When TBC came out, DEing was like prinitng money with so many people levelling enchanting. I would spend 20 minutes buying mageweave and making masks and then sell stacks of vision dust...those were the days.
Now I feel like enchanting is basically an extremely expensive way to get +24 spell dmg on my rings. Also, bc of my profession I get a 1 in 5 chance of keeping a shard! Lets start having miners and herbalists /roll against the party at large for the proceeds from nodes in instances, right?

If you didn't DE it, you would only have a 1 in 5 chance of getting the BoP anyway...

I'm missing your point here. Because you can d/e something doesn't mean you deserve it more than any other party members.

Every instance I've ever been in, we roll for the nodes just like anything else.

Correct, the same as everybody else. This has nothing to do with it being a shard, if there's no enchanter in a group everybody rolls on the BoP item anyway, and has a 1 in 5 chance of getting it. Sorry to state the obvious, but since you missed it, the point is that the shard is worth more than the item, so why not give everybody the same chance at something that's worth more?
Again, you have the exact same chance to win as everybody else, so I fail to see what the issue is.

You don't have to d/e items for your group, just roll on the items and d/e anything you might win after the group has disbanded. If someone armories you and complains, just tell them to level enchanting.

Generally, in many instances, with all the BoP items being disenchanted, the end result is 4-5 shards in inventory. I don't even bother having people roll. I just ask who wants one, who passes. Then I hand them out. If everyone in the group wants a shard... then I have a 1 in 5 chance in getting a shard.

Usually I tell the group first hand that I will be Greeding all blues to DE, and that if someone wants to roll on said item to hit Need. I hate the time wasted standing around passing the item just to roll and/or decide afterwards what to do with the item.
