Breakfast Topic: If druids could shapeshift into anything...
What would it be? If you asked me this question a year or two ago, I certainly wouldn't have thought of moonkins and trees! Certainly a bird form would have popped into my mind, but other than that, I might have also thought of keepers of the grove, dryads, and possibly some sort of tauren equivalent (maybe something like a Liontaur!)A new expansion is coming up, along with new talents and new abilities for the druid class. Who's to say one of them isn't a new form of some sort? Speaking both from a practical standpoint and also based on your wildest dreams (or nightmares), what sort of forms do you hope druids could learn in the future?

i think a new form would be great especially for the feral specs i mean come on resto has tree balance has moonkin why not give a special form for the class that is all about being in forms. i liked the serpent idea and spider ideas the spider could be a poison based cc form with like dot effects and it could move at 25 percent speed increese and clime om wall. the serpent could be a a form that can like bind enemies and poison them slowly and a crazy strike ablilty would be cool and a tail rattle ability could reduse its threat

TURN INTO OTHER RACES! =D

I dont think that I would want to see a new form as such but I do think that Druids that have gone the feral route should have cat and Bear forms that look bigger and meaner than the normal ones.

How about epic travel form. I'd love to run keep up to other epic mounts as a cheetah!
Verit Dec 29th 2007 9:37AM
They probably don't do this for pvp balance. Plus you can shift into travel form in combat - you can't shift into swift flight form in combat :(.

A giraffe, to see above things, or attack say, the horde standing on top of the Goldshire buildings.
A mouse, to be used in the same way as the engineering trinket World Enlarger. Put some distance between you and anymore not that friendly. It could be a tiny bird for lvl70.
A pet sized cat, so that if you are within the proximity of a player of the opposite faction, the NPCs dont attack you.

Well, Keeper of the Grove and Dryad forms seem to be going just a little too far to me, since those are more like the offspring of demigods than beasts (and are considered humanoids in-game, quite unlike other Druid forms).
That said, there are two unaccounted druid groups, the Druids of the Antler and the Druids of the Fang. The Druids of the Antler are said to follow Malorne and would, of course, transform into stags. The Druids of the Fang are an outcast group which, as I'm sure many of you have experienced, turn into snakes.
The problem with new forms, though, is what their purpose would be. Druids already have pretty much all their bases covered in terms of playstyles, so apart from some sort of new utility form, it's hard to make suggestions.
On the other hand, I could certainly see some Wrath-themed form changes, such as Polar Bear Form or Snow Leopard Form.

I would kill to be able to turn into a freakin' snake!!
ReverendGadgetBoy Dec 29th 2007 3:23PM
My vote is a snake form that works sort of like a warlock (minus the pet of course). Seems to me like it could be pretty cool.

I have always wanted to be a gnome druid. Cat form would have to be something like a Silver Tabby of course..
Ah but back to the point; I would like to see druids gain an improved travel form for land speed and extra graphic options for their current forms. I'm sure druids everywhere are terribly bored with the current looks of things (just as I, a warlock, am terribly bored with the graphics for my demons.)

I like the idea of the WoLK specific forms, ie Polar Bears and Snow Kitties (and make the swimming form a Snow Chicken ...aka Penguin)..
However, I'd like to see Hybrid Forms, almost like the bosses from ZA (Hallazi the cat headed humanoid andthe bear dude who's name I can't spell) or a worgan type... even Furbolg form. These could be combinations of caster/melee forms for the druid, allow varients of their playstyle.
For example, the hybrid bear (call it the furbolg of doom) could wear the armor like the druid caster form, have some improved stats to it's HP and armor but not as much as Dire Bear form... and be given mana using abilities, the ability to use healthstones and pots and the like... things that the bear form can't do currently. Let it use it's weapons dps.
I'm sure that Blizz will come up with something... honestly tho, I'm waiting for new shapeshifts for the Shammy :) Ghost Devilsaur form plx Blizz?

We call that form Moonkin form. Try it out, it's a blast.

Gorilla or monkey would be ace

A few friends and I have been tossing around ideas about what a putative Draenei druid would be able to shapeshift into - not necessarily new functions, but new forms.
The Broken druids in Zangarmarsh have a Roc form, basically a non-flying bird shape, that appears to take the place of Bear form. Other forms for Draenei druids - and others who wished to follow the Draenor path - might be Fen Strider to replace Cat form, Talbuk for travel form, Frenzy for Aquatic form, Clefthoof or Basilisk for Dire Bear form, and perhaps Sporebat for flight form.

No new forms, just artistic changes to what is already there...
Swim form for Night Elves should be more dolphin, less walrus.(why is it that my 110 pound elf transforms into an 800 pound walrus, and this is supposed to help things?)
Travel form for Tauren should be something like an antelope.
Travel form for Night Elves should look like a sleeker form of Cat form.
The Druids of the Antler and Druids of the Fang were mentioned above. I suppose these would be cool. But, I can't see any viability behind Stag form(aside for tauren travel), and the only thing I can see Viper form doing is an alternative to druid feral dps. This time, stacked with poisons instead of bleeds, and not really that interesting.
Ametrine Dec 29th 2007 10:25AM
New forms? They need to finish working on what they already have.
I mean, even ignoring the slackjawed imbecile that is the Tauren catform, the Travel Form has been the placeholder "cheetah" graphic since post-beta, even though it was meant to be a stag - I mean, the icon for the form is a deer's hoofprint, for Elune's sake!
Before they consider adding new stuff, they need to finish what's already on their plates.

I does seem logical if we have epic flight forms to have and epic travel form too. Personally I'd love to be able to turn into a dragon, a nice combo of tank/flight with the added bonus of +fire damage!
TheMinority Dec 29th 2007 10:49AM
I'd love to see a new druid form! My suggestion is a wolf form. They're a mix of a buffs, CC, and moderate dps. Their dps would be kept low enough so as to not overshadow mages but would be kept high enough to not be the laughing stock of the WoW community.
"But TheMinority, druids already haaaaaaaave all that stuff you don't neeeeeeeed another form!"
And we don't neeeeeeed the deathknight, but it's on it's way.
I think the wolf form should be a completely new style of play as well, one that WoW really lacks: true support. The wolf form would be able to cast short duration buffs on everyone using a style of casting similar to howling in Twilight Princess. Each howl creates a type of combo point, and those points, once filled and in the correct order, will be converted into a short but powerful buff. They would also be able to summon a pack of wolves to act as dps. While this pack is active, the player cannot physically do damage themselves and must focus on howling to buff it's party members and keep it's pack healed/dpsing. While the pack is inactive, however, the wolf form can do moderate dps and perhaps one/two CC abilities such as a stun or slow.
Another benefit would be the ability for the wolf's pack to CC a mob by tanking it. They wouldn't be able to last too long, but be able to tank similar to a hunter's pet.
Since it is just a support class can can't do the uber dps critzorz that so many people are horny for, it would be a rare but welcome addition to any group. Parties would be more than a tank, healer, and three hunters. LF support, anyone?

I have a better idea (or worse, you pick). How about letting druids train to be certain animals. It would work pretty much like Hunters training their pets. A druid would walk up and "train" for a certain amount of time, then the druid could turn into that form. You could have different roles I guess, one for tanking, one for roguing (if that's a word), one for healing, and one for flying, although I have no idea what animals you could "train" for healing and flying. Even if your stats didn't change, the cosmetic difference would mean a lot. I HATE the druid bear form. IMO it looks like a retarded hippy bear on crack.
