Maybe I missed something, but why would Azshara be 'chill' with the blood elves?

That would be because the Blood Elves are descendants of the Quel'Dorei, those magic-addicted night elves (those that didn't turn into naga anyway). They started worshiping the sun and lost the blue/purple skin thing, and sailed away to create the Sunwell as a cheap knock-off of the Well of Eternity.
