Obviously a healer (priest, or shammy does a good job too), and a tank (warrior, druid), and then in 5 man groups we usually have a warlock (for pure dps, and to help with adds and general crowd control), and two randoms, a 2nd healer or tank would be great, but anything will do, a mage, rogue, hunter, etc...
Pretty boring really.....but boring makes the job easy so hey....

Paladin tank?
ShuManFu Jan 3rd 2008 12:15PM
Why do u need CC?
The perfect group for 5 mans is....
Pally tank..
Pally healer..
and 3 ret pallys..

Why do so many people discriminate against rogues online? I never have a problem joining a group or running an instance. I always sap well and lead in the damage meters. Sure I can't do much else, but why isn't that good enough for everybody else. I've been in plenty of groups where it was a bad healer, bad tank that made us wipe. But never the rogue (Although I ALMOST did once, but not because I was a rogue, but because it was my first run and didn't know what was going on).
Rogues need more lovin'.

The real problem is, there always seems to be five rogues looking to run the same instance. It's nothing against rogues, but you can't bring five of them to the instance, you need tanks, healers, etc. Ranged DPS is easier in most instances to heal, so while one rogue in a group is lovely, more than that can often be a strain on the healers.
At least rogues have a good form of reliable CC. They win out over enhancement shammies, fury warriors, ret paladins when it comes down to 'who to bring' in most cases.

I also think it's odd because as a feral druid I usually get picked over rogues for DPS slots. They don't expect me to tank and the feral aura isn't THAT good, so why do you think I'm picked over rogues?

5-Man:
Feral Druid Tank
Fire mage
Paladin healer
Hunter
Rogue
Just my 2-cents.

5man depends a lot on the instance... but a general setup which works in most instances are:
Warrior or Druid tank
Pally healer
Priest as dps and possible offheal and divine intervetion target if we're heading for a wipe
Mage
Hunter if warrior tank, rogue if druid

in 5 mans nothing can beat
paladin prot tank
holy priest
2 fire mages
1 warlock
get the tank to consecrate the ground, build up some agro then unleash the combined aoe power of 3 locks/mages and wipe 10+ elites at a time. also very handy crowd control if things go pete tong.

For 5 mans:
Pally tank (makes multi-mob pulls SO much easier, plus provides blessings)
Fire mage (sheepy sheep sheep)
resto shaman (earth shield + totems)
combat rogue (sap + high DPS)
Affliction warlock (great DPS + CC + AoE)
gumphood24 Jan 3rd 2008 8:35AM
5 Man -
Warrior Tank (Most Versitile Tank, fast pulls)
Paladin Healer (Best 5 Man Healer)
Shadow Priest (Mana Regen and AoE healing when needed, support and direct damage)
Warlock (CC, Shadow Priest Synergy, and High DPS)
Hunter (Good range control, CC, High DPS)
(One could argue a great mage in for the hunter, but I'm a big fan of the misdirects and agro wipes of a hunter)

Lol no mention of a warrior in the above posts *sniff sniff*. I've been in a few groups where i've thought "oh no, this isn't going to work". But i gave the group a chance and it's paid off big time. Best combination i've had so far in heroics are as follows: Druid tank, two hunters, Priest & me "dps warrior". Completed every heroic we entered and i managed to get enough nethers in that run to complete my Lionheart Champion :)

5-Man
Bear (Druid)
Healadin (Pally)
McSneaky (Rogue)
Lockstar (Lock)

h8rain Jan 3rd 2008 11:30AM
I am going to agree with you on that one (every group should have a druid :)
Safety Dancer Jan 3rd 2008 11:48AM
I am kinda bias on that subject tho, I have a rogue and a druid :P.
Mad Cow Jan 3rd 2008 8:40AM

I like to run my shammy with a priest, a druid, a pally, and a mage. Makes for a fun mix of stuff flying around. The priest, pally, and mage do pretty much the same thing all the time. Druid tanks/heals and shammy secondary tanks, heals, and mops up runners... works well for me! :)
puddlejumper Jan 3rd 2008 8:43AM
EVERYONE LOVES THE FIRE MAGE
THATS ME
PUDDLEJUMPER
William Jan 3rd 2008 8:45AM
Or you could just go with 5 warlocks, since they're overpowered anyway... lol... just kidding. I only wanted to poke fun... :P
