You'll always remember your first
Togus is right-- there's something about your first character. Many of us, as I said yesterday, have tons of alts floating around, but your first character (while probably not your best-- I didn't understand First Aid when I started playing the game, so I just didn't train it at all) was a big deal. Finishing that starting area and realizing there was a whole World out there, grouping up for the first time, and learning just how all the spells worked and what everything looked like-- your first character may not be your main now, but odds are it's still sitting there on the server, like an old friend from years ago. This idea of a "first character" is actually especially interesting to me, as just yesterday my very first character dinged level 60. As I said on the podcast the other day, I'm going back to play the Night Elf Hunter (yeah, yeah-- I was young and impetuous, and I heard Hunter was a good solo class) I started playing the game with, and take it all the way to level 70, and then 80 when Wrath comes out. In some way, I see it as finishing what I started way back when. And after all this time playing something different in game (Horde, obviously, and classes besides Hunter-- Warrior, Shaman, Rogue, Priest), it's been extremely interesting to go back to the beginning. And seeing Outland (and eventually Northrend) through the eyes of the first character I've ever played promises to be a trip. I feel like I'm rediscovering this game I've played so much of already yet again.
What happened to the first character you ever started? You didn't delete them, did you? Were you able to get them all the way to 70? And when the next expansion comes out, will you take them further?

there was a time when there were so many night elf hunters that they constituted a faction by themselves. You could have had roughly even populations if you had alliance, horde, and night-elf hunters.

My first character is still my main... I even carried name and class over from Beta.

My first is my first and so far only 70. I have 1 alt at 60 and others all at various points, but I still play my mage when I want to play with friends that don't understand my love of alts. But, He doesn't do too much, he's not really attuned for much. I still do have deep affection for that mage that still makes newby mistakes. He'll probably be my first 80 too

My first was a NE Druid, on my (adult) daughter's account. I could only play when she was NOT playing. Yes, that was illegal. Anyway, at level 43 I finally got tired of it, and got my own account, and started another NE druid. My daughter took over my first one, as she had not started a druid of her own.
They both still exist, and although my druid is no longer my main, she gets a lot of play time. She is 70, and the original on my daughter's account is 69.

My first character, Trichoderma, made 70 and I still play her with my guild. With the primary guide of giving them end-game support (she's a Forsaken Shadow Priest - adorable, dead, and loving every moment of it.) I still play her as a sort of connection-to-the-game because all of my alts in the guild have notes attached to them referring back to her anyway. I log in with an alt I get, "Hi Trich!"
When Wrath comes out my alts will wallow in their 40s and 50s while I take her all the way to 80. Likely with the insane desire to get myself a Death Knight.
Even as I play my warrior, warlock, rogue, and now a hunter ... I constantly have to carefully suppress my priestly instincts. That unwholesome edge-of-caution that creeps over me when I see my teammates taking damage tends to only slow down my murderous rage with teeth and daggers drawing blood for the enemy. I have to keep reminding myself that it's somebody else's job to heal them as I wade in.
Of course, it's given me a larger-than-usual soft spot for the priest in the party. I'm generally the first to break formation and jump in the way of aggro heading for our healer even when I'm not learning to be the MT. Mostly because I know the feeling of terror when standing, veiled only in a layer of cloth and paper-maché, staring down the throat of certain death with one finger on my shield and the other reaching for my fearbomb.

My first character is the one that I still play as my 'main' to do this day. He's an Orc hunter, loves long walks on the beach and enjoys putting arrows through the skulls of gnomes. Granak. Ah.. he'll always be mah favorite. ^_^

My very first character ever was a gnome rogue who was my main until BC came out. I didn't even have any alts for the first year that I played other than my bank. When BC came out I leveled the rogue and my druid simultaneously to 70, and the druid became my main. Still love the rogue though.

Dwarf hunter in beta, dwarf hunter on 7am release day, 3 years (later still playing the same dwarf hunter.
I think the Dwarf element is what kept me playing it moreso than the hunter.

My daughter played and let me roll a toon, "Gimlette", on her server two weeks after the game came out. As this game didn't work on my old computer and I had to use my daughter's, I got her as far as Thelsamar and abandoned her in the inn. I had problems with motion sickness so I didn't miss the play. Don't remember the server.
Two years later, I need something to do and she suggests checking out the game again. She picked the server and said I would far prefer PvE to the PvP server I had before. My response, "Um...okay?" I went back to the female dwarf hunter template but had to fix the name so I could have it again.
I have never had a NE toon and probably won't since a large number of my friends play NE's. I picked dwarf because of the pseudo-Scottish accent chosen for dwarves and that's my heritage.
Gimmlette is my first and still my main. I completely understand the concept of hurting her feelings. I still park her in an inn, if possible, so, when I'm working on my priest alt, I can imagine her kicking back and pounding ale, dancing on the table (Riverdance is NOT Scottish!) or just having a good time waiting for me to return to grind rep.

Funny you should write about it. A few days ago I wipe the dust of my very first WoW char. On release day I started playing a Tauren Druid, but soon thereafter I abandoned him to set foot on a different server with friends of mine. He only ever made it to lvl 32 and I, beeing a complete noob at the time, could get the hang of how druids "work" and how to play a hybrid class like that. Talentpoints were spreadout all over the trees making no sense at all, the gear was in no way resembling anything that made sense either.
But as of a few days ago I started to log back on my druid, respecced and bought him some fitting gear from the AH. He's a happy feral now and made it to lvl 35 this morning. I plan on taking him the whole nine yards to level 70 and he will then be my 4th level 70 char.
Everytime I log onto my druid I reminisc (sp?) about the past... good times. Strange feeling.

My technical first character doesn't exist anymore. I made an almost identical character on one realm (don't even remember which) because the day I got the game the realm my friends played on was full. The next day I deleted it and rerolled on the new realm.

My first is my main, will pretty much always be, I think, I'm rather attached to her. When my husband finally got me started playing in July 07, I decided that I wanted a toon I could really relate to, one that I could make as similar to me as I possibly could. I made a dwarf hunter, she's short and curvy like me, I gave her long red hair like mine, though I named her after my husband (the feminine form of his name). She's now 64 and I love her to death.

Ah my first toon was a Gnome Warlock in May 2005 that I started on Dalaran to play with a few friends. I also started an undead priest on Laughing Skull to play with some other friends but he never saw past lvl 5, but he still exisits.
I played my little lock for almost 2yrs ..I took him to 60, through MC, BWL, ZG, AQ20/40 and grinded a lot factions to exalted or revered. When Naxx came out I was burnt out and didn't feel like the grind of more resistance gear and I had commitments in my life that stopped me from playing for a while.
About 5months later my GF convinced me to return to the game and play an alt with her until BC came out, it was a gnome mage that we played till 30's. I had numerous other alts as well, 30's NE Rogue, 40's Human priest and my old main the 60 lock.
BC released and I went to horde to play with some old guildy's that had switched to horde and to play with my gf. I rolled a BE Paladin b/c the guild needed a pally and I got him to 70 in just 6weeks.
He's epic'd out now, epic flyer, started my own guild just this past november and I like him a lot. I have lots of new alts b/c I deleted all my old alli alts to make new horde one's on the same server with some of the same names used.
I have went back recently and level'd my first toon/main to 64 and I miss my gnome lock everyday, but for some reason I can't bring myself to go back to alli now. Maybe it's b/c I have so many friends on horde and my old guild that my lock is now back in, is no longer the same and has only 7 member's left from when I took him through so much of the game pre-bc.
If Blizz will ever implement a betrail quest that is a one time deal, my gnome lock will betray the alli in a heart beat and become an evil gnome with alliance to the horde. Come blizz, let me have my gnome back without playing alli !!

The first character I ever created was a Dwarf Hunter named Alchazar (couldn't think of a name for a while, and then, strangely enough, that episode of Futurama popped into my head 0.o). I got tired of only being able to use leather, so I deleted him at level 2 and rolled a Dwarf Warrior named Aubury. I consider Aubury my first character.
I leveled him to 25 and was absolutely terrible with him in PvP. Very well could have been that I bought about a quarter of the skills available from the trainer 'cause I thought the other 75% were useless. Still can't believe I couldn't understand how awesome Intimidating Shout is...
I'd love to go back and get Aubury to max level, but I'm absolutely in love with my new Paladin after having leveled a Hunter to 70. Poor little Aubury...been waiting for me for over a year =*(

Nixxen Jan 10th 2008 2:49AM
Aww. this makes panda sad :/
Makes me think of my own druid back in 2005.
Sadly that acount was banned in 2006, taking a heapload of my loved characters away.

I started playing in early 2005 with a little gnome mage named Nikolatesla. Nik is still my main, and is currently raiding Kara (am a very casual player). I have been through alot with this toon and could never think of abandoning him.

My first char was a human pally on a pve server. I almost stopped playing because of the low dps he did. I knew he could heal but I didnt know dps would suck that hard. I brought him to lvl 60 thanks to the great guild i am in.
I went to a raidguild for a couple of months were we cleared AQ40 including C'thun, did naxx. It was a great time but i liked the fun casual raiding more than 5/7 days hardcore raiding. Now we cleared kara and going on ZA.
Also got a 70 hunter and mage and a 69 warrior. But my first char i like the most
Theserene Jan 10th 2008 11:22AM
My first character was a troll warrior (tank specced). She is level 59 and after nearly 2 years of not doing anything with her, I've decided to get her up to level 60 :)

My first character from 2 years ago is still my main, and now a raider all in purplez. Oh, I flirted with many other toons, yes, but my wicked undead fireball-flinging mage was the first thing I frickin rolled and is still my favorite character to play.
