You'll always remember your first
Togus is right-- there's something about your first character. Many of us, as I said yesterday, have tons of alts floating around, but your first character (while probably not your best-- I didn't understand First Aid when I started playing the game, so I just didn't train it at all) was a big deal. Finishing that starting area and realizing there was a whole World out there, grouping up for the first time, and learning just how all the spells worked and what everything looked like-- your first character may not be your main now, but odds are it's still sitting there on the server, like an old friend from years ago. This idea of a "first character" is actually especially interesting to me, as just yesterday my very first character dinged level 60. As I said on the podcast the other day, I'm going back to play the Night Elf Hunter (yeah, yeah-- I was young and impetuous, and I heard Hunter was a good solo class) I started playing the game with, and take it all the way to level 70, and then 80 when Wrath comes out. In some way, I see it as finishing what I started way back when. And after all this time playing something different in game (Horde, obviously, and classes besides Hunter-- Warrior, Shaman, Rogue, Priest), it's been extremely interesting to go back to the beginning. And seeing Outland (and eventually Northrend) through the eyes of the first character I've ever played promises to be a trip. I feel like I'm rediscovering this game I've played so much of already yet again.
What happened to the first character you ever started? You didn't delete them, did you? Were you able to get them all the way to 70? And when the next expansion comes out, will you take them further?

My first toon is still my main - NE druid, because a friend told me they could heal, and do magic, and transform into all sort of cool animal forms! which to my noob ears sounded pretty awesome. Now she's 70, T4 / epic geared, tanking her way through Karazhan & Gruul, and now I know druids are all kinds of awesome :) Never thought I'd get this far with WoW or this specific char, but she kinda stuck.

My first, a druid, is no longer my main, but was up until a few months ago and still gets a fairly considerable amount of play time. I tank with him when the guild needs and heal with my new main ( shaman ) the rest of the time.

my first was the stereotypical Night Elf Hunter and kitty pet that I guess %75.9 of the game population starts with. I got him to 60, had no idea about the raid game at the time... and didn't realize that everyone assumes an unguilded NE hunter + kitty means you're a gold farmer and not a real person. I couldn't find a guild I liked, I didn't like raiding with anyone I found to raid with and abandoned my dood to reroll as Horde on another server.
Unfortunately as much as I'd like to have an Alliance character on another server to mess around with in the event that my current server is queued (which is almost always seems to be)... someone or something hacked my account and deleted all my characters and Blizzard's pretty terrible policy is to only restore ONE character, and not all of your characters... so I lost all my Ally characters and horde characters and just got to restore my single reroll Warrior and that was it. Kinda crappy, but it's a win for blizzard since that was 4 alts I had to re-start from scratch and that means i'm going to play more in order to replace them or whatever and it's NEVER about making the customer happy after their junk's been violated, it's all still about the profit margin.

I deleted my first character a Hunter Dwarf because i switched servers and dont do any server hopping at all, however my 2nd and Main is very similar a Tauren Hunter with the same professions. Just that my first character stopped @ 20 something.

My first character is still my main after more than three years. And, despite the fact that I have several high level alts, I can't stop playing my first character--he's far too accomplished at this point. I will continue to play him until he's reachd the steps of Icecrown Citadel.

My first character was an undead rogue. At the time I had friends on two different servers so after getting the rogue above level 20 I rolled a Tauren druid on a different server so I could play with another friend as well. The rogue is still stuck at 26 and sits in org as a bank Alt. The druid is level 70 but the cow hasn't been out of the barn in a while. After the announcement of the druid bear nerf (2.01??) I decided to roll a blood elf mage in fear of druids getting painted into the "resto corner" again. The mage is now 70 with tailored epics and an epic flyer and currently my main. All toons (and friends) are now on one server.

I feel a bit shackled to my first. He's a dorf warrior, with 300 fishing, all the stv fish rewards, a murloc costume from this year's blizzcon, tons of blacksmithing recipes, exalted gnomercycle, and I just love the little guy.
I do feel that my irrational attachment to the character holds my guild back though. I can tank well as a warrior, but I could do the job of main tank better as a bear, and off-tank better as a paladin. And when I am not tanking, I am not adding a lot of value. If I didn't feel like I would somehow hurt his feelings by abandoning that little dwarf, things would be easier on my friends =x

My first character is my main today. So many memories leveling my troll priest... I went all the way to 44 in discipline before switching to shadow, and I started playing from day one of WoW. But I was young and ignorant, I had no idea what I was putting myself through at the time, just had a good time exploring. My first will always be my main.

Peppercorn on Gilneas was my first born of toons. A dwarf paladin, I created him because my friend/co-workers told me paladins were great 'jack-of-all-trade' type of character. Several alts later, including Hardplace on Gilneas, who was my first to reach level 70 (a night elf rogue - sub spec), I had run PC only to about level 55. I respec'ed him to Holy-Prot(5pts) after running through 55 with evenly balanced talent trees. Yesterday PC finally made it to level 70 - w00t!

My first was a tauren warrior, leveling as primarily Arms at launch. Switched to Prot come the 'end game' (which at that time consisted of things like Stratholme, Scholomance, and... OMG... MOLTEN CORE!). Built up a full Valor set, the best assortment of tanking blues from Strat/Scholo/Blackrock and later DM, and then finally broke into Molten Core. Main tanked there to earn a full Might set. Onyxia, Azuregos... oh, good times, good times. My only regret was stopping before BWL, but that was mainly due to my raid stopping progression, a guild that deflated, new guild with less raiders (ZG here I come)... and then rolling a hunter alt. ;)
My warrior is shelved, stuck at 69. My introduction to the Prot paladin has shown me another side of tanking, and between the hunter and a new mage alt I've been having fun doing DPS. A feral druid is coming up through the ranks for another shot at tanking. I might resurrect my old warrior for WotLK. Maybe.

My first was a dwarf hunter named Hallbjörn who, sadly, has since been wiped from existence. I got him to about level 35 and then made the jump to a PvP realm to join some friends. However, I've noticed it was not so much the character itself that I became partial to, more the starting area he cut his teeth in. Experiencing the game for the first time in scenic Dun Morogh made that area a little more significant and special than ones I progressed to. Nowadays, whether I start a new human , night elf or what have you I'll usually take them right to Dun Morogh for the first few levels just for nostalgias sake.

My 'first' first character was a warlock that I deleted when I got to level 20 because I found out I had friends on a different server. I created the same character on that server, so in a way he is still my first character and it is still my main. Raiding Karazhan and Gruul's, purply geared and excitedly close to epic flight.
Wren Jan 9th 2008 1:11PM
My first "alliance" toon is alive and well. She is still my main and a lvl 70 mage. She is the second toon I ever made and the character I most identify with. My first ever toon was a tauren druid. She has since been deleted but her spirit continues on in the form of a night elf druid with the same name.
MacKoroni Jan 9th 2008 1:09PM
My first character (NE Resto Druid) was rolled when the game released and is still my main, Elune bless her. Noob moments? Ah yea, like leveling her to 70 as a resto. Paaaaaaaaainful.

My first was a human warrior I started on my son's account about a week after the initial release. I played him as much as I could but at about lvl 30 I started my own account. I rolled a Nelf hunter (no appologies, Night Elf hunters are great!) and played him until Bliz came out with paid character transfers and I could get both toons on the same account. Both are 70 now and I love the two different play styles but I would have to say that my original warrior is still my main.
It's funny, I never really intended to start playing WoW, I just started that warrior to check the game out. Being an old Dungeons and Dragons player (paper and pencil version) I thought it was pretty cool. I remember running from Northshire Abbey to Goldshire for the first time. It was at night and I expected to get attacked at every tree and being relieved that I made it to the inn safely!
Milktub Jan 9th 2008 1:22PM
I count three "firsts".
First first was my the first toon I rolled on trial. Gnome (*blush*) Warlock. I gave him an evil name and a mean face. Around level 7 I got bored with him.
Second first was when I found out a couple RL friends played. They said they were Horde. So wanting to play with them, I rolled a Tauren Hunter on a PvP server. I couldn't figure out how to tame beasts, didn't know you could repair, so pretty much spent my time beating things up. Then decided to go "exploring" into Ashenvale at about level 15 ... still petless and gun-less. My corpse has been there for about a year and a half.
Third first is my "real" first. I finally figured out that to play with my friends, I needed to be both on their side as well as their realm. So I rolled my female troll rogue. Officially still my main, at least by guild ranking and raid scheduling. I'm good at playing a rogue, but sort of lost my love for the class late this summer. Every now and again, I think "should I delete???", but then I get encouragement to stay when I decide to play on her and join a group and someone says, "Wow! It's THE Milktub!" I don't know if it's fame or infamy, but it's cool.

My first character was a dwarf hunter. They get guns, you see... And I thought guns were better than bows.
After him, I think i made a Dwarf pally (because, well, all dwarves know how to use guns, right?) He was quickly deleted and replaced by my current Main, Littlegizmo, the Human Paladin in almost Full Epics.
Anyde Jan 9th 2008 1:48PM
My first was a NE druid who followed around my friend’s dwarf warrior because I had no idea what I was doing. I remember my main goal when I started was to find a boat so I could get to Ironforge. What a nightmare that was! At around level 30, I decided I wanted a pet so I re-rolled a Draenei hunter who is now level 70 and mostly my main. My poor druid got passed again when I rolled a Draenei priest who is now sitting at 51. I have since gone back to my druid and she’s finally at 65 (I can’t wait to fly at 68!) and finally going to make it to 70. She’s fun to play because I always remember the noob moments especially when I thought that at level 1 I could kill a level 4 with only my staff and at 16 when I decided I had to see Booty Bay. Ah, the joys of the good ol’ days.

Someone want to humor me and explain the joke about why nelf hunters are bad?
Xeren Jan 9th 2008 2:38PM
i don't know if it's so much that NE hunters themselves are bad, although i'm sure some would argue that because of the racials, but it's mostly because everyone and their mother has rolled NE hunter at one point or another, usually in their early days because they look cool, so, at any point in time, you have, i would say the class/race combination with the highest number of "noobs" would be the NE hunter.
I had one at one time too, and i had NO idea what i was doing, i feel bad for the people i grouped with!
