Generally, in many instances, with all the BoP items being disenchanted, the end result is 4-5 shards in inventory. I don't even bother having people roll. I just ask who wants one, who passes. Then I hand them out. If everyone in the group wants a shard... then I have a 1 in 5 chance in getting a shard.
