Breakfast Topic: Attractive men
Here's a question for all the female WoW gamers out there: are any male models in the game that you consider to be attractive? We often talk about how very appealing some (though not all) of the female models are to men, but when it comes to male models, the Blizzard art team doesn't seem to be going after the "appeals to the ladies" look at all. Apparently afraid that the males will look too much like "pretty boys," they tend to strive for that gruff "I'm gonna kill ya, sucka!" attitude many male gamers seem to love -- the more monstrous and intimidating, the better. Indeed, although the most "attractive" of all the males in Azeroth are probably supposed to be the blood elves, I have never once heard a woman say, "that elf is handsome!"And yet in my travels through Azeroth, I have observed such remarks as "I think Tauren butts look cute," and "You! Human male! You have a cute nose!" ... though that latter one was probably said in jest. Human male noses look like they've been hit with a shovel. Many times.
So... are there any male characters in the game which actually appeal to the ladies somewhat? If not the whole model, perhaps some parts of it? The tree-trunk sized wrists, perhaps? Or the barn-sized shoulders? How about the permanent frowns and rugged scowls men wear all the time? Anything at all?

ok, first off to MightyIdle saying...
Have you seen a good portion of male gamers? Taller, leaner is a bit of a stretch. If we want realism, fat, dumpy, bearded, and covered in Cheeto residue would be the most accurate.
im 6'5, and weigh about 210, so im tall, and somewhat lean, probably closer to skinny, but yea, and im 19 so i have beard, and since im skinny, i have no cheeto residue, and i dont look dorky
and to Cap saying... Haha! The female models are way more unrealistic than the males. No girl could get that buff while keeping so thin (have you seen the female bodybuilders?).
first off, not all female characters are tall and good looking, like the dwarf, or the gnome, tauren, etc. 2nd, the only way a real life female that works out can look like a bodybuilder, is if they take steroids, because the fact is that it takes testosterone to build muscle, which is a male hormone, which is also y female bodybuilders look like big bough males, with long hair, so neither of you have any idea what your talking about

good point, man

I'm a girl gamer and I love my BE male's ass. I wish they'd kept them the slimmer model originally intended.
Troll men are pretty dang hot too.

The male human body types in WoW are just unrealistic. I would have to spend four hours a day in the gym to achieve that body type. The big buff archtype is part of fantasy lore but I just wish we had taller leaner human male models that resembled men in real life. So I choose to play a female human paladin instead. At least they look like real women.

Knights probably did look fairly close to the human male models. Just because a lot of modern males work 40 hours a week at a desk doesn't mean fantasy characters should look like them. Someone that spends hours a day swinging a two-handed sword or a sword and shield while wearing plate mail are going to be ripped. In WoW the characters spend more than half their time fighting, they should have bigger muscles than they already do.

But ya, there's no way I can ever look like my toon... except maybe the undead one..... when I'm dead.

Do your WoW characters sit on the couch and watch TV all day? Mine swing around huge weapons, traverse daunting landscapes, battle with monsters for hours on end... all while wearing heavy armor. So it's not as surprising to me when my characters are physically 'buff'
Zakk Jan 4th 2008 3:41PM
George, it really doesn't take that much work to look like a Human male model. As long as you're consistent with your exercises (which a man who's chosen to swing a heavy sword and wear plate armor for a living most definitely would be), it would take less than 4 hours a week of lifting to look like that. Sure, it's not gonna happen in a week, but the point is that it's 100% possible to look like that (and better) with really only a decent amount of effort.

Nightelf male: looks like he is smuggling razorblades in his armpits.
Draenei male: Nightelf male 2.0
Dwarf male: beards on legs. *eeeew*
Gnome male: ridiculous
Human male: Shovelface. Looks like a slobbering idiot
Orc male: The Hunchback of Notre Grimmar
Troll male: would look awesome without the permanent slouch
Tauren male: furry beefcake ftl
Undead male: I don't really have to write anything here, do I? *yech*
Bloodelf male: *raaaaawwwwwwrrrrrrrr*
Magelet Jan 4th 2008 10:35PM
I totally agree with Mel, though some of the humans can look alright-ish. Night elves are just weird. Anyone ever seen a guy with that slim- a -waist matched with those broad sholders?
Just saying.
Tolls are awesome, but not in a *drool* way.
As a girl, i would much rather look at female chars then male.
mike Feb 3rd 2008 11:47PM
i second what mel said, except that nightelves look freaking awesome, and bloodelves look more normal, tall and skinny, and im straight, so if you wanna hook up sometime on wow mel, let me know, just reply to this, and ill get an email ;)

Agree completely with Mel (#2)! Well said...
If it wasn't for that hump-back/hunch thing that's going on, male trolls would be the bomb fo-sure.
But yeah, raawwrr on the male belfs. They can ask me to the dance any day of the week ;).
Saphia Jan 4th 2008 1:00PM
I was thinking the same thing. Male trolls are the best looking except I wish they'd learn to stand up straight.

Imagine If the Post was "Attractive Women", think of all the outrage you would get from women... Rightly so... Body models in all computer/video games are man made and idealized... We live in a time when everything is suposed to be "sexy" according to Media/Hipsters/etc... I won't Rant on about this....

I wish they'd have kept the original design for the BE. Blizzard used the old "It needs to fit into our design philosophy" excuse when they made the change to the beefier BE but they didn't take the same "philosophy" when it came to the BE female. "They're so thin because they're addicted to magic."
The males are addicted also, yes? They fit an excuse to their argument. The "design philosophy" was that men wouldn't have wanted to play a thin, frail-looking avatar.
I miss the thin one. It was better and fit the race much better also. I thought that the idea of "I may be dandy but I'll kick your ass" was a good one and fits the females but, alas, Blizzard has to cater to the lowest common denominator too often.

Ok, I know this is going to sounds odd, but SOME of the gnome males are pretty cute. Now maybe this is just because my husband was able to design a gnome rogue whose face ACTUALLY looks a little like him, complete with the pinchable cheeks. :)
As to Belf males? Puh-Lease! Come on gals, we all know guys that look like that are about as common as women who actually look like the belf or human female models. And really, who wants a guy who's going to spend as much time fixing their hair as you do?
Cribley Jan 4th 2008 8:51AM
I want my warlock to be emaciated, because he never eats or drinks.
And by that logic, my rogue should be obese. Now that would be something.
Carolyn Jan 4th 2008 8:58AM
Honsestly, I don't care for the blood elves at all. I haven't really sat and looked at each of the characters that much, except the ones I create and I haven't created any male ones. I look at the peeps gear. I dont really look at the toon itself. A taurens butt, huh? Hmmm, gonna have to look now! LOL
ThorinII Jan 4th 2008 8:57AM
I am male, but have both male and female toons. I do find myself making fun of the male BE I have. "He's a pretty boy with a dainty little hop." He does not jump, and the twist he occasionally does just adds to it. "Not the face, not the face." I'm not on an RP server, but I do tend to "RP" in TS with this toon. Get lots of laughs doing it too.
I'd have to say Blizz did make BE's more attractive than the other races. Male and female alike. It's all about marketing, though.
