Why Limit yourself to just one. I have a Priest for Healing, Paladin for Tanking and a Hunter, Mage & Rogue for DPS.
Not only does it allow you to fill any role it also gives you a nice rounded view of the game.

hunter = tank + dps TYVM! :)

Heh, I have a priest for DPS (though I see myself as more of a healer for blue bars), a pally for tanking, and a druid for healing.

Just by statistics DPS is going to win, every single class in the game is capable of pretty good DPS, however only 4 classes can heal effectively (as much as I wish bandaging counted as healing...) and only 3 classes can tank (unless you've got yourself a Boomkin who thinks that watching their threat doesn't matter). So by pure statistics DPS is going to be ahead.

I disagree with the suggestion there are three roles. I truly think that there is four, dps is actually two, melee and ranged. Although the end goal is different their abilities is different. Ranged dps has the ability to lay down damage in a wide area, switching targets rapidly to things on opposite ends of the room, melee dps is fixed, and high and sustained. Their ends are similar but their roles, very different.
The way I've always seen it is the four "core" classes are warrior, priest, rogue, mage. These three classes fill those four roles and fill them very well without much extra. Not to leave my geekyness hanging out but The Fighter, cleric, rogue and wizard also happen to be the core D&D group, coincidence? I Think not.

I should note I play a mage and a feral druid I've filled these two separate roles and have a good friend who plays a mage and a rogue who concurs.

I actually liked the suggestion made a while back that there are three roles - but "tank" isn't one of them: healing, damage, and crowd control. Since that's essentially what a tank is - large-scale CC.

Its still only 3 classes...boomkin are druids too

I actualy think there is another class: Support
i'm a shadow priest, my DPS isn't as high as mages/warlocks/rogue's but i return valuable mana
i see that as my nr 1 role in the raid
dAnixx Jan 13th 2008 9:52AM
Im a druid. Why cant i choose the 3 options?

Stop spamming your damn site.
Xeren Jan 14th 2008 1:42AM
i'm quite curious about what the site is, but i will never go there, ever, out of pure annoyance from how much i've seen it spammed here

Figures tanking is last on this list... No wonder you can't find one when you need one, and when you do, guess what...HE SUX...
Stapes Jan 13th 2008 10:09AM
Right now I'm playing a Feral Druid Tank but I was a Holy Paladin for years.
Heraclea Jan 13th 2008 10:16AM
My main's a warrior. A lot of people think I should be tanking. But unless Blizzard equips us so that having a warrior tank all of those trash pulls is as fun and as relaxing as having a paladin tank them, while letting us farm and solo effectively, I ain't gonna. DPS for me.
Juliah Jan 13th 2008 11:00AM
I have one of each. My healer was formerly my main, but Blizzard can blame itself and its quest design in Hellfire for changing that. I got so frustrated when my priest went to the Outland that I tried my second-highest character at that time, my level 44 mage, and I've never looked back.
Chris Anthony Jan 13th 2008 12:11PM
Really? I've actually found the quests in Outland /more/ conducive to leveling as a disc/holy priest. What about them bothered you as a healer?
(The creature density, on the other hand, could use some looking at... but I digress.)
Necromancer Jan 13th 2008 11:01AM
Too many DPS spoiled the broth
Siggy Jan 13th 2008 11:17AM
I tried Holy, but then my keyboard broke from spamming Flash too much.
Now I'm a happy Retadin.
Tuberon Jan 13th 2008 11:17AM
Tank and Spank, baby.
