Breakfast Topic: Best boss fight
Straight from the forums: What's the best boss fight in the game?Personally, having been up through Gruul, I remain a big fan of Jeklik in Zul'Gurub-- it's got just the right mix of old fashioned tanking, AoE, and (eventually) all-out chaos that a great boss battle should have. People are saying that C'thun is a classic, but like most players, I've never had the chance to see him. In terms of five-man bosses, the quality on those really jumped up in Outland. I'd say Heroic Capacitus is fun, with the positive/negative mechanic borrowed from Thaddius. And Sepethrea's little Tron room in the Mechanar is a good time, too.
But I'm probably forgetting quite a few good ones. What is the best boss fight in the game?

I would have to go with C'thun. It will be a way common answer but, yeah, the fight was a lot of fun and saved AQ from being completely horrible.

I was never lucky enough to get to C'thun but i think that Vaelastrasz aka Vael was one of the funnest fights in the game, probably one of the only ones you can pull aggro from healing :P

I remain a fan of the Nefarian fight in Black Wing Lair to this day. It was such a wonderfully built fight that required a lot of class knowledge and work from my two favorite classes.
The mages had to dps, decurse and be ready to AoE. Never a dull moment.
The Paladins had to heal, off-tank (if not enough warriors for phase 1), AoE nuke (skeltons), Decurse and BoP the mages on their AoE phase.
I just loved it when that fight went off without a hitch.
In the small content I must say I enjoy the entirety of Dark Portal for some reason. But my favorite 5-man boss fight is the Stairs fight in ZF.

Raid Boss....Favorite raid fight, Razorgore (as a kiting warrior) tied with Vael (as a tanking warrior, 2nd in line). Nothing compares to the fun of kiting 20+ mobs around the room, except maybe the intense adrenaline of tanking Vael, and having the entire raiding hinging upon your successful transition (no threatmeters allowed, scrubs).
As for 20 man bosses...I would have to say the final boss of AQ20 was a blast to tank although somewhat unpredictable.
I didn't think any KZ bosses were that great, had fun with the Opera event.
5 man boss...thats a tougher one as so many of them are tank & spank fights. Possibly 3rd boss SLabs, dps tank all the way.

Not being a raider due to family and real life time commitments, I can't comment on any of the raid bosses.*
However, I do admit that the bosses in outlands are fun--once you figure out what the heck they are doing and how to get around it. I remember as a newly minted lvl 60 (I hit 60 just a mere two weeks or so before BC came out), my wife, brother and a few friends went to --drum roll--Ramparts! We were completely undergeared, but still had a lot of fun--until we hit the second boss that is. He just threw us for a loop. We wiped on him about 8 times until the whole instance respawned on us. We finally called it quits.
A few days, and slightly better gear later we tried again. Similar results.
A few more days and a few more levels later, we tried again. Got to the third and final bosses. Boy, that fight was a PAIN.
Wipes galore, his aoe fire attack was a pain, etc. Many wipes later we again called it quits.
Next day, my wife and I and a friend (and some guildies of his) who was 70 and already decked in uber leet epix** helped us*** and we completed the instance.
Finally.
What a pain. :(
What fun! :)
How frustrating. :(
How exciting! : )
Is this what raiding is like, just on a larger scale?
I admit, that this was my first encounter with a boss fight that was not a tank-n-spank fight, so it really through us for a loop. I have since learned to know what to look for, and have really enjoyed the other boss fights I have done in outlands.
But on the whole, my vote for Best Boss fight is torn--it has got to be either Hogger or Van Cleef. I'll never forget him and the first time we whooped his sorry excuse of a professional pirate.

* the only raids I have been able to do were a PUG of ZG and that only lasted through one boss (which was fun) and a couple of Ubers Pugs which were also a lot of fun.
**yeah right
***i.e. ran us through the instance... lol

Onyxia. 40 of your friends, a big nasty dragon, and "whelps! Handle them!". What could be better?

Kael'thas :)

Without a doubt, the married couple in Arcatraz. Ladies first of course. The commentary alone makes it a memorable fight.

I agree... there is some hilarious side-comments on some bosses that really add a lot of charm.
Prime example, and perhaps my favorite, although if you're under 25, you probably wouldn't get it.
I love when Andorov says the following in AQ:
"Remember, Rajaxx, when I said I'd kill you last? I lied..."
Arnold in Commando FTW!

Sorry if this ends up being multi-posted, but my internet's behaving oddly.
Anyways, Vaelastrasz for life.

Dragonhawk boss in Zul'Aman hands down. Three is strategy and coordination involved, it will push your CC and healing to the edge and every once in a while your whole screen will blow the F up as explodey eggs get lobbed everywhere.

Anub'Rekhan is my favorite of all time.. I would have to say because one night he kept getting bugged and would go back to 100% health.. it ended up being a 30 min fight.. good time and good laughs..

Lady Vashj in SSC. Phase 2 is just crazy, I love it to bits - tanks running around grabbing naga and pulling them into the middle while giant striders are kited around the outside and on the very edge four guys are killing a constant stream of elementals, watching for that precious Tainted spawn... then the "to you! to me!" sequence as the Core is thrown to the shield generators - beautiful. Throughout this, everyone is doing constant maximum DPS to try and stay ahead of the spawns. And phase 3 is a suitably frantic way to end the fight.
Wizard of Oz at the Karazhan opera is similarly fun.

The best fight I've come across so far is definitely Kael. Just the complexity and duration alone make it truly epic; add in that awesome phase 4 - 5 transition cutscene and it's easily the best in the game (haven't seen Illidan yet, though).
Pre-bc C'Thun and Thaddius were my favs.
Muu Dec 19th 2007 8:45AM
Funnest? Id say its a toss up. First, any of the outdoor dragons, because at any time pvp could break out and make the fight harder *or* wipe the group. Racing other guilds to first kills when they popped was fun as well. And second, Heigan the Unclean in Naxxramas, the "dance" boss as some people called him. It was really fun to watch guildies who couldn't dance properly and watch as green slime would splash up and kill them.
Craziest? C'Thun because it took 40 people (or whoever was left), a lot of teamwork and coordination to pull it off.
Personally, the best boss fight so far has to be Illidan. Although not many people have seen him, the fight is very fun, and can be quite difficult if you don't have excellent communication (parasites >_>). Also, he drops some of the best loot so the payoff is great. :)
