Blizzard planning an official podcast in 2008
According to the official StarCraft II forums, Blizzard is going to enter of the world of official podcasting-- BlizzCast is set to take off sometime, we're told, around January 2008, which, I believe, makes this the first time Blizzard has ever guessed at a release date for one of their upcoming projects! Write it in the history books! All kidding aside, it should definitely be something to set your iTunes for-- there'll be interviews with Samwise Didier and Jeff Kaplan, and supposedly "a sweepstakes/giveaway and LOTS of SWAG." Swag, you say? Sounds enticing.Of course, this will be an official podcast, so while it'll definitely be a good listen, it probably shouldn't replace that other Warcraft podcast in your diet. But hopefully, if Blizzard does it right, the podcast will be another outlet for them to share not only news and hints about upcoming content, but make several issues and questions clear for the player audience at large. Can't wait to hear what they come up with-- sounds like it'll be a fun addition to their website in the new year.

Well the Instance's podcast is on the Zune Marketplace, I would think WoWinsider would want in on that free advertising action.

Well I am not going to hold my breath. Things like this have a habit of disappearing fast. Also because this is going to be an in-house podcast I think it will end up as more of an infomercial. I doubt it will be 100% WoW either but that's cool.
This will certainly not replace other podcasts as they will still be able to comment on Blizzards actions in a way that Blizzard employees can't speculation on future content and even critical views will probably be avoided by the official cast unless it's referring to old content which even the top developers criticise.
I hope they keep it regular even if its a once every 3 months thing or once a month. I doubt it would be a weekly cast as that kind of schedule is a killer. If it had the content of the EU WoW weekly they might find enough material to fill a half hour or so but this seems bigger so it suggests a bigger gap between casts.

I hope it is better then the Sony one they did for Everquest and all the other games they had. They just sounded bored to be there.

Hopefully this'll be a good source for new information and plenty of statements to dissect. Here's hoping it'll be a little more than mere one-sided promotion and advertising :)

I like the sound of interviews :( but it not going to be anything exclusive or we don't already know thorough the other various channels of information we already have.

Yeah, this /TOTALLY/ isn't another bullet on Warcraft's big list o' Warhammer ripoffs...

Haha, if you'd played the beta you'd realize just how much of a ridiculous statement that was. A good number of the character classes in WAR are carbon copies of WoW's, the combat system is identical, as are the quests. Right now all it's got going for it in beta is the RvR (which as of writing is not active so I haven't got to test it) and the rich background fluff.

I thought Warhammer was running into financial problems.

Instead of putting out a podcast, why don't they spend that time coding the next expansion?!?! What? The podcast might not be done by the developers, you say? Well, then what good is it? Who wants to hear a bunch of VPs and Managers go on and on about how they want you to keep playing??
Liel Dec 25th 2007 10:19AM
I like some podcasts especially the Instance because it is done by adults and reminds me that unlike the forums not all WoW players are ranting 14 year olds.
Morlock Dec 25th 2007 11:33PM
i donno. on the one hand, i'll be putting this on my download list next to your show, and to a lesser extent, the instance. but on the other hand what are they going to talk about? theyc an't rally guess as to what is going on, they can't preview a ton of stuff on a podcast...i guess it'll just be as someone else said - an infomercial.
