World of WarCrafts: Murloc Fin Soup
Every Wednesday World of WarCrafts features a recipe that shows you how to make own real life version of in-game recipes and items. There are many "tasty" sounding things to eat in the wonderful world of WoW. I have often wondered what some of these things would taste like, others give me the willies just thinking about eating them but whatever. As a result of my wonderings I came up with this IRL version of Murloc Fin Soup. The only thing I had to work with was the in game recipe that called for Murloc Fins and Hot Spices, not even any Refreshing Spring Water! How could that be soup? Not exactly sure, but I figured that the recipe, or lack there of, gave me a bit of creative license. I hope you enjoy my IRL Murloc Fin Soup. You will find a translation key following to help you find the ingredients from your General Goods Vendor.
Murloc Fin Soup
4 chunks of Murloc meat
28 oz can of Murloc eyes
2 15oz cans Stranglethorn tomatoes
1 cup Goblin salsa
12.5 oz tomato sauce
1 cup Murloc broth
Hot spices
1 can Westfall corn
2 tbs lime juice
dash of pepper
crunchy Murloc Fins
shredded cheese and sour cream
Place all ingredients except the Murloc Fins, cheese and sour cream, in a cauldron over a low flame for 6-8 hours. 30 minutes before serving remove Murloc meat and pull it apart into bite size chunks with 2 forks. Return the meat to the cauldron and increase flame to high. Let the soup return to a boil and then serve.
To serve: place a hand full of crunchy Murloc Fins in your bowl and top with the soup. Garnish with the sour cream and cheese.

Not bad... I still need to make my "Sin City Breakfast Tacos" first though. :)

This is fantastic. I happen to know a group of gamers who would not only love the joke, but love the meal as well.
...Unfortunately, we'd probably end up breaking out the air freshener and opening all the windows for a couple of hours afterwards. Bet we could pull off a Blazing Saddles, though!

I got tell you, I have personally had this delectable dish and it is EPIIIIIC! Murloc does taste a lot like chicken.
makabak Dec 12th 2007 5:29PM
Odd, I would have thought Murloc did *not* taste like chicken. I always wondered if it would have more of a fishy taste.
Ametrine Dec 12th 2007 6:19PM
That's how freakish Murlocs ARE... they are FISH that taste like CHICKEN.

How do you guys know what murloc tastes like?
I seriously have no interest to try murloc, but I read somewhere that alligators taste like chickens so I assumed tender crocklisk meat taste like chicken....
Anyways, there's a Chinese dish that's similar to Herb Baked Eggs, and I made that to school the next day after my friend let me play on his account(and obviously, I picked up cooking skill, lalala)... It was yumm...
There are other stuffs I want to try... like... Tasty Lion Steak (sometimes, I volunteer at the zoo... do you think they will let me have some lion meat? ;) ) and turtle soup (I forgot it's exact name.. it was somewhere along the line of Soothing Turtle Bisque?)
I should pull out some recipe from WoW, huh?

Tortilla soup is amazing and wonderful for the cold winter.
As for blackened basilisk, I figure something like blackened chicken, so fairly easy to make. Although the in game recipe requires no spices.
Pretty much
------------------------------
Basilisk Meat (chicken breasts)
Hot spices (see below)
------------------------------
"BLACKENED CHICKEN BREASTS
1 tbsp. paprika
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
3/4 tsp. white pepper
3/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. oregano
1 tbsp. oil (I prefer melted butter for this)
Mix together blackened spice mix ingredients. Coat each chicken breast with about 1 tablespoon of spice mix. Grill for 10 minutes, flipping once."
Or any other variety. Above recipe, adjust spices to taste, spicier for the fire breathing troll and drunken dwarf. Less for the Undead who can't taste anyways and the prissy night elf.
Spider sausage, I might have a good Swedish potato sausage recipe that I could mock up.
Btw, great thread, sorry if it looks like I am stealing any thunder, just replying to above posts. ^^;

Oh, as a quick aside note to the above... make sure your chicken is cooked through. I guess as soon as I posted this I realized that people could try these recipes and get sick by not properly preparing them. And then some idiot would go after WoW Insider for posting them.
So make sure your food is cooked properly.

Thanks for the recipe! I'm afraid that Blackened Basilisk is one that I may not have been willing to tackle. Looks yummy!
