Happy Winter Veil's Eve!
Late tonight (or early tomorrow morning, depending how you look at it) the decorations on your server should roll out and the Feast of Winter Veil will begin in Azeroth once again. We've already seen previews of some of the new toys we'll be getting this year. We've also pondered what other changes may be unannounced this year, and we'll be able to experience everything first-hand soon.Just as a reminder, there is one item in particular that always sells well the first few days of the holiday: Small Eggs. Today's your last chance to head out to one of the lower level zones and kill a few thousand birds (or bird-like oviparous creatures) in order to make your fortune. Remember that you'll need at least five eggs yourself in order to complete the quest that creates the clamor for these items in the first place, so even if you don't wish to make a killing on the auction house, it would probably be wise to grab some eggs before the farming gets out of control. Check out Robin's earlier article for a good tip on a farming spot as well.
It might also be wise to stock up on some Deeprock Salt, since it's used to created Preserved Holly. This item can only be created via a quest that is only available during Winter Veil, so now is your chance to stock up and sell the items on the auction house at an inflated price once the holiday is over. I honestly don't recall if the salt was selling for a high price last year, but I would imagine that it would see a higher demand this year since the Holly can now be used with flying mounts.
What are you most looking forward to this year? Are you planning on being an egg and cookie magnate?

So what are the small eggs for?
Isambaard Dec 14th 2007 4:05PM
Baking cookies for greatfather winter.
onyx.ceilican Dec 14th 2007 4:05PM
you get a quest to make some cookies for Great Father Winter. If I remember right you need to make him 5 cookies and bring him a glass of milk (regular glass of milk from drink vendors).
After you bring those.. TADA quest done.
You get the recipe's for cookies and eggnog (also takes small eggs) from the Smokeywood Pastures vendors.

According to wowhead, the highest drop rate for small eggs (99% chance to drop) seems to be from dragonhawks in the eversong woods. is it possible for alliance to get there without much hassle, or will i be swarmed by guards 10 times on the way there?
Oldbear Dec 14th 2007 4:19PM
The guards may not get you, but the Horde will (if you play on a PVP server)... I love hunting Allies during the holidays.
Xeren Dec 14th 2007 4:35PM
haha, PVE suckers!
it looks like the dragonhawks are not aggressive, i'll look for ones that will actually attack me so i can aoe them down in big groups.
VincentMagius Dec 14th 2007 4:46PM
I'd probably go after the Ostrich mobs in the Draeni starting area. That way you don't have to worry about PvP. They should have a close enough drop rate and they seemed just as plentiful.

does anyone know what server time the winter veil festivities commence?
Shiianna Dec 14th 2007 5:13PM
Probably at the normal 3 or 4 roll over times, would be my guess.
Anteia Dec 14th 2007 5:19PM
Since I've already ravaged the place, I strongly recommend people head over to Darkshore if you're an alliance member and kill the moonkin there. They're in groups, die quickly, and almost every one dropped small eggs. They also have a really good respawn time. One of the other officers in my guild and I went out, and we got 100 in less than a half hour, and since we're a small guild, that was enough for all of our guildies, so they won't have to be scrambling for them. :)

I went and farmed me a few stacks of small eggs last night. The birds scattered around Westfall have a good drop rate, and (obviously I suppose) are easy as hell to kill. A single wand hit did the trick most times. One more suggestion I'll make- fill all the space you can afford in one of your banks with egg nog and gingerbread cookie recipes. I sold a bunch from last year this summer for 4g-6g each.
Xeren Dec 14th 2007 5:26PM
hmm, that probably would have been a better idea than filling up an entire bank with holiday spices and other ingredients, which is what i did, and i ended up deleting them because they sold horribly. doh.

The Fleshrippers in Westfall drop the eggs at a pretty decent rate. Spent this morning farming eggs and this evening farming salt.
Jedimonkey Dec 15th 2007 2:09AM
fleshrippers by moonbroke did it for me...110 in about 20 mins! What time does it kick off?
