Bring your character home with FigurePrints

Here's some information from the site's FAQ: The data is pulled from the Armory, which makes me wonder: how do they get your appearance right? The Armory, unless I'm mistaken, doesn't include things like hairstyle and the other various customization options. The actual statuettes are built using rapid prototyping (AKA 3D printing) using vertically-stacked slices of "plaster-like powder" and then hand-finished. The scale is 1:18, which means a male human comes out about 4 inches tall, not counting the base. And the price? $99.95, plus $14.95 shipping and handling. They warn that availability is limited, and that the best way to guarantee you get one is to make an account at their site, although I wasn't able to get past the "Open December 11th" banner to actually click on anything. So how about it? Will you be lining up to pay $100 plus shipping to bring your toon out of Azeroth?

I think if I were to get one, I'd probably do it at the release of each expansion, so that I had sort of a snapshot of my character at that phase. It's just too bad that I could never have the pre-tbc one. It'd be kind of nice to have my dwarf at 1st level, in tier 2, and in whatever he'll end up TBC in...

That's pretty neat. I figured it was just a matter of time. I have been making mini sculptures of WoW characters, but it takes so much time. The machines are totally going to put me out of business.

I'm just wondering if you can order these for other people or do you have to log into your account? Currently I'm not playing, but my b/f is and I'd love to get one of his dwarven priest! My gear's not too great atm but he's still got his Benediction from pre-BC. :)

I'd love one of these for my Draenei Shaman.

Wow, opening shop two weeks before Christmas...they're going to have some crazy business on their hands. Based on the other comments in this thread, I wonder if they actually have more than one printer.
As for me, I might consider getting one for my father-in-law (with his epic gear and Mantle of Nimble Thought :P), but I'm not so sure about my characters yet...though I do wonder how they would handle my gnome's hair, with three-weird-bangs-sticking-up hairstyle.
I hope you can customize the typeface of your character's name, however. The blocky bright yellow sans-serif just looks rather lame compared to the rest of the figure. Let's get some Morpheus on there!

I'm getting one for sure. I'll just switch out a few items to my Druid's tanking set so that it'll look better together. Haha.
And for those who asked, you get to choose from a few different "epic" poses to make yourself look cooler. XD

" how do they get your appearance right?"
well if you take 2 seconds to read the site you will see there is a character creator tool where you set up your characters appearance. then it pulls your gear off the armory. do some research before you post articles and be less helpless :)

"$99.95 plus $14.95 Shipping and Handling to any address in the US and Canada."
If I can't get one in the UK I'm going to cry like a little girl. :(
Wamphyri Dec 6th 2007 9:17AM
Hopefully the "to any address in the US or Canada" refers to the shipping price only. I'm in the UK too and NEED at least one of those!

Is it just me or do the images that Nelson provided in comments 10-12 look very low in detail? Surprisingly low?

You know, the pathetic launch of their website today is not exactly encouraging. Sign up but whether or not you can order a figure is determined randomly rather than first come first serve, I can't apparently get an idea of what my character would look like without initiating an order process, and the demo version they have is nonfunctional and buggy.
There are other places to go to get character sculptures. I think I'll pass on FigurePrints

Yeah these guys clearly need a new Marketing guy. They officially launch on December 11; that's cool as it's just in time for Christmas. Or is it? 30-60 day delivery date. Are you bloody kidding me?
Then you get to enter a lottery.
Then you get to enter another lottery! And what's more, you aren't opted in automatically. You have to re-sign in and re-opt in for the next "chance to buy from us".
It's a joke.
I sure do hope a bigger player moves in and does this right. How about it McFarlane Toys? You have some of the best stuff anyway.
