Tales from the Lion's Pride Inn: The warehouse

Welcome back! I have the next page in the tale ready for you to enjoy! I really like the art in this one -- I played around with a different style of lighting that I think lends itself well to this scene, and I think you'll like it.
The story continues this week as we follow our new rain-soaked friend into her makeshift home on the docks of Menethil Harbor. Unfortunately, her abandoned warehouse may hide more than it appears... click the gallery below to view the new page and find out!

Wow, never thought I'd find myself enjoying it as much as I have so far. Very nice work and detail. Keep up the wonderful work, looking forward to the next pages.

VERY impressive work. If only interaction in the real game were half as engaging as in your story.
For that matter, I think the world design team at Blizzard could take a few tips from your improvements on basic locations and weather choices.
Great sense of volume on the interiors. The last page was a little _too_ dark though - objects that the light falls on would have the side facing the lamp lit up, right? And thus be slightly better defined.
But that's just nitpicking. I had never bothered to look at this feature before, but having taken a look, I'll be sure to always watch for tales from the Lion's Pride inn.

Thank you, I appreciate the compliment. :)
The darkness of the page was something I worried about -- I did design everything on an LCD monitor, which tends to be brighter, but I looked at it on a few different computers and tried to compromise. Unfortunately, I think it's just going to be on the dark side for some people depending on their monitor.
As for the lighting, I can only say that I will get better at it as it goes. All of the lighting effects are done by hand in Photoshop, based on a roughly lit 3d model I create of each scene for reference. That said, I don't think it's too bad, but there's room for improvement so I'll continue to work on it.
Thanks for reading! Tell your friends. ;)

Heh -- I don't actually have any plans to reveal it in the course of the story, but as an interesting aside I named that cat Ishnu.
Fans of the Darnassian language might get a laugh at seeing a black cat named "Ishnu." ;)

I agree! I think there should be Paypal donations to get another person on payroll to help you out and churn out these pages quicker! :)
Keep up the great work, and I hope to see this as a continuing feature for a long time. There are many tales to be told, I'm sure!
P.S. As a former Gnome Rogue, myself, from way back in November '04... I'd love to see a short (pardon the pun) tale on the "fall" of Gnomeregan.

I saw that you mentioned that you do the lighting effects with photoshop (assumed that's what you were using due to the look) and you use a 3d model for the characters. Without giving away any "trade secrets" what 3d model program are you using? Just WoW Model Viewer? And what are you using for the screen caps of the backgrounds? Everything looks very rich and crisp.
I love the way you've done subtle changes to items that you don't see in game that makes this much more engaging than the average graphic novel based on WoW.

At the moment, I'm just using WoW Model Viewer and/or the Map Viewer for both the characters and the backgrounds. And really, that's all I have plans for. While it is possible to export out the model to a real 3d program, the amount of time required to rig it for animation (and then actually animate it) isn't worth it.
The bulk of the work goes on in Photoshop, compositing the characters into the backgrounds, fixing the color, adding little changes here and there.
I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! I'm certainly having fun writing and creating it. :-)

Excellent work. Keep it up. It reminds of the old SWG comic one of the sites ran. Except this one is already quite a bit better. I look forward to reading the next chapter.
