While many NPCs in our favorite virtual world are little more than set dressing -- selling things players need, offering quests, repairing gear -- others are there for no reason other than to provide a bit of color and atmosphere. The NPC Master Wood, seen in this screenshot, is located in Stormwind's Command Center and offers a variety of responses to any player who does a /rude emote to him, as demonstrated here by reader Martin. The Elite Tauren Chieftain in Silvermoon respond to /wave, /dance, /cheer. I'm not sure if they respond to anything else.

I don't have a screenshot of it, but Mountaineer Pebblebitty, in Loch Modan at the gate to Searing Gorge also has many, many responses if you do a /rude to her.

The Guardians and Royal Guards in Silvermoon City all react to a wide variety of emotes as well, with emotes of their own--no speech, though. How they react varies slightly, but I've had /salute, /wave, /kiss, and /rude (only for the Guardians) pull reactions from them.

Lady Katrina Prestor in Stormwind Keep is my personal favorite. One of the few times that you speak with her in the game, Lord Bolevar asks you to tell her this entire conversation conversation you just had, when she's two feet away. She just goes out and says, yes I heard what he said, I'm right here- I just don't care.

Then there are those that you wish did more. Whenever a character of mine of whatever Alliance race or sex is in Stormwind's Cathedral, we usually find time to toss off a /rude to Archbishop Benedictus and a /flirt to Katherine the Pure.
