Bugs confirmed for Cloak of Shadows and Vanish
A fairly lengthy thread on the official Bug Report forum today led to the discovery of a problem related to two Rogue skills. Cloak of Shadows and Vanish were both reported by players as simply not working. For whatever reason, rogues were unable to escape the attacks of their opponents in PvP when using these skills.Reports of problems with Vanish often plague the forums. Most often these issues are caused by client/server latency, as Hortus reminds us, but this time they've identified a separate problem. While not disclosing the nature of the bug, Hortus has informed the rogues in the thread that their feedback has resulted in the discovery of a problem with these two skills and they're currently investigating the issue in hopes of finding a fix.
It's nice to see that players are able to help contribute to fixing the game. If you've had any problems with these skills recently, I'd suggest that you read over the thread and see if your experience adds anything to the discussion.

Any chance of fixing the damn fact that pets can get you out of stealth when they start attacking you before you stealth, asif Hunters and Warlocks don't whoop butt enough...
They get rid of your main class ability just through exposing a bug which has been around since the game began.
Dont forget that NE Cat form Range bug...

Stealth and Vanish are two different things. Vanish is intended as an escape ability and pets will de-aggro you if you cast it, but Stealth is not an escape ability, so pets will stay on you.

So ? if a rogue restealths no play character can hit them, why should it be any different for pets.
Goldwolf Dec 7th 2007 8:02PM
Get our your felhunter,
Set him to aggressive,
Walk around in a Battleground...
Rogue detected! Depot DOTS!

what seems the be the problem with vanish? i was using it on my rogue when i was playing yesterday and i didnt noticed anything wrong.
Suzaku Dec 8th 2007 6:56PM
You gain Stealth.
You gain Vanish.
You lose Vanish.
You lose Stealth.
For no apparanty reason, often.

I'm glad the problem has been recognized. While I was in eots yesterday I vanished and was still blinded by another rogue and just 10 minutes later a hunters pet was still able to attack me after I vanished.
Fireflash38 Dec 7th 2007 7:21PM
Stealth != invisible. Yes, most of the time it is approximately equivalent, but if the rogue was close enough with perhaps the eng. goggles/perception he still might have been able to see you.

I'll cross my fingers that Blizz will finally make Vanish work... but once bitten, twice shy, right?
Jackie Dec 7th 2007 7:45PM
Wait a min, there's a bug in the rogue's ability to use Cloak of Shadow and Vanish, and therefore they can't use it?
I say, GOOD!. Them fuckers are overpowered anyways. it's about time they learn fight like real men and stop running out of battle whenever they're live hits 20.

NP. I'll happily give up Cloak AND Vanish if I can have Plate.
Deal? Sweet.
vlad Dec 8th 2007 2:38AM
lemme guess, your one of the 50000 boomkins us rogues 2 shot every bg :)

Cloak of instant win more like, playing a shadow priest I'd like to get an escape ability, with cloak of shadows you not only have an escape ability but also one that makes you invulnerable for 5s - long enough to take down any cloth class.
This one, er skill alone makes BGs one sided and therefore no fun for me at level 70, if rogues need an escape ability give them one, but they shouldn't be able to attack from it.
Still I'm guessing that playing rogues skilfully by surprising opponents would be beyond a significant group of the rogue population who just want to be able to charge in like warriors hence cloak of shadows.
And as for wanting plate instead, well besides the fact plate won't help you against casters, believe me I'd prefer to face plate instead, a warrior vs a plate rogue would stand more chance then a caster vs a cos rogue.

Are you seriously joking? We're rogues we're supposed to stealth and vanish and fight by keeping you off your feet. Other melee classes can get in your face without stealth because uh.... THEY'RE ALL IN PLATE AND HAVE PROBABLY 3 OR 4 TIMES THE ARMOR AND HEALTH WE HAVE. They can afford to get pounded by 3k frost bolt crits. I'm not saying make rogues wear plate but fix our stealth or something.

*hits cloak of shadows / vanish when fighting hunter, run out of range... while still under vanish buff i see the pet still coming after me.... Bite on the leg, unstealth... huntermark over head, concussion shot to the face.
gg
happens all the time
Noctuurn Dec 8th 2007 11:46AM
OK so it's not just me...
Josh Dec 7th 2007 8:51PM
@7 I never said that stealth and vanish were the same thing, but for an UD rogue w/o paranoia or the goggles able to see me and blind off no more than 2 seconds after I vanish is a bit weird no? I wasn't right up against the rogue, but close enough for him to blind me apparently.
2rugz Dec 8th 2007 11:26AM
If the blinding rogue was heavy Subtlety (i.e. has speced "Heightened Senses"), he probably had improved stealth detection and perhaps that allowed him to follow you. I have a 70 rogue speced for this and can usually spot another rogue stealthing about and get a sap in on em. That said my Vanish is busted for me ~half the time, usually with hunter pets but I've been dotted etc. as well.
And Fireflash38 is technically correct, but Vanish is improved stealth. You enter a higher "state" of stealth for a few seconds, or at least you are supposed to, then return to normal stealth after it wears off. So in theory it should be much harder to detect a recently vanished rogue vs. a regularly stealth rogue.
FYI this is from the worldofwarcraft.com encyclopedia about Vanish:
"Allows the Rogue to vanish from sight, entering an improved Stealth mode, but reducing the speed to X% of normal for Y seconds. Spellcasting against a Rogue that successfully uses Vanish will now be interrupted. Vanish breaks root and snare effects. Vanish cancels spells in progress and missiles in flight if they are being cast at the vanished player. If a DoT is active when you use Vanish, unless it is a snare as well, it will remain and break Vanish the next time it does damage. Vanish removes effects that allow the caster to always remain aware of their target (currently Hunter's Mark and Mind Vision)."

It has been said so many times. Priests and Warlocks can't be everyone's anti class. I don't know why you get all these bads complaining that cloak of shadows sucks. There is a such thing is learning how to play your class in pvp. Also, not whining about outclassing ALL classes in the game.
Suzaku Dec 8th 2007 6:56PM
Insert a bunch of people bitching about how rogue's are overpowered and are fine and l2p I'm sure.
Nice to see that Blizzard finally realized we weren't just making stuff up when we said that Vanish and Cloak of Shadows weren't working properly. Vanish fails without warning (apparantly just being in combat can trigger this), and with "lag", I suppose, it's extremely common to get auto-attacked right out of it. Cloak of Shadows often doesn't prevent any damage or remove all debuffs anymore, as it's supposed to.
That said, two weeks from now, we'll probably see the devs saying, "Working as intended".
