 2.3, don't know anything about heroic, cooking or fishing dailies. I'm not playing my main at all cause I'm leveling an alt who doesnt need a lot of gold to repairs and stuff and I'm loving it.
Those giants birds are a pain, its true you fly up or down and they stop chasing you but sometimes you dont have the time to do it, i always use the cloak you get from the shattari that allows you to fall slowly and I alway try to fly above the water before I begin with the risky 'evasion techniques'.
I like the bombing quest in BEM though, cause if u fall you can work on the banishing demons daily.
To be honest for me dailies were almost like a job, I logged only to do them, and wait for the raid. Now "Im free to do what I want any old time".

If you get aggro, simply drop your current plan and hold spacebar while going forward and aim away from others. You'll have to fly back to your original target after the aggro drops, but it's better than getting dismounted and landing unfortunately close to an elite.
Forking out the money for an epic flyer will help too. But if you're getting aggroed by *six* of them, it may be common sense that you're lacking, so, in addition to my previous advice, TRY TO AVOID THEM rather than flying directly into them.

I'm a tank so I'm dazed immune,so I don't mine flying through them.
Deldinor Dec 4th 2007 1:06PM
The solution: roll a Druid and never crater again.
Riptidez Dec 4th 2007 1:35PM
ha yes I was just going to say that... no dismounts for us!

Personally, as an herbalist mage, my least favorite of all mobs are the *Dragonmaw Ascendants*. Aggro-ing these stealthy giants is instantaneous and certain death for me, and they patrol swiftly over the 40 Netherbloom I need to aquire.
Slowfall/Blink/Sheep are all wonderful in terms of dealing with Kaliri, however.
I think, personally, the best part about the Kaliri cooking quest is that it is called
"Revenge is Tasty"
Oh how it is.
Algorithm Dec 4th 2007 1:12PM
I also forgot to mention how awesome the giants are for herbalists, and how easy they are to kill on a mage. :)
heath Dec 4th 2007 1:12PM
my mount macro has a line that equips my slowfall cape whenever i mount where its flyable for just this reason, i hate those birds....on my aggro reduc macro, i also put a line in there that activates the cape (this is my nice big '0' key on the keyboard for quick hitting), otherwise, by the time i click the correct button on my screen, i've hit the ground. it kinda gives me an 'oh crap' button.

Matt,
During the Middle Ages people would perform self flagellation because they thought that personal suffering would make them understand Christ's suffering and get them rewards in Heaven.
So... what's your excuse? I avoid the cooking quest for Kaliri like the plague.

I'm afraid my motives are far less lofty: I do it to make my wife happy. I have no idea why SHE does it. And I'm a little afraid to ask for fear I'll end up in a swamp taming an invisible duck monster.
