I agree that there should be a reasonable time frame cut off, but unless they provide a confirmation window (that shows the full stats of the item being purchased) then they are going to have to do these kinds of reimbursements. It's not giving anyone an advantage to do so.
I've known people who have purchased the wrong item who refuse to enter a ticket to get it fixed. I can't possibly imagine why.
