Alterac Valley is now awarding honor correctly
Ever since patch 2.3 dropped, there has been speculation that battlegrounds have not been awarding honor properly. Because of the confusion over how the bonus honor from the daily battleground quests are awarded, I merrily ignored such debates and popped into Alterac Valley, as well as other BGs, like nothing was happening (hey, I wanted arena season one gear). It soon became clear that at the very least, Alterac Valley was not shelling out honor as intended. You may have even noticed recently, a message delivered upon log-in, stating that the development team was currently working to resolve the issue. Fortunately, Eyonix has confirmed that the situation has been fixed and AV is once more running smoothly.
At this point, players all over the forums are requesting that honor be retroactively awarded. While I'm not sure if this is even possible, I doubt that we'll see it. Were you affected by the reduced honor, or did you not even notice? Are you seeking lost honor, or were you having fun in spite of the problem?

I haven't noticed a thing. But I'm glad they got it fixed anyway. Whatever it was ;o)

I've been addicted to AV for months now, so I was really feeling the hurt from this bug. Especially as a rogue, losing all honor from bunker caps felt like I was out of a job. I was just happy that I had binged so much lately that I already have most of the season 1/vindicator's gear that I need.

*stares at his 5/5 S1 and two S1 weapons*
So I could have done that quicker? /sigh
Maybe I'll save up for a resto and elemental set then.
Combatc87 Dec 8th 2007 11:04AM
At the rate I was going, I was supposed to have enough for my S1 Salvation along with a piece of armor (based on personal calculation). I ended up short of that (still got my Salv though). Did it really effect me? Not really. Would I like some of that honor back? You bet.

Typical wowinsider post. They just noticed after it was fixed.
Is there at least ONE poster here that knows anything about the topic they are writing on?
This started late Thursday night. 10ish pm ETS.
Basically the towers where no long giving honor when they were capped.
It took blizz until the next morning to acknowledge it. Took them until 5pm Friday to "say" they fixed it. Turned out it wasn't fixed on most realms. Finally about 6-8pm Friday it was fixed.
Some people are speculating that blizz hot fixed AV without telling anyone. Some speculate the no honor for towers was an intended change. Though blizz says the oppopsite.
I believe that they tried to hotfix the fact that if you stay in AV past when the game is up you can get honor for any tower that caps [within the 2min window before your booted out]. What weird is I noticed that once blizz fixed the tower bug. I was getting LESS honor for tower caps after the game was up than for those during the game.
I haven't verified this with other players. So check it for yourself. But perhaps blizz tried to zero out the honor for post game caps and screwed up all towers. The quick fix might have been to give us reduce honor post game.
Like I said haven't had time to verify. Check for yourself.
[Thats how you make a post. Not "something happen, oh just found out, its over. It was something about something, lol. What do you think?"
Slayblaze Dec 8th 2007 11:46AM
As many have pointed out in the past, this is a BLOG.
NOT a cutting-edge news site with up to the minute info.
Wulfhere Dec 8th 2007 12:03PM
You honestly think this inane, self-indulgent asshole rant of yours is how to do a post? "I didn't check, I didn't have time to verify"? You're making blanket statements about what Blizzard did and didn't do without any facts or any effort on your part to back it up. That's fine for an asshole making a snotty comment on a blog, but if they did that kind of shit they'd get snotty assholes making stupid comments.
Like you, in fact.
Stevie G Dec 8th 2007 1:22PM
So, it happened late on Thursday, and wasn't acknowledged by Blizzard until later Friday.
Therefore, unless the blogger was, themselves, playing Alterac all Thursday and Friday night, and going over their honor with a fine toothed comb, then it would have been awfully hard to post about it as it was happening, no?
As Slayblaze said; this is a blog. And not an "official" one at that. So considering it's not run by Blizzard, I think they do pretty darn well at keeping us up to date.
Want up-to-the minute info? Make a friend over at Activision/Vivendi and keep'em on speakerphone 24/7 while you play, all jacked up on Rockstar and Hot Pockets. But remember to be blogging everything you find out in real-time too. Gotta practice what you preach, eh?
Vort Dec 8th 2007 2:32PM
I stayed in a AV after it was over when a tower had less than a minuet to cap. Once it did I received the 65 honor pts. then left the instance.
This on on 12-7
Juneau Dec 8th 2007 3:57PM
@Stevie G, it really doesn't take "going over with a fine-toothed comb" to realise that you're getting only 100 honour max per game instead of 400 honour+, and it's also not hard to realise that it's the towers that were the problem. Seriously, a post titled "Alterac Valley is now awarding honour correctly" is next to useless without a previous post titled "Alterac towers not giving honour!".
Megalomaniac Dec 8th 2007 4:19PM
@bear: I totally agree with you. I was fully expecting wowinsider staff to wait until either (mmochamp/forum/lj) posts covered the topic in full detail OR the whole thing was fixed, although to be honest, I expected this info to show up on massively first, and then wowinsider second (in an attempt to pimp massively).
I also want to add that I'm not taking an absolutest position against Wowinsider, that is to say that I don't think they need to get everything right, all the time. I am however, increasingly critical about their poor journalistic ability. When I see 1-2 days worth of fluff posts (in all fairness there was an informative post about rogue bugs) and 0 posts on a bug that affects a large portion of wow players (lets face it, even if you aren't gearing for arenas even pve'rs are bging for s1 weapons), I question whats going on with the writers at wowinsider. They're either writing more posts (mostly fluff articles), writing on massively, or off and about with family and friends (which I support in full). The point is that they obviously aren't playing wow*, the thing which they ought to be posting on, because if they were, they would have heard about this bug an hour or so after it popped up.
*I think this really highlights how out of tune the current staff are with respect to what is currently going on in wow. How many staffers have 2300+ in all brackets? How many staffers are in BT guilds? Better yet, how many staffers are doing the full on AV s1 honor grind (I know a few play AV)? These are relevant questions because of two reasons: First off, I'm beginning to think that most of the wowinsider staff are ultra ultra casuals... practically speaking this means they lack a personal experience they can comment from. Secondly, the wowinsider staff don't always stick to fluff like "how do you feel about mongoose versus executioner", sometimes they venture into the empirical by making testable claims like mongoose is better than executioner. What I've noticed is that oftentimes, people who are more knowledgeable about game mechanics will correct the OP, who then will proceed to update their post (to not look stupid), or qualify what they said by saying "you have a valid point, this is how I like it though" (happens a lot in buildshops, but you only need to look at the comments in most posts which actually make a claim to see it). Both of these points would be moot if the staff here were journalists, but it's pretty clear as others have pointed out, that they aren't. This brings me to my final point, which is that these people get paid to run this blog. As readers, we put up with advertisements in order to keep this thing going. I would be perfectly happy if wowinsider were an advertisement free forum where everyone can post, but it isn't. Unlike a forum, the format of wowinsider demands that we give authority to it's authors, and demands that we pay them through their advertisement revenue. In short, the format of wowinsider forces them to be journalists regardless of whether or not they are merely bloggers. As such, we need to hold them accountable for being shotty journalists, when they are being shotty.

Bearback's closing statements, sad but true.
Wulfhere Dec 8th 2007 12:04PM
No, he's just a jackhole.
Juneau Dec 8th 2007 12:29PM
He may be a "jackhole", but he's right.
wowtard Dec 8th 2007 11:57AM
Confirmed that towers no longer give honor for being destroyed during the 2 minutes after the game's over.
wowtard Dec 8th 2007 12:20PM
This no-honor after game's over change just exacerbates the imbalances in the map. Most of the time both sides just rush to the general and Alliance always has an easier time of it. Horde base has no major chokepoint, very little time to suffer archer arrows before getting into the towers, and no hordes of NPCs to kill before reaching Drek. Horde on the other hand has to deal with the chokepoint of SP GY, the long bridge where the tower archers have ample time to fire on anyone trying to reach them, and a boatload of NPCs directly in front of the GY and Van. Alliance ALWAYS has this advantage and usually wins the game before horde can even cap the North and South ally bunkers.
Whoever designed the AV map years ago is a strategic retard who needs to be taken out back and shot.
stormrager51 Dec 8th 2007 12:56PM
I hardly ever do AV anymore unless it is for the daily or AV weekend. I didn't really notice because of that.
Vort Dec 8th 2007 2:21PM
Didn't even notice, I was still getting more honor running two winning AV's than any other BG even on a daily.
Bearback Dec 8th 2007 3:00PM
Your right, I should have verified it myself especially when critisizing the post. I didn't care enough.
Obviously by the voting, most people would like to read the air head fluff that is posted regularly hear over actual information about the game.
I like pink hairs gnomes But NOT green, what do you think?
There are a few good sections here, like the addon / ui review, the movie watch and occasionally an interesting perspective on a class or spec.
The vast majority is fluff crap filler. I understand filler when there is nothing new, or when realms are down and people want something, anything to read so I usually hold my tongue.
But it seems to me more and more often. Certain posters are merely hit send after slapping down the first though that pops into their mind.
Fine for a commenter, but not so for a poster. BTW, when can we vote on posts?
Bearback Dec 8th 2007 3:01PM
Also I have honor gains on my scrolling combat text, and I rarely afk in bgs. So I knew right away when something was wrong.
