As the tankadin said, if you can't handle looting during combat then you can't multi-task. If you can't do that, you're not really going to go beyond 5 man instances.

I always combat loot (unless it's on a boss encounter), and I see no reason not to since I can do my job at the same time and speed up the run. However I might give it a second thought if everyone else in the group stops what they're doing for 5 seconds and starts typing in party chat whether or not they can need it.
