The mount lowdown
From the day your character learns about his or her history and steps onto the sands and soils of Azeroth, there is one thing that every player has in their sights; a sweet ride. If you're wondering how to get one, or which to get, there are several guides out there that are worth a look. Ten Ton Hammer just released a guide to the mounts of World of Warcraft. Although it sadly lacks screenshots, it provides an excellent summary of the mounted experience.
Here is what you will get:
- Speed information
- Skill level and cost breakdowns
- Mount restriction details
- Lists and locations of faction-only mounts
- Reputation and discounts available
- Class-specific mount information
- The low-down on mounts that are obtained through the Trading Card Game.
Although, if you are looking to find specific information about the reputation grinds and drop rates on various rare mounts, neither guide will suffice. For the truly in-depth, expert knowledge, I recommend taking some time (up to a few hours) perusing Wowwiki's mount pages.

"Sabre Cats (Darnassus) - Ridable by Dwarf, Gnome, Human, Night Elf"
eh... draenei?

kind of a lame guide :P

I agree totally
The "basic" info
http://www.wowwiki.com/Mounts
is way more complete...

Fun fact... if you have a Riding Turtle, and you use either Fresh Holly or Preserved Holly on it... it turns into a Reindeer just like the other mounts... *and* gains a speedboost as if the Reindeer were spawned from a lvl 40 mount!

oh what I'd do to have an AQ battletank mount for my characters

One thing that a lot of these guides miss are the exact locations of the mount vendors. I mean, saying that rams are buyable at Ironforge helps no one - they're actually well away from Ironforge the city in Dun Morogh. And saying that you can buy horses in Stormwind is just stupid - there are a few different places where you can buy them, but none of those are in SW.

In fact, only one of the three could be considered close to SW, and it's probably faster to fly to Redridge then walk back to the logging camp. I also remember having to ask my guildies where to *train* riding when my first human hit 40. Wow, that was a long time ago..

That information was quite basic.
and for the "lowdown" on mounts, the biggest thing to include would be information about Mount Speed Enchancement such as riding crops.
You would not believe how many people believe 10% speed on a riding crop is a flat 10%... ffs its +20% on an Epic Land Mount and +38% speed on an Epic Flying Mount.

Interesting... I learned more from the insightful comments than from the crappy article. I hope you don't get paid for writing that. If you do, give the money to... well, anyone of the above commenters.

This is kinda of a lame guide. It doesn't mention any faction mounts like netherdrake, skyguard, or any instance drops like the mounts from ZG, ZA, Karazhan and UD Strat.
In fact - wowwiki has a mount guide that has all info on these mounts :).

Wow! This is the most incomplete guide I have ever seen. Good work wowinsider, try actually reading the guides before you post about them.
Satarus Jan 7th 2008 12:21PM
Lame guide. Also doesn't tell you that druids get free normal flying training at level 68 when they train Flight Form.
Now if only it included the faction mounts and rare drop mounts it would be worthwhile.
