Addon Spotlight: QuestHelper
We love quests, but they can be excessively frustrating sometimes. Usually they annoy you most when they make you wander all over, back and forth, without seeming to accomplish things efficiently. The fastest levelers will tell you to try to "stack quests," or do all the quests in a small area first, then gradually move around the map to other areas. But often the best way to do this isn't clear -- you may not even know exactly which area a quest is asking you to go to.Addons to the rescue! First, there was LightHeaded: an in-game database of comments from Wowhead.com that could help you when you get confused. Now, there's QuestHelper: an in-game guide which can tell you which direction to go, what to do, and what order to do everything in, all before you even get confused in the first place. QuestHelper isn't always right -- you still have to use your own brain, for sure -- but using this addon you'll be much less likely to make silly mistakes in your questing that slow you down and waste your time.
The first and most important feature of QuestHelper is the ant-trail it draws for you on your world map. Something like a distant cousin of Cartographer Routes, it will judge where you are in the world, what your current questing goals are, and then determine the shortest path around to get all your objectives accomplished and rewards obtained. The little ant-like dots will move from icon to icon on your world map, representing items you must get, or monsters you must kill, as well as where the quests can be turned in once you finish. It knows a bit about which areas of the map are impassible, and it will usually point you to waypoints you need to follow to get around obstacles. If you are questing together with other players using QuestHelper, the addon will take into account everyone's quests and find the shortest path to get all of them finished together.
If you have Cartographer installed, QuestHelper will even use that addon's "waypoint" features to show you a spiffy 3D arrow so that you can get a clearer bearing on which direction you should be moving in; the arrow even changes color depending on how close you are to your objective, and it will tell you about how long getting there should take. Even if you don't use Cartographer, though, there's a little pulsing arrow on your minimap which can help guide you as well.
As I mentioned before, QuestHelper isn't going to level your character up for you. It knows a lot about quests, but it doesn't know everything. It won't help you pick up quests to begin with, for instance, only guide you to complete them once they're in your log. As I tested it out for myself, there were times when I knew better than the addon and did my own thing rather than follow the little ants on my map (but then again, there were other times when "my own thing" actually ended up being more trouble than I had realized). QuestHelper is also still in beta, so although it works pretty well out of the box, its command-based user interface may take some getting used to if you want to play with the settings.
Overall, however, I found QuestHelper to be a definite addition to any good list of recommended addons -- even more useful than LightHeaded if one had to choose between the two. Still, even with QuestHelper pointing the way, LightHeaded can come in handy when the actual task you must complete in the quest requires a bit of strategy or finesse, since advice from other players rarely goes amiss. You can download QuestHelper at Curse.com, and keep an eye on it there for future updates.

I suppose it's only compatible with the english client ?

Correct.

It sucks, trust me. I've used it for a while, but after a week or so I went back to LightHeaded + TomTom. Half of the quests don't even work with QuestHelper, or just send you in the wrong direction.
I find it much easier to use DoubleWide, LightHeaded and TomTom. You just scroll through the comments that LightHeaded provides, and if there's any coords in them you click them and they appear as a green dot on your map! Do that on all quests in your area and you've got a much more reliable view on where you have to go next!

I have lightheaded and TomTom as well - my problem was A) having to sift through the comments to find a correctly formatted coord (oftentimes people will type 56.45 instead of 56,45, and it won't recognize it). B) I have to manually go in and click all of them, and cartographer adds the waypoints in the order that I click them, not in the order that makes it a nice circle - I had to move waypoints to the end of the queue after every quest I complete. C) There seems to be about an equal amount of lightheaded quests that have no coords, as questhelper has no info about the quest. And D) Questhelper is just overall a lot easier to use - I don't have to actually DO anything to have it start mapping my quests.

One of the biggest problems with QuestHelper is that it's a machine, it doesn't think like a human person does!
If you would have a quest in the west of Mulgore and one in the east of Desolace (highly unlikely, but just an example) it will just draw a line between those two, not knowing it takes ages to get there!

i dont understand how you can say that it sucks... this is the best thing since the zipper.... it took me about 2 weeks to get to 20 on my main... it took me 2 days with questhelper. that should speak for itself. just cuz it has 1 or 2 qwerks doesnt make it suck.. i mean it doesnt work with timed quests. but ohh well its great for everything else. not everything is 100% excellent this is damn close though props to the creater

I agree that it does not work with every quest, but if you have the memory to spare, I run this with nQuestlog + Lightheaded + TomTom. This combination = leveling on easy mode. It is tremendously nice for leveling mains or even alts (when you haven't done the quests in awhile).
I would also recommend getting Cartographer if you don't have it which kind of completes the combo of adds listed above. Happy Questing!

I've been running TomTom and LightHeaded myself.. maybe I will try this nQuest... as far as QuestHelper is concerned, this looks to be the same as a light headed + tom tom combination. Maybe i will experiment with it

It doesn't have EVERY quest for sure, but it has at least 90% of them and it really helps me out.
I was so frustrated with the game before I got this, and now I couldn't see leveling without it.

I used this for about a month. Great addon, but has serious issues with other quest addons like beql and monkeyquest. I was unable to read any other quest other than the first quest in my log on both mods, even after numerous updates.
Great mod, just doesn't work for me.
Mushoo Jan 28th 2008 7:32PM
I'm relatively sure that, somewhere deep in the info for questhelper, it mentions that if you have addons that add level information to a quest name, questhelper won't work. IE: "[15] Precious and Fragile Things"... won't get recognized by the addon, as it's looking for JUST "Precious and Fragile Things"
bsm0f0 Jan 29th 2008 8:12AM
Perhaps Mushoo, but that wasn't my problem. It worked as far as mapping out things etc. My problems were 1) I couldn't read any quest other than the first one in my quest log, if I clicked on another, it auto reselected the first 2) some funky issue where Cartographer would close after opening, would take several tries before it would stay open and I could see where the hell i needed to go, 3) some random bindings and other mod issues ... enough to make me pull my hair out.
I'm going to give Lightheaded + TomTom a try to see how that works out. Don't get me wrong, I liked Questhelper, just too many issues with my required mods to have to deal with all that crap trying to make lowbie questing ezmode.

Well the thing about lightheaded I like the most, is that people will put coords on there for you, but the main seller is that people are actually posting strats on the quest.
Lets face it, every quest isn't... Go kill X amount of creatures and come back. Some quest require a group of 3, but after reading comments, someone has found a way to get it done solo.
Does this mod show comments people have made about quest?
Electrocuted Jan 28th 2008 3:16PM
It usually actually suggests that you don't do it. However, if you group, and other people have the quest, or they're running it, it'll share info on what group quests you all have and the quickest way to do them all, who you should help, and where you should wait for them to turn them in.

I love this add-on!! I leveled 64-70 with it. I loved it.
it does have some cons. like not all quests, and sometimes it doesn't seem to load right away. Sometimes it wants me to go the long way.
but i am most happy that I don't have to do anything with cords. I don't have to remember 54,60 or find out that i marked it down as 60,54, ect. its just shows up as a dot on my map.
the other add-ons people have suggested sound good, but removing all cord. responsibility but still showing me how to complete my quests....thanks questhelper!

Lightheaded is more than enough for me, and I've only used it for the last ten levels or so. Helpful, but a bit like Invisiclues, generally only gives me what I want. I don't want spoonfeeding; it's starting to feel like there's an addon out there that installs a small, caffeinated child to play the game for me and I can come back to see if I got any phat loots.
Kyane Jan 28th 2008 2:57PM
A very similar addon that I use on my alts: Tour Guide. I highly recommend it for leveling. Just follow the directions and go.
Eleazar Jan 28th 2008 3:23PM
Seriously! TourGuide + nQuestLog + Waypoints + Lightheaded = MADE OF WIN.
I've used this combo to level up my current shaman, and its glorious.
bsides Jan 28th 2008 2:59PM
nQuestlog + Lightheaded + Cartographer (pack) is good enough for me. Still, I want to try this out since too many people is talking about it :P
Just a note:
"Current Version: This project is no longer in development"
Is it right?
