Around Azeroth: A lonely boat
Intrepid reader Mike submits this shot for our perusal. If you travel along the river that runs between Ashenvale and Azshara, you will encounter this lonely boat (of Night Elf design, unless I miss my guess). What is it doing here and where might its owners have gone to? The sight of the little boat raises a number of questions that we may never find answers to! (Though am I the only one who looks at it and thinks Lord of the Rings?)

Actually there is some lore regarding this boat in the druid epic flight form quest. Druids must go to Azshara in search of power stones, or some such, and find a stone using this boat as a landmark. The former occupants were an expedition in search of these stones. As soon as you pick it up a goblin steals it away and you must chase her down the river. It is a very fun questline. :)

If you kinda...zone out on the pic after two days w/ no sleep, the water moves.

This is the boat of the missing expedition who went in search of Azsharan moonstones. It is involved in the Druid's quest for swift flight form.

Well, it's involved in the druid flight form quest now. It's been there for far longer.

Reminds me of the boat you sail around in Zelda Wind Waker, but that could just be me...

Huh... there is a similar boat on the west coast (Zoram Strand) of Ashenvale. :o

I hate that place so much. Purely on accident, I auto-ran off a cliff into the river. I figured I was pretty close to the northern edge, so it must have a place to get out at. I was wrong on both counts. I sam for half-an-hour before reaching that bloody waterfall and almost broke out in tears. I promptly took a picture, drowned myself, ran off the cliff again, drowned myself AGAIN, and never came back.

No, I think Lord of the Rings to.

Definitely part of the druid swift flight quest. Here's the quest text:
The only problem is that Southfury moonstones are exceedingly rare and known only to occur on the cliffs in northwestern Azshara, near the waterfall at the river's source.
Tragedy befell the last night elf party that set out in search of one. Their boat is still anchored in the river near where they sighted the moonstone.
