Breakfast Topics: How many guilds are you split between?
When World of Warcraft launched, my EverQuest guild immediately signed on. But one of our members had a large number friends not in the EQ guild that wanted to join, so we made a new guild with a new name just for WoW. Within the first year, that guild died down and many of us who moved on to a more active guild.Flash forward to today. Some of the old EverQuest people are back, this time under the EverQuest guild name. It is a joy to play with them again, but now I find myself caught between three guilds: the first WoW guild, the current one and the returning EQ guild, . Thank Elune for custom chat channels that allow all of us to stay in touch.
I wonder how many of you are caught between guilds old and new? And what do you do about it? How do you handle the temptation to ditch your current guild and go back to party with your old friends who may be far behind you in content?

Just one, the server is too small to be "split" between guilds.

I juggle 3 guilds and it's really annoying. One is alliance pve where I play a 70 protadin and 70 holy disc priest, then horde pve where i have a 70 CoH priest and 70 affliction lock and finally a alliance PvP where I play a holy paladin.
I never wanted to raid more than 1 toon but guilds break up and no guilds need the class you play so you reroll on that server or play on a new one... eventually guilds get stuck in progress and you end up trying to bring back other toons as they may be needed now and it just ends up a big mess.

I'm starting to see a trend where people will have a character in a casual guild, and a second or third character in a raiding guild. I have no problems at all with this trend. People are doing what they want in the game, with the positive side effect of people having well equipped characters able to fill in when the casual guild wants to raid Karazhan, and having casual players be able to help out the raiders in Mag, Gruul, etc.
I wonder if we will ever be able to formalize alliances with other guilds, and maybe be able to talk to each other in seperate guild channels? Only time will tell...

I am one of those folks. Being a Healer gives me the opportunity to Raid more often than the rest of my Guildmates. I was in SSC last night, cleared 3/6 bosses. Meanwhile my Guild is only on the Bear Boss in ZA.

I'm currently in five guilds on three servers. I split my level 70s up because, when they were in the same guild, I tended to be pigeon holed into playing the one toon that was most needed for raiding. With them in two different guilds, I can play whomever I want, when I want, and raid with them both. Fortunately, both toons are in guilds with different groups of friends so I get to play with people I know.
I'm also a member of a level 29 twink guild with my twink toons. I play these guys when I feel like a little bloodshed without doing anything too serious.
I have another toon on a different server with entirely different group of friends. They don't play as much so he doesn't get the attention the others get but he's still a bit active.
Finally, a group of coworkers joined a guild on a PvP server so I was talked into rolling over there.
It's hard to balance, but everything is progressing nicely.

ZERO! I have RL friends who play, I don't need a guild.

All my toons are in one guild (except for the lost hunter on the PvP server that I play only when severely intoxicated), but I'm split between my former guild and my current guild. Long story.

I too came to WoW in 2004 with a former Everquest guild. Membership has changed dramatically since the beginning, and few of the original people are left... but I'm still there.
I also created a small (less than 10 actual players) guild just for friends and family members who play. It's a good place to just relax and play casually.

Two guilds, as of last night. Before then I was spread across three guilds, all Horde-side, all on one server. Why? My 3 main characters were in one guild (light raiding). My fourth character (a mage) is in my girlfriend's smaller, more casual guild, and the original intent was to only play this char alongside her. A good idea, but it didn't pan out... I ended up really enjoying the mage and leveled quickly to 70, but she remains in the other guild for now. My fifth character and third guild was just recently moved to my main guild... this char was an alt of my original warrior, pre-BC, and mostly unplayed. He ended up the guildmaster of a tiny guild of my auction house alts and such, and I also had a RP angle going on (yeah, RP server ;) ) with him. I was bit by the leveling bug again and started playing this char, but quickly realized going it alone in Azeroth and Outland isn't all that fun - I joined him to my main guild as a result.
I guess my reasoning was to take a break from my main guild and go "incognito" to avoid requests to tank or heal. Tank or heal? No, I want to play my ! ;) But separation also has its downsides, so I've been consolidating a bit.

I left a guild that I grew up in because I felt it was not going to meet the endgame expectations that I was gunning for. I still get "When are ya coming back" from them, I guess that counts as being split between friends.
It isn't very tempting, while my current guild is making leaps and bounds into SSC and TK, my old guild just about has Moroes on farm. I'm glad to be where I am.

I have the problem that I am in an active guild and keep getting asked to join another one that competes with the old one. Members of both guilds have been helpful getting my tank geared better and attuned for Kara

I'm in a raiding guild with my main and in another tiny guild with RL mates for levelling (go Mah Noob Winks :) - the main reason for the seperate guild is the guild bank, where we dump mats, pots etc. as we grow out of them for the next character coming up to use. Also, any gear we think may be useful for other ppls alts ends up there.

Im on Proudmoore and a member of "The Older Gamers". All of my toons are either in the main TOG guilds (Alliance and Horde) or in a subguild who are still TOG members. I have been playing since early 2005 and this is the only guild I have ever been in.

I'm in one and trust me, it's more than enough to occupy all my time and attention. :)

I'm currently split between 4 guilds and I hate it :-( I have lots of friends on the server but they're all spread out between several guilds. Since I'm always bouncing around I end up feeling very out of touch.
My 70 Mage is in a BT/Hyjal raiding guild comprised of many members of my pre-tbc guild. I don't raid very often but I enjoy being able to run 10 mans and heroics without the slightest worry of wiping.
My 70 Warrior is in a casual raiding guild with a few RL friends. I have a great time gearing up in Karazhan while joking around on vent with a very laid back crew.
Meanwhile my alt Hunter is in yet another casual guild comprised primarily of members of my pre-tbc guild who, like myself, got burnt out on hardcore raiding.
Finally, the rest of my characters are in a guild of less than 5 people. It's basically just a guild for the alts of my RL friends. We have a private channel already so the guild is really just a way to not get pestered with invites :-P

I joined a new guild when BC came out, and I had a great time, but eventually it fell apart. I ended up putting my characters in very casual friends and family guild, but now all of us have put one of our characters in a large raiding guild as well so that we can have the best of both worlds.

i'm actually caught between applying to the bigger more active guild that i end up grouping with all the time, that my boyfriend is in (run on yes i know) OR staying the gm of a guild created JUST for my RL friends... which is pretty inactive... ah loyalties...

I revolve around 3 guilds, we all have an alliance and cheery pic from each other for raids and instances. It works out quite well.

I'm only "between" two, but not really. A while back, I indicated that despite considerable effort on my part (I'm not being self-aggrandizing, here -- I did a lot to try to recruit), our original guild just wasn't working out due to people starting to have children, being stationed in Iraq, cross-country moves, and so on. Real life was affecting our tiny guild too much, so I reworked things so the remnants could get together once a week to do group quests and instances, and made it clear that everyone should feel free to find a guild over and above that.
I am now happily ensconced in a large guild full of nice people, and still maintain regular contact with the old group through the chat channel and once-a-week get-togethers, as well as a message board. It works out great -- best of both worlds. :)

My most fragmented was when I was in my "old" guild with one character to raid with them. Then 2 of my characters were in another guild to socialize with friends. Another character was in a third guild with one of those friends to help them out as they were just starting to raid. My 5th level 70 was in yet another guild just to kind of test the waters there.
Then I also had a few low level characters that were in a "leveling" guild, so that brought the count up to 5 on the Alliance side.
Most of my horde alts were in one "vanity" guild that was just there to give me a way to organize them, aside from one character that was in a heavy RP guild.
Total guilds at that time was 7.
My wife, who loves the social aspect more than I do, was in 8 or 9 at once at one point. :P
Now... I've left my "main" guild due to some new policies regarding raiding that I don't agree with, and my friends ended up joining another raiding guild. So, the guild I was in with them is now gone... The secondary raiding guild still has one of my characters as a member, and that last "just checking it out" guild I left. I also got rid of the "leveling" guild folks.
The RP guild died out, so now I'm down to two guilds. One of which is my "vanity" guild that I'm so pleased to say now has a guild bank. :) The other is my "raiding" guild, but I hardly ever see them any more because I'm too busy playing horde. :P
