Mimicry in Engineering
The Khorium Toolbox never fails to provide top-notch engineering facts, lists and tricks. The latest project posted examines how the tools and gadgets that engineers can craft mimic the abilities of various classes. Put another way, it allows you to see how becoming an engineer could fill in gaps in your class by providing you with skills that your character could not have otherwise. No matter what class you envy, you could get your hands (or paws) on some of their tricks. Of course, as with most things in engineering, the opportunities for use may not be as plentiful as would be desired. In addition, many engineering gadgets have an embarrassingly high failure rate.
Engineering is also the favored profession of many battleground twinks. Some of the tools available have some interesting and effective uses in PvP in particular.
Have you been considering engineering as a profession, perhaps for a twink alt, or through funding from your level 70 character? Do you plan on using the abilities strategically, in battlegrounds, or to fill in gaps in your class, or are you mostly in it for the fun and shock value?

I've gotten more "WTF? Who cast Frost Nova, we don't even have a mage!" comments in instances where I tossed a Frost Grendade as emergency CC and saved a bad pull. I then get to explain that it was a Frost Grenade, couresty of their local engineer.
Frost Grenades. Engineers: Never leave home without them.

PS - It's also fun seeing the look on Alliance faces when a Warlock freezes them in place. They don't expect that. :)

I'm a mage, even, and I use frost grenades all the time.
It's a ranged nova in addition to the ones we already have on cooldowns. Frost mages get 1 frost nova, 1 elemental ranged nova (3 minute pet cooldown, 30 second nova cooldown), and mage engineers get frost grenades.
PvP-BG's
This can be a tasty arsenal for kiting, CCing, and yet another way to get increased burst damage (Shatter FTW). People waste their silences on it, and it's amazing for setting up combos. Yet, with the material cost, I only use them if I'm being ganked (for example, I completely turned the tide on a hunter by using this on him and frost nova on his pet) or if I'm in a premade, solo guarding a tower or something.
PvE
Believe it or not, these grenades have many PvE applications when you're AoEing as a mage. You can frost grenade and unleash blizzard on the murlocs in SSC, for example, or on the poison elementals in Hydross. Ranged Frost Nova > Being next to mobs you're AoEing.

There was a similar story a couple months ago about replicating Shaman abilities with other loot (much of it engineer-made). http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/11/19/shaman-awesomeness-duplicated-in-other-classes/
(Yes, this is just a roundabout way of promoting my own blog.)

Best thing is the world is when your group wipes and you use Feign Death at the last minute to be the last one alive. Then pull out the Jumper Cables and rez the healer. I've gotten more WTFs from that than anything else.

Best way to end a situation where the opposing faction is turtling at their own Gulch graveyard? MC the person off the hill with your helm.

I didn't think you could use engineering in BGs.

I don't think you can use engineering in arenas.

I use the rocket launcher for pulling because of the crazy range. It will probably be nerfed soon so i will use it for now. Its also good for those pesky mages who like to blink away.
