PTR Warlocks gone wild
Friday afternoon when the PTR came up with the latest 2.3.2 patch, premade Warlocks had a little something extra in their stocking from Greatfather Winter. According to Jagoex at Warlock Therapy, it seems that the Warlocks' Seed of Corruption AE/DoT spell had been superbuffed to be: 2-3x, more powerful, instacast, require no mana and have a range of 60,000 yards. And if that wasn't enough, it could be cast even if the Warlock was dead. As you can imagine, hilarity ensued. As did a quick shutdown of the PTR Friday night.
When the PTRs came back up later in the evening, the spell was removed and all premade Warlocks had their talents and spell lists wiped. So not only do new Warlocks have to drop 350g to repopulate their empty spellbooks, they have to run all the quest lines to reacquire their pets. Needless to say, there aren't many premade Warlocks on the PTRs this week.
Still, it would have been fun to have seen the PvP matches before this mistake was caught.
EDIT: YouTube vid after the jump!

robodex Dec 16th 2007 11:23AM
haha, the best is the people complaining about this.
It'd be a problem if it was on, say, live realms, but it's the PTR. Suck it up and deal with it :P

I'm guessing they gave 'lock's Seed of Corruption's explosive effect rather than the base spell. Since the explosive effect is only supposed to be triggered by the game (rather than by the player) when the target takes enough damage for the SoC debuff to explode, it doesn't have those nice, balancing limitations like a reasonable max range, a global cooldown, a mana cost, and a requirement for the warlock to still be alive like normal abilities do. :-p

Just another reason to nerf locks =D

I guess that makes up for the fact that they also don't have any spells, ground mounts or PETS when you start!

lol my Orc Poxus was one of those guys that killed you while you were at that graveyard camping people...other than that I think you smacked me around the rest of the time

2x-3x more powerful? What are you smoking and where can I get some of it? Judging by the video posted by #6, it didn't do any more damage than the ones I can cast, and my lock is a newb in sub-par pre-kara gear.

True the damage wasn't much different, but the AoE was proc'ing on each tic too.

Lol, that was fun. I remember somebody was asking in trade or general or something why the auctioneers kept dying randomly. I believe the response was "OMG MAYGAHBUF SOC!!1", or something along those lines. I guess the name I chose for my premade Lock was fitting (Omgtotallyop)...
Verit Dec 16th 2007 2:30PM
Lol - they should be soc sniped a new term :). (and make this change live asap!)

SJPadbury Dec 16th 2007 4:37PM
Aw, man, I was going to use this as a try-out of end-game warlocks before I leveled one all the way up. Oh well.
Nevermind Dec 17th 2007 3:46AM
