Wing Clip as weapon leveler
Mania posted about a tip from Lienna about spamming Wing Clip to powerlevel weapon skill, and I've confirmed that yes, as long as you wait for the global cooldown (obviously), you an spam Wing Clip and you'll receive weapon skill ups for those hits. Though I didn't try it with any abilities, I'd assume that it works for any instant melee hit (Sunder Armor jumps to mind). Of course, you not only have to worry about hitting whatever it is you choose to hit, but you also have to worry about killing it-- I did have to step back and finish off the mob with my hunter's bow.So it seems hunters can level their weapon skills a little faster than other classes. And why shouldn't they? They have a lot more weapons to skill up, and it's not like melee weapon skill matters much to hunters anyway, except at the very limits of min-maxing. A melee hit is a melee hit-- if hunters get to hit more often, then they get to level weapon skill faster, too.

Warriors can do that too with Hamstring and Rend if I remember right.

What about paladins with Seal of the Crusader :)
+ 40% weaponspeed ftw!

As a warrior, I am amused at this foolish "Hunters have more weapons to skill up" nonsense.
Oldbear Jan 28th 2008 4:07PM
Every weapon that drops is a hunter weapon, just ask one of them.

seal of the crusader most definitely helps. but here's a tip if you REALLY wanna blaze through weapon skillups on a warrior or rogue:
stash some int gear away.
on my warrior, i just kept some quest greens i would have other wise vendored and kept a few int scrolls, got my warr a around 300 INT and went to the servant area in blasted lands -- the difference in getting to 350 with and without was pretty significant.
Michael Jan 28th 2008 3:11PM
They patched that out a while ago; int does nothing at all for warriors and rogues.
marnok Jan 29th 2008 10:56AM
this still works for warriors. I was using int just yesterday on my warrior.

It's very useful for those 'perfectionists' who have to have the max skill for a weapon... not that hunters should ever melee, but it does help especially on those slow swingin' polearms!
Zakk Jan 28th 2008 7:15PM
"not that hunters should ever melee"
Yeah, but it's very easy to get sucked into melee range sometimes (from a Warrior's Intercept, for instance), and when you do, it kinda sucks when you have 100/350 with your melee weapon and can't land a single Wing Clip on the guy to get away.
And yeah, found this out after the incredible frustration of leveling my 2h axes skill. Lucky for me I learned the trick then and not half way through leveling my polearms skill which I didn't learn until my mid 60s (didn't get any good polearms until Survivalist's Pike).

Weapon skill is maxed in PVP.

Head to the Blasted Lands and look for mobs near the dark portal with the name 'Servants of _____" (there are 4 different types I think). You can hit them all day long and they won't die, you need a certain quest to be able to kill them so they'll be at 1% health until you get tired and run away. This is the best way I know to gain weapon skill ups.
Essess Jan 28th 2008 2:56PM
Sunder armor is not a weapon contact - although it does start the auto-sequence. There are macros that allow to apply sunders with a mouse over on trapped and CC'd mobs without breaking them because it is a non-damaging debuff that does not use weapon contact. Spamming it will not increase weapn skills any faster. Warriors should use hamstring to level up (particular 3+ sec two handers)
PeeWee Jan 28th 2008 6:30PM
Sunder Armor does indeed increase your weapon skill. It requires a melee weapon to be used at all. Whether or not it does damage doesn't matter.
As for my own weapon skill powerlevelling, I get the lowest-dmg version of the type I can find in SW, and go berserk in the Stockades.

welcome to 3 years ago?
and it doesn't have to hit. weapon skill-ups can occur from any outcome of an attack, not just successful ones.
darian Jan 28th 2008 2:58PM
I thought this was common knowledge. o.O
wowinsider Jan 28th 2008 3:03PM
Another easy way is if you have a warlock friend (or are a warlock who wants your weapon skill maxed) -- you can skill up by melee-ing banished demons.

on a similar note, spamming rank one serpent sting is a great way to lvl ranged weapons.
George Jan 28th 2008 3:31PM
Any hunter worth his salt won't level ranged that way.
Dr. Boom ftw.
p3ngu11 Jan 29th 2008 8:55AM
circle kite with a few stacks of the level 5 ammo and all you need it time. or afk it up on dr. boom
